Clinging to Devoted Fiancé, Heiress Slays the World!-Chapter 587: The Top Agent Will Lose Their Temper
Supporting Xia Duoduo to the rest area to sit down, An An anxiously said, "Sister Xia, I’ll go find some ice for you to apply, see if it can reduce the swelling."
After An An left, Ji Wei sat down beside Xia Duoduo. "Duoduo, be honest with me. Have you been through a lot here?"
She had just arrived and saw that slap; what about before?
Xia Duoduo had never mentioned a word of it to her.
"Not at all. That was just for the sake of the plot. Actors, you know, if they don’t seem realistic enough, people will accuse them of faking it."
Xia Duoduo chuckled as if it were no big deal, then smoothly changed the topic, gently placing her hand on Ji Wei’s lower abdomen. "Has my godson been behaving himself lately? Has he been giving you any trouble?"
"I think he takes after Mo Qian, all aloof and cool; he rarely acts up." Ji Wei replied.
"Maybe he’ll turn out to be another domineering CEO." Xia Duoduo teased.
"Duoduo, I brought you lots of Rongcheng snacks. Want to try some now?" Ji Wei motioned for Mary behind her to take the items out.
"Yes, please."
Xia Duoduo nodded eagerly.
She munched on a chili-powder-coated fried potato, exclaiming "So delicious!" while her gaze drifted toward the director’s rest area not far away. There, Ye Cheng stood with his back to them, conversing with the director.
"What does Director Zhu think about actors improvising without approval?" Ye Cheng, dressed in a navy-blue suit, one hand in his pocket, exuded an air of cold self-restraint.
He looked at the bearded middle-aged director before him, his phoenix eyes slightly narrowed, betraying no emotion.
Director Zhu, assuming he was concerned about the earlier incident where Xia Duoduo got slapped, quickly forced a smile. "Mr. Ye, the script is dead, but actors are alive. Improvisation is inevitable. Besides, I’ve always encouraged my actors to express themselves; it makes the show more engaging and boosts ratings."
Having just returned gloriously from Venice, where the two artists under his wing both won major awards, Ye Cheng stood as a revered figure in the entertainment world. Director Zhu couldn’t afford to disregard him.
"Director Zhu is absolutely right! Anyone who only acts according to the script clearly lacks imagination! Doesn’t Agent Ye agree that my slap earlier was brilliant? It drove the scene to its climax."
Lin Qian, reclining lazily in her chair while being massaged by her assistant, interjected casually.
"So what Director Zhu means is, as long as the plot makes sense, he doesn’t mind actors improvising without approval—correct?" Ye Cheng, completely ignoring Lin Qian, sought direct confirmation from Director Zhu.
"Yes, that’s right." Director Zhu nodded blankly, not quite understanding.
"Got it."
Ye Cheng uttered those words and turned to leave.
Lin Qian and Director Zhu exchanged glances, both baffled by Ye Cheng’s actions.
They had assumed this top-notch agent would blow up and fight for his artist’s rights. Unexpectedly, he only asked some trivial, harmless questions.
When Xia Duoduo saw Ye Cheng walking over, she hurriedly wiped the soup from the corner of her mouth, sat up straight, and greeted him, "Y-you’re here."
"Mm." Ye Cheng’s gaze lingered on her swollen cheek for a few seconds before he responded plainly.
Soon, An An returned with the ice pack and began applying it to Xia Duoduo’s face.
Ye Cheng, beside them, flipped through her script. Noticing the colorful annotations and notes she had made, his eyes lit up with a subtle hint of approval.
"Which scene are you filming next?" Ye Cheng suddenly looked up and asked.
Xia Duoduo froze for a moment before answering, "Scene 15, 2-2."
Ye Cheng turned to that page and began studying it intently.
Xia Duoduo wasn’t sure what he was planning, and she felt too shy to ask. Instead, she continued chatting with Ji Wei. By the time the director called for filming, the swelling on her face had subsided considerably.
"Little Wei, wait for me a bit. After this scene, we’re done for the day."
"Do your best; I’ll wait for you." Ji Wei smiled and nodded.
As Xia Duoduo was about to head off, Ye Cheng suddenly stood up. "Wait a moment."
Xia Duoduo looked at him in confusion.
Ye Cheng walked over and pointed to a specific spot in the script, whispering a few words to her.
Xia Duoduo’s eyes widened, stunned.
"Go on."
Ye Cheng gave her a deep look before returning to his seat.
