Classless Awakening; My Dragon Is Legendary-Chapter 38: A Knight’s mystery
The creature’s body slowly broke apart, turning completely into dust.
Now that the corpse was no longer being animated by dark magic, there was nothing to hold it together.
Royal Knight fell to his knees, taking deep breaths.
The toll of the barrier and constant fighting was weighing on him, he was beyond exhausted at this point.
"gods give me strength." Royal Knight pushed himself to his feet, ready to continue.
He was a knight of Dravania, failing this mission, would mean bringing shame to his great kingdom.
He glanced towards his left and there it was, a grand house, completely untouched by the surrounding destruction.
He knew that whatever it was that caused this, was most certainly living inside that house.
Royal Knight looked into his core, the only thing left was just a faint glow of Varyn.
Royal Knight pulled a desperate move, he took the last bit of Varyn within him, and wrapped it around his head and heart.
Royal Knight walked towards the house, and as soon as he got to the entrance, the door flung open, and an eerie feeling came upon him.
Everything in Royal Knight was warning him against going into this place, but he was unrelenting.
As soon as he stepped into the grand house, the huge double doors shut behind him, trapping him inside.
Just before he could react, two massive spears blocked his path, preventing him from going forward.
The dark hall was instantly illuminated with purple flames, allowing Royal Knight to see the giants standing before him.
Upon closer inspection, he wouldn’t exactly call them giants, abomination was a more suitable word.
They looked like a mess, giant deformed humans, with uneven proportions, both clad in full knightly armor.
"We are the knights guarding this palace, state your name and purpose." One of the two giant knights demanded, its voice sounded strange, like fifty people spoke at once.
"I’m a knight of Dravania, and I’d like to see your ruler." Royal Knight said calmly.
"We asked for your name." The second knight spoke, shifting its spear closer to Royal Knight.
The last thing Royal Knight wanted right now was a fight, but he knew he couldn’t reveal his name.
Royal Knight looked around, trying to find if there was any way he could escape or run.
However, while trying to find milk, he found cream.
A single black crystal in the middle of both knights.
Upon further inspection, he could see a small, thread-like material that linked the crystal to both knights.
It looked just like the pebbles from earlier, but much, much bigger.
"We asked you a question!" The knights said in unison.
Royal Knight didn’t say anything, he simply threw his sword at the crystal, shattering it into a million pieces.
He pulled a piece of string attached to the hilt of his sword, drawing it back into his arm.
The knights crumbled before him into nothing but dust, revealing a wide barely illuminated hall.
Royal Knight walked through, and he was met with a blood curdling sight.
Bodies, bodies of the villagers he had failed to save, they were grotesquely woven into the walls, and their limbs were sticking out in every direction.
"By the gods..." Royal Knight couldn’t believe his eyes, such evil was new to him.
"Save us, save us..." The villagers screamed, their voices uneven and distorted.
Royal Knight just stood there for a second, completely frozen, unable to process what was happening right before his eyes.
He regretted not having enough mana, he would have burned them all, allowing them to finally rest.
He finally summoned the courage to continue his journey, he had failed to save these villagers, but if he was fast, he would save many more.
Each hall lead to another, having only a single turn, taking away any type of choice from Royal Knight.
’It seems someone wants to meet me?’ Royal Knight asked himself, that was the only possible explanation.
Someone somewhere, most likely the person in control of all this, was manipulating this palace, making sure Royal Knight only had one way to go, which would lead right to them.
Royal Knight checked his reserves, nothing.
His mana and Varyn had even stopped replenishing ,he was completely on his own here.
If he decided to push forward, the person waiting on the other end, would be way more powerful than any other dangers he had faced ever since he stepped foot in here.
And facing such a danger without any of his powers was a death sentence.
Even with his powers, judging by the amount of dark energy he could feel inside this place, it would be a difficult battle.
The thought of turning back crossed his mind multiple times, but even the doors were closed.
He continued for a few minutes, each turn even stranger than the last.
Some of the disfigured humans had even managed to grab him, and their screams prevented him from being able to focus or think clearly.
Eventually, he arrived before grand double doors, where two more giant knights stood.
He instinctively looked around, but there was nothing, no crystal or thread, his only way out of this one would be to fight.
He drew his blade, and pointed it at one of the knights, he was about to charge, when they spoke in unison.
"Rest your blade, we do not wish to battle." The knights spoke in unison once again, their voice sounded just like their earlier counterparts.
"If we wanted you dead, you would have died as soon as you entered into the palace."
"If you kill me, bear in mind that the full force of the kingdom of Dravania and its allies would destroy this place." Royal Knight believed fully in his kingdom.
Killing a Dravania knight, official or even a citizen was an immediate declaration of war, and no sane kingdom wanted war with Dravania.
The double doors flung open, and the knights motioned for Royal Knight to go in.
"Our queen will see you now."
Royal Knight took in a deep breath, calming his mind and trying to steady himself, but deep down a realization had dawned on him.
The moment he stepped foot in the barrier, he had been slowly building up to his death.
And entering into this palace was the final nail in his coffin, he would never leave here alive.
