Classless Awakening; My Dragon Is Legendary-Chapter 43: Price Of A Fallen Pillar
Hours passed, every minute tension drew closer. Every second held the power of life and death.
One of the strongest figures in the entire continent had fallen, and with him, the hope of the Kingdom.
The king had ensured the matter was kept on a need-to-know basis, to avoid the spread of panic.
The king was struggling to keep himself together, watching the man he had grown up with and fought beside him, lay weakly in a chamber many didn’t walk out of.
The king had ordered some of the best healers in the entire world, and they were currently handling this matter.
He didn’t care if the entire kingdom would have to go bankrupt for the Royal Knight to live. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Other knights who knew about this matter were restless. Whatever took out the mighty Royal Knight could easily destroy them.
And it wasn’t just that, the king’s court had gone into overdrive, rapidly briefing the knights and the king himself.
Whoever had done this to Royal Knight wouldn’t just stop with him, they needed to launch a counterattack before anything.
Despite all this, no one was as heartbroken as Derrick.
His senses were advanced enough to understand what was happening, Royal Knight wasn’t getting better.
He wasn’t breathing, his heart wasn’t beating, at least not on its own.
The magical artifact he had been placed in, was sending air into his lungs and pumping his heart, acting as a magical life support.
Derrick couldn’t cry anymore, he just stared at Royal Knight’s body, unable to think about anything else.
Suddenly, his duel against Ivan and the Nullspire sword didn’t matter anymore.
His heart was heavy, and all he wanted was for Royal Knight to stand once more.
Royal Knight in question had long black veins running through his body.
It started from his neck and was quickly spreading to his chest and other parts of his body.
A healer stepped forward, his facial expression was almost unreadable, but the sadness in his eyes was a dead giveaway.
"Your Majesty." The healer bowed in respect and obligation.
"Skip the formalities, give me the raw truth." The king said, he had been around enough healers to know how they operated.
"To be honest sir, it’s not looking good." The healer started.
"We have stopped the spread of the infection, but that is as far as we can go. We can only study this infection for some time, and then come up with a cure," the healer said truthfully.
"How long would that take?" Derrick asked. He needed Royal Knight up and running as fast as possible.
"We can’t say, anywhere from days to years." There was nothing that could be done at this point.
Derrick bowed his head, a shadow of pain and despair cast over him.
"Don’t worry, we’ll do our best." Sir Thompson’s voice cut through the tension.
Derrick looked up at him with hope in his eyes. He trusted Sir Thompson.
He had lost one teacher, but another was still there for him.
"Fear not, I already have some men working on who did this to him and how it was done." Sir Thompson’s words brought security to the hearts of everyone around him.
They knew just how reliable Sir Thompson was, and how many times he had helped them in tight spots.
Sir Thompson was responsible for the fall of two powerful kingdoms who had tried to attack Dravania.
"Until Royal Knight recovers, I’ll be handling your protection and teachings," Sir Thompson said to Derrick.
"Thank you, Thompson." The king was genuinely filled with gratitude.
Protecting the prince was beneath Sir Thompson, and taking up this job had just alleviated another one of the king’s worries.
Sir Thompson turned his head to the left, and his face went through several expressions before settling on excited.
"Three suspects have been apprehended and are on their way here," Sir Thompson reported.
Instantly, the king’s fire had returned, they finally had a lead.
"Thank you, Thompson, you have outdone yourself once more." The king’s voice was once again strong.
"Gather every disposable knight, we have suspects to question." The king ordered, and instantly the men and women in the room began to scramble.
In a matter of minutes, thousands of knights had gathered inside the king’s war room.
"Thompson, I’m going to have to ask you to help Derrick focus on his duel while we deal with this." The king ordered.
Sir Thompson nodded, he knew fully well what was about to happen.
The punishment the king planned to wreak upon the suspect. He didn’t want Derrick to see that side of him.
Derrick and Sir Thompson walked outside the infirmary, which was almost completely devoid, besides a few knights guarding the entrance.
"Where is your carriage?" Derrick asked. He knew Sir Thompson never went anywhere without his personal escort.
"I ordered some of my people to dig out everyone involved in the attack against Royal Knight," Sir Thompson explained.
"I’m starting to believe you sent all of your knights on this mission," Derrick joked, but Sir Thompson didn’t share in his humor.
"Yes, I did." Sir Thompson said, his tone completely devoid of amusement.
Derrick’s eyes widened in shock, he knew how much Sir Thompson cherished his luxuries, and here he was, throwing everything away for one man.
"What is the point of all my riches and wealth if I can’t at least bring those who killed my comrade to justice?" Sir Thompson asked.
"Comrade? Are you telling me you fought alongside Royal Knight?" Derrick asked, shocked.
"Oh yes, I went through the same training as Royal Knight, you wouldn’t believe how lazy he used to be. " Sir Thompson laughed.
Derrick remained puzzled, he never thought he’d ever hear the adjective lazy being used to describe Royal Knight.
"Eventually, he became the best of us all, not only surpassing your father, but even the teacher." Sir Thompson reminisced.
"The five of us were as thick as thieves...." Sir Thompson laughed.
"Five?" Derrick asked. He had just assumed it was only three of them.
" That is a story for another day." Sir Thompson didn’t want to dig up old memories.
"We have a duel to prepare for."
