Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 435: Wishful Thinking
"Let me process this." Ruby Sullivan was truly shocked by the news, frowning as she examined Aidan Sinclair carefully.
Although Mr. Sinclair was two years older than Ethan Sterling, his facial features were softer. With his narrow, slightly mischievous eyes, thin lips, and sharp chin, his skin was in excellent condition. Honestly, he didn’t look like a man nearing forty at all.
However, Stella Jennings wouldn’t be an adult until next summer; it’s inappropriate to even call her a sapling, more like a tender shoot sprouting in the spring. Way too tender!
Ruby struggled to digest this, "So, how far have you two gotten?"
"In her eyes, I’m probably just a regular friend." Aidan Sinclair thought about their relationship with some helplessness.
"So... you want me to help you pursue her?"
Aidan nodded.
"I refuse." Ruby Sullivan replied straightforwardly, her expression serious.
She really liked Stella, such a fresh young girl. She absolutely couldn’t let this old fox Aidan ruin her!
Aidan felt like crying, "Can you at least listen to my explanation before refusing?"
Ruby dismissed his plea, "I’m going to refuse anyway, why waste the time?"
Her no-nonsense demeanor was just like Ethan’s, which gave Aidan a headache.
"I swear, my feelings for Stella are serious; I’m in it for the long haul, looking at marriage, not just a fleeting fancy."
Ruby wasn’t buying it, "What guy wouldn’t say that during a relationship? I believe that’s how you feel now, but would you be struck by lightning if you changed your mind? Of course not."
Aidan’s mouth twitched. Even if you don’t believe me, you don’t have to curse me to be struck by lightning, right?
He left dejected, like a wolf clobbered by a frying pan, "Got it."
Watching his disheartened figure, Ruby suddenly felt guilty, realizing she was being biased toward him, "I won’t help you play matchmaker, but I can stay neutral and help as long as it doesn’t violate this principle."
Aidan turned back and grinned like a sly fox, "I just want you to ask her when she plans to date. Nothing else, and please, please, don’t mention that I like her. I’m afraid it will pressure her and affect her performance."
His words were earnest, and Ruby nodded, "Alright, I’ll find some time to contact you about it."
"Great!" Aidan became excited, "You can choose any of our company’s artists—anything you want."
After he left, Ethan laughed helplessly, "It seems that kid is really smitten."
"When a man first falls in love, he thinks he’s the one who cherishes relationships the most. However, the longer they are together, the less they tend to rely on the relationship, while most women become more invested as time goes on." Ruby lay back, continuing to cultivate sleepiness, lazily adding, "So, men’s words can’t be trusted; that’s a sociological conclusion, not just nonsense."
"Yes, yes." Ethan didn’t want to argue with her and risk disrupting her rest.
While sociological conclusions drawn from big data might hold some truth, every individual is unique, and specific situations require specific analysis. How can one set of data explain everything?
But none of that mattered. What mattered was that she firmly believed he was unreliable, yet she chose to be with him anyway.
Aidan Sinclair ran into the third Sinclair brother right after leaving Mr. and Mrs. Sterling’s room.
"I need to talk to you about something," said the third Sinclair brother, leading him into the room to discuss the project that Shawn Sheffield wanted to collaborate on.
"People from the Sheffield Corp. came before the bidding. Their company’s qualifications are inadequate. If they insist on getting involved, it would be too costly for Stellaron." Aidan glanced at the third Sinclair brother, "So the key is whether the favor between Shawn Sheffield and you is worth the price."
"When I was young, he helped me, and after I made it, I helped him handle many sticky situations. The favor was repaid long ago, so whether to collaborate or not is up to your judgment. Also, there’s another matter."
The third Sinclair brother then brought up the Sheffield family’s idea of a marriage alliance.
Aidan’s face immediately darkened, "I have someone I like. Have him drop the idea."
The third Sinclair brother didn’t want to interfere further upon hearing this because regardless of whether his son was telling the truth, it proved that he wasn’t interested in the Sheffield family’s girl.
"There’s no need to be harsh; just pretend this never happened. If the girl from their family brings it up, gently refuse. If she doesn’t, maintain a polite distance to avoid any misunderstandings." With that, the third Sinclair brother was ready to leave.
Aidan couldn’t help but stop him, "Since when have you become so considerate?"
The third Sinclair brother chuckled, "Before I came, I consulted Vivian; she taught me all this."
Aidan felt a little disappointed, "She’s practically my mom now; why doesn’t she just tell me herself?"
"Being a stepmother is hard; she’s afraid to bug you."
"Tell her I’m not bugged," Aidan emphasized.
The third Sinclair brother smiled, patting his son’s shoulder, "I never expected you to get along so well with Ethan. If it weren’t for how close you two are, who knows how long it would have taken for me to marry Vivian."
"Just make sure to treat her well," Aidan muttered, suddenly feeling a bit embarrassed.
"Sure, I will. When you have time, bring the girl you like to introduce to me and Vivian."
"It depends on her; she might not be willing."
"Oh," the third Sinclair brother chuckled, "She sounds like a great girl, so I’m relieved."
In the evening, everyone gathered in the banquet hall for dinner.
Aidan deliberately sat between the third Sinclair brother and Ethan Sterling, not with Wendy Sheffield. Honey hesitated for a moment and then sat beside her mother and brother, giving up the idea of sitting next to Jasper Sheffield.
Sharon Bennett had already left with Leah Bennett, but Cypress Sheffield and Jasper Sheffield stayed, mainly to have Cypress chat with Aidan about the collaboration.
After hearing his daughter’s words, Shawn Sheffield already considered the third Sinclair brother an in-law and began discussing the project with his son after some light chit-chat.
On account of Vivian’s new marriage, Aidan didn’t outright refuse, "This project is large, not something that can be discussed briefly. Bring the materials to my office on Monday."
"Alright." Cypress Sheffield felt that Aidan’s words made the collaboration a done deal, and rather optimistically added, "With a brother-in-law’s help, Sheffield Corp. is bound to successfully transform this year."
Wendy Sheffield coyly said, "Brother, what nonsense are you spouting? I’m a demure little fairy, knowing and not saying it out loud!"
Ruby Sullivan immediately shot daggers with her eyes.
Aidan coughed awkwardly, "I think you’ve misunderstood something, Mr. Sheffield?"
