Classless Awakening; My Dragon Is Legendary-Chapter 27: What Have You Done?(P)
Derrick’s reality splintered before his eyes, his consciousness fragmenting like a mirror struck by a hammer, each shard reflecting a distorted glimpse of what once was whole.
At first, he remained calm, thinking it was just as a result of his emotions.
Like the way his vision turned red when he was angry and black and white when he was very calm.
He had a lingering feeling that this didn’t come from him, but at the same time, he wasn’t sure.
The cracks continued to expand, all around him, till it looked like his world was made of shattered glass.
And then it quickly became clear to Derrick that this was not of his own doing.
[Derrick, close your eyes and keep going.]
’Are you sure?’ Derrick asked, continuing on this path didn’t seem like the wisest of options.
[Yes I’m sure Derrick, just keep going.]
The system could see through the illusion now that Derrick had discovered the trick behind it.
Derrick did as the system instructed, he closed his eyes, and focused on his hearing and smell, using his alternative senses to navigate.
With each step Derrick took, he could feel a slight resistance, pushing him back.
Whatever this strange resistance was, it was one he couldn’t decipher.
It felt as if reality itself was warping all around him, trying to keep him from being able to continue.
[Just trust me and keep going Derrick.]
Derrick cleared his mind, the system had saved him multiple times before, why would it fail him now?
Derrick took three steps forward when he sensed it, goosebumps appeared all around his body, a feature of his danger sense skill.
His body froze. He was sensing the danger from all around him, like he was about to be attacked from all directions.
[LEFT!]
The system screamed, and Derrick tried to heed its warning, but he was too late.
A ball made of dark purple energy struck his chest, sending him into the cave.
The whole thing happened so fast, Derrick couldn’t even process what had happened or how it did.
One second he was being pushed back by an invisible force. The next he was sent flying into the cave.
Derrick opened his eyes, and the first thing he met with was a dark cave, barely illuminated by purple glowing runes.
’Where is this?’ Derrick asked the system. He had never seen or read anything that even remotely resembled this.
[I don’t know, but I can clearly sense high volumes of dark magic.]
’Dark magic?’ Derrick asked. He was familiar with the word, but wanted to confirm.
[Yes Derrick, the same type of magic as the dark emperor and his followers.] 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
The system’s words confirmed what Derrick already suspected.
"So you’re saying this whole thing was a trap set by the dark emperor?" Derrick asked, fear enveloping him.
[Yes.]
"Why?" Derrick couldn’t lie to himself, he was more scared of the dark emperor than anything.
His so-called arch nemesis, who was hundreds of years old, and already more powerful than him.
Reality began to set in Derrick’s mind; the dark emperor wasn’t going to wait for him to get stronger or train, he had already started his attack.
"I didn’t expect this." Derrick sighed exhaustedly.
He activated his dragon eyes, but even then he struggled to see.
He looked around him, trying to find the cave’s exit, but he could not find any, the entire place had been sealed shut.
Derrick was about to try something new when he felt the call from earlier grow even stronger.
This time it was so powerful, it completely decimated every iota of willpower Derrick had within.
At this point, the call had shifted from something primal to something spiritual, calling him from the great beyond.
His mind had been put into a crazed state, one that prevented him from being able to think about anything besides the call.
A dark purple crystal lit up in the center of the room, and Derrick couldn’t help himself.
Each step he took closer to the crystal made the call grow even stronger.
This crystal was what had been calling out to him, and he couldn’t resist.
The system’s warnings flared to life, but Derrick blatantly ignored them.
[Manual override activated.]
Derrick suddenly lost control over his body, as a result of the system.
However, through sheer willpower, Derrick moved his legs.
With everything left in him, he leaped into the air, launching him towards the crystal.
He placed his hand on it, and the energy within the crystal shifted.
A spark ignited within the crystal, causing the swirling dark purple energies to grow even wilder.
The crystal began to pulse, its light growing too bright for Derrick to see properly.
Now that the cave had been illuminated, Derrick could see the thousands of corpses littered around the cave.
He was about to scream or cry for help, when he felt a hand latch onto his collar and pull him violently.
Derrick looked around, he had arrived at the outskirts of the forest, and standing beside him was the Almighty Royal Knight.
Derrick opened his mouth to express his gratitude, but a bright purple beam shooting into the air drew his attention.
"By the gods..." Royal Knight drew his sword, and his feet lifted off the ground, his body headed straight for the beam.
Derrick couldn’t believe his eyes, the skies above the forest had fractured completely.
From the pulsing, cracked, red skies, hundreds of beasts poured out, each one came in different shapes and sizes.
Derrick took two steps backwards, fear and panic instantly invaded his mind, there was no way he could survive this.
The beasts hit the ground, followed by a thundering boom.
And then, another figure fell to the ground, the almighty Royal Knight, had fallen from the skies, completely unconscious.
Derrick took two more steps backwards, and stumbled, falling to the ground.
The majority of the beasts survived the fall, and they immediately charged towards Derrick.
