Chapter 25: Chapter 25 Don’t worry about me

Victoria’s POV:

I ignored the buzzing of my phone, focusing on the road ahead.

The race had been a near-death experience, and my hands were still trembling slightly on the steering wheel. I had just texted Kane to obtain the surveillance footage. Soon, I would know exactly who had helped me on that track.

"Grace," I said, turning to my best friend, "you should stay here to collect the car. I need to go to the Pack Justice Center to give my statement."

Grace’s face creased with worry. "I’m coming with you. You shouldn’t face those two alone."

"Don’t worry about me," I assured her with more confidence than I felt. "I’ll be fine."

Damian and Felix didn’t try to stop me as I left. Within minutes, I was back in my car heading downtown when my phone chimed with a message from Kane.

"Victoria, we found him. It was him who came to the track."

Below the message was a video attachment. The quality wasn’t perfect, but I immediately recognized that black suit, standing out starkly among everyone else’s casual racing attire.

My wolf Nora stirred within me, suddenly alert as I watched Damian arrive before the race began.

He and Felix stood for less than thirty seconds before he seemed to notice something was wrong. Then, without hesitation, he jumped into Felix’s race car and drove straight onto the track.

So it was Damian Sterling who saved me.

If he hadn’t intervened, blocked Scarlett’s hired driver, and helped me decelerate safely, I might still be hurtling uncontrollably around that track—or worse.

I had suspected it might be him, but seeing the proof made my heart race in a way I was reluctant to admit. My wolf whimpered softly, her interest piqued.

"Why him of all people?" I murmured to myself.

If it had been anyone else, I could easily repay the favor—with gifts, money, or favors.

But Damian Sterling lacked nothing. He had power, wealth, and was completely self-sufficient.

This life debt wouldn’t be easy to repay.

I could already imagine the smug expression on his face the next time we met, as if I were some helpless omega in need of rescue.

Pushing those thoughts aside, I focused on reaching the Pack Justice Center. When I arrived, I immediately spotted Ethan, his face still bearing bruises from the beating Kane’s men had given him last week. The purple-blue marks on his cheekbones gave me a small sense of satisfaction.

His eyes widened when he saw me, filled with that familiar conflicted longing.

"Baby..." he began, using the old pet name that once made my heart race.

"I don’t recall us having any intimacy," I cut him off coldly. "Please call me Miss Lancaster, thank you."

My wolf growled approvingly, still feeling the sting of his betrayal.

"Let’s be clear," I continued, not giving him a chance to speak. "Your wife and her friend deliberately cut my brake lines to try to kill me. Since you’re here, I assume the enforcement officers have explained the situation. I don’t want compensation—I want proper justice to be served."

My expression remained impassive, giving him no room for negotiation. These people had tried to take my life; they deserved no mercy from me.

Ethan opened his mouth, then closed it, finally saying, "There must be some misunderstanding."

"I don’t think there’s any misunderstanding when it comes to attempted murder," I replied sharply.

Just then, Scarlett burst out of the interrogation room, her eyes burning with fury when she saw me. "Victoria! Still trying to seduce my husband, I see!"

I almost laughed at her paranoia. "If he’s so precious to you, perhaps you should lock him up? By your logic, any woman who speaks to him is trying to seduce him. Maybe you should keep him away from all women?"

"Shut up," she snarled, her wolf’s rage flashing in her eyes. "When I get out of here—I’ll make you regret this!"

Even in the Pack Justice Center, surrounded by enforcement officers, she still acted untouchable. Beta bloodline arrogance.

She turned to Ethan, completely changing her demeanor. "Darling, don’t waste time talking to her. She’s just using this as an excuse to get close to you again. Tell these officers who I am and get me out of this embarrassing situation!"

I noticed Ethan glance at me, then quickly look back at Scarlett. He nodded and went to speak with the enforcement officers.

Scarlett sneered at me. "Do you really think this will lead to any charges against me, Victoria?"

"I’ve made it clear I have no interest in Ethan," I said calmly. "So why are you still trying to kill me?"

"Because only your death will stop him from thinking about you!" she hissed, her wolf briefly manifesting in her eyes.

"Even among werewolves, murder is still a crime," I reminded her.

"Ha!" She tossed her hair. "Do you even know who I am? I’m not some nobody like you. Even if you had died today, nothing would have happened to me. Tomorrow I’d still be Mrs. Sterling, living my perfect life, while you’d be forgotten."

Her words were full of smug confidence and implied threats, but I remained calm. My wolf Nora was practically purring inside me—we both knew something Scarlett didn’t.

I allowed myself a small smile. "Is that so? Perhaps I should help spread the word about how powerful you are."

Not understanding my meaning, she continued, "Nothing you say will make any difference!"

"You’re just that untouchable?" I asked, my phone recording every word.

Scarlett’s chest swelled with pride. "You poor little omega, you really don’t understand how money and power work, do you? With enough money, anything can be arranged. Yes, I am that powerful."

She had no idea of the severity of her confession, or that I was recording. My wolf was practically dancing with satisfaction.

I nodded thoughtfully. "I see. But just me knowing won’t do much good, right? Maybe I should help everyone know how untouchable you are. That way, no one would dare cross you. Who knows how many others have died mysteriously around you?"

With one tap, I sent the recording to Kane. He would know exactly how to handle it.

Finally, understanding dawned on Scarlett’s face. "Victoria, are you trying to entrap me into saying something incriminating?"

"Those were all your own words," I replied calmly. "There are enforcement officers everywhere—how could this possibly be entrapment?"

Scarlett looked like she’d been punched, but she had no proof I’d done anything wrong.

Soon, Ethan returned, having completed the necessary paperwork. He had obviously pulled strings and pressured the enforcement officers, who reluctantly told me there wasn’t enough evidence to hold Scarlett.

But I wasn’t worried. Retribution would come for her, and when it did, it would confirm everything Scarlett had just boasted about—her high status, her ability to buy her way out of anything.

I wanted more than just having Scarlett spend a few hours in a holding cell. No, I was going to make both Scarlett and Ethan pay dearly for their betrayal.
