Chapter 13: Late Night Training

While Derrick sat in the solace of his room, he was unable to accept what happened.

Flashes of the doll beating him badly had come into his mind.

He had tried sleeping, but each time his eyes closed, he could see the doll taunting him, which annoyed him even further.

Derrick grunted, he stood to his feet, his mind heavily disturbed.

"Is this your doing?" Derrick asked, referring to the system.

[No, this is the work of your mind] the system’s glowing words proved what Derrick already knew deep down.

Derrick grabbed a glass of water by the side of his bed and rapidly downed it.

Three knocks came from outside Derrick’s room, and Derrick raised a brow.

’That knock.’ It was a knock Derrick didn’t expect. "It’s not Royal Knight’s," Derrick said under his breath.

Royal Knight always stood outside Derrick’s room whenever Derrick slept, so hearing a knock that wasn’t his was strange.

Derrick drew his sword from beside his bed and approached with caution.

His door was protected with enchanted runes, but it wasn’t a risk he could take.

There were people strong enough to break his runes.

[Dragon Eyes activated.]

Derrick’s vision phased and warped, and a new dimension of information flooded his mind.

With his dragon eyes, he could see the runes around his door, and he could still see past it.

’Just a woman?’ Derrick asked himself. He wasn’t being sexist or anything like that, but he doubted a single woman would be sent to kill him.

Three more knocks came through the other side, and this time a voice followed.

"Prince Derrick." A young feminine voice came from the other side, one which was strange to Derrick.

Derrick opened his door cautiously, his sword visibly held in his hands, serving as a deterrent to any nefarious behavior.

"My prince..." The female voice said with a look of worry on her face.

"I heard some noises from inside your room, are you okay?" She continued.

For a second, Derrick had forgotten to speak. The woman had long white hair and beautiful icy blue eyes.

Her skin was the perfect shade of white, and the moon seemed to favor her more than others.

Her body was also a work of art, every inch and curve carved into perfection.

’The gods did a good job on this one.’ Derrick thought silently.

"My prince!" The woman, who seemed to be about Derrick’s age, said. This time, her voice slightly raised.

"Oh yes, I was just doing some late-night training." Derrick chuckled, his cheeks flustered.

"I can see..." The woman said, her eyes fixated on Derrick’s nether regions.

It took Derrick a second to realize what was being looked at, and as soon as he did, he prayed for the gods to open the earth and have it swallow him.

"I think you should get a maiden’s help with that," the woman said, trying to hide her amusement.

Derrick had never felt more embarrassed in his life, getting bricked at the sight of a beautiful woman was alien to him.

"I’m fine, thanks for checking." Derrick slammed his door, and went back to his bed.

His mind was a mess, there was the thought of Klea and the feelings he still had for her.

Also, as a prince, he couldn’t just mingle with anyone, especially now that he was preparing for so much.

"Women are not my priority now," Derrick told himself. Now was not the time to get distracted.

There was something else on Derrick’s mind, and he just couldn’t let it rest.

He looked at his neatly polished sword on the bed, and solidified his decision.

He picked up his sword, opened his door and navigated through his chambers.

There were several knights and maids still roaming around at this time, many fulfilling their duties, and others indulging in various activities.

Derrick couldn’t care less, he needed to ease this feeling in his mind, or he feared he’d go crazy.

Derrick walked for a few minutes, each knight or maid he passed quickly, straightened their stance, or pretended to be busy.

No one expected the prince to be outside by this time, especially without Royal Knight.

Derrick arrived at the entrance to the training room, and quickly pushed open the wooden door.

He walked in confidently, his eyes instantly locked onto the doll in the distance.

His mind had been unable to rest, unable to be calm at the thought of something beating him.

All his life, Derrick had grown up privileged, and his grandmaster talent coupled with his natural physical abilities, made it hard for anyone to defeat him.

The concept of being not just brutally beaten, but beaten into a coma by something didn’t sit right with Derrick.

Derrick’s mind saw this as a strange event, and it refused to allow Derrick to rest until he reclaimed his supremacy.

Derrick stared at the doll, it was completely unmoving, but held a sword in its hands.

"Begin," Derrick said, his voice powerful and domineering.

However, nothing happened. The doll remained still.

"Start." Derrick thought he had just used the wrong command, but the doll still refused to move.

Derrick sighed, unaware of what to do in this situation.

Royal Knight had always been the one to activate the doll, and even then, he never heard any magic words from Royal Knight.

’That’s it, magic words.’ A bulb lit up in Derrick’s mind.

’It could be gesture activated.’ Derrick thought to himself.

Every time he had seen Royal Knight activate the doll in the past, it was always with the snap of a finger.

Derrick raised his hand, and snapped his fingers, expecting the doll to jump to life, but was met with the same result.

Once again, the doll had refused to move or come to life, it stood in one position, its basic armor reflecting the moonlight.

Derrick turned around, ready to leave this place and head back to his room, when he sensed it.

In one swift motion, Derrick turned around and steel met steel.
