Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 426: For Stella Jennings’s Sake
Aidan Sinclair froze, his expression changing immediately, "Why didn’t you say so earlier!"
Ethan Sterling ignored him and turned to Hannah Jennings with a gentle smile, "I heard that Stella Jennings is also a volunteer for this organization." 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
The applause was so loud that Hannah didn’t hear what Ethan had just said to Aidan, but seeing his sudden change of expression and both men looking at her intently, she hesitantly nodded.
In fact, she had no idea what connection Stella had with this organization. She hadn’t even spoken much with Stella; she just saw Ethan’s hint for her to nod.
"Is that so..." Aidan squinted with a smile, and recalling the hundred thousand he just donated, his face suddenly felt a bit hot.
Ethan cleared his throat, "Hannah came today just to check out the donation situation on behalf of Stella..."
Before he finished, Aidan raised his paddle again.
Little Dragon Maiden was startled by his action and immediately called his number. After the host came over, Aidan directly asked for the microphone, "I will add an additional donation of ten million and will continue to pay attention to this aspect in the future."
The hall fell quiet again.
Are these brothers sincerely playing with people? Now it has turned into continuous attention, and those small business owners who had only donated a hundred thousand started to feel uneasy again, wondering if they should follow up with more donations.
Dragon Girl, surprised at first, immediately took the lead in applauding, "Thank you, Mr. Sinclair, for your attention to the Marine Animal Protection Organization, thank you for your kindness!"
Ethan also applauded his brother sincerely. For such public welfare activities concerning the survival of mankind, how could he bleed alone? Of course, it would be more gratifying if the brothers both chipped in.
He used the excuse of going to the bathroom to give up his seat, letting Aidan get closer to Hannah.
He went to a quiet place, took out his phone and called Old Black, "How’s it going?"
"Mr. Sterling, I’m following behind, but looking at the road now, it seems like she’s being driven home." Even though he knew the two were divorced, Old Black was confident in referring to Ruby Sullivan as "Mrs." based on his own judgment.
"Keep following," Ethan said, instead of returning, he went directly to the cloakroom to get his coat, called a cab, and headed to Ruby Sullivan’s house.
*
Hannah was waiting for Ethan to come back, feeling a bit annoyed by Aidan’s awkward topics, so she excused herself to the bathroom and got up to find him.
But after circling the venue, she didn’t see Ethan, so she pondered for a moment and went to the cloakroom, "Excuse me, has the item from number 119 been picked up?"
Since he had only left not long ago and with Ethan’s high looks, the counter girl had a strong impression, "That gentleman has already left."
Hannah felt a sinking feeling, simply thanked her, and turned around with her disappointment written all over her face. She thought, by bringing her to this event, he was signaling reconciliation, but leaving her here, what did that mean?
She took a few steps, calmed herself, and called Ethan, with emotions held back, her voice somewhat awkward yet still sweet and soft, "Where are you?"
"I had something to attend to, you can have Aidan take you home."
Hannah’s face darkened upon hearing this, "Why should he take me? I can go back myself."
"Alright, be careful on the way," Ethan politely added the latter half of the sentence and then hung up the phone.
Hannah was convinced of her thoughts; bringing her here was not for reconciliation. His silence when she called herself his girlfriend was to provoke Ruby; he didn’t care about her at all. She could see everything, so why still hope and feel hurt?
She felt awful, standing there rigidly, at a loss.
After waiting for a long time, Aidan, not seeing her return, followed up, guessing what had happened seeing her like that.
"Should I take you home?" Aidan, thinking she might become his sister-in-law, was so nervous that he was stumbling over his words.
"Get lost!" Hannah raised her eyes, a bit red, half of her words caught in her throat, not very clear, but her eyes were full of disgust, filling in what wasn’t said.
"Huh?" Aidan hadn’t been spoken to like that in a long time and didn’t react immediately.
Hannah glared at him indignantly, "I told you to get lost!" She shouted, forgetting that even when speaking to her father, this man would maintain a certain level of respect; he was not someone she could afford to offend.
Aidan got angry, stepped forward to block her, and sneered, "Miss Jennings, I think you may have misunderstood something?"
Hannah frowned, stunned by his sudden change of expression.
Aidan felt that today’s issue needed to be clarified; otherwise, what would he become?
"Whether I’m talking to you today or offering to take you home, it’s all because of Stella. I think you’re overthinking." Saying that he put his hands in his pockets, turned around, collected his coat from the counter, and left the hotel first, no longer wanting to see the stunned Hannah.
Ethan called Hannah just to ask if she could accompany him to the event today, aiming to get Aidan back on track quickly so as not to delay the Nihona project, but he didn’t tell Hannah much more.
Hannah thought Aidan had schemes for her, and Ethan had essentially handed her over to a friend, feeling not only wronged but her pride deeply hurt. Transferring her anger away from Ethan, it ended up directed at Aidan.
She couldn’t imagine that the seemingly subservient and accommodating Aidan in front of her was putting on an act, turning from a loyal follower into a wolf in a blink of an eye.
Then she thought of Aidan’s words "for Stella’s sake", feeling even more frustrated and angry, crying as she called her mom, unable to say anything but asking her to send a driver to pick her up.
Mrs. Jennings, hearing her daughter crying, hit the roof in a panic and immediately changed clothes to head out with the driver.
Aidan was still angry too, calling Ethan from the car, but initially, there was no answer, and later, he simply turned off his phone.
Ethan knew that answering his call now would surely bring trouble; his mind was filled with thoughts of Tobias Townsend and Ruby Sullivan, with no mood to deal with his petty issues.
*
Before getting out of the car, Ruby Sullivan thanked Tobias Townsend, "But there’s still one thing I don’t understand."
"Go ahead."
"Since you decided not to cooperate with me, why donate that extra two million?"
Tobias smiled, "The girl who spoke on stage today is my fiancée." This was also the reason he said thank you to her at the venue.
Ruby suddenly understood and said no more, getting out of the car.
Recently, she had seen too many men persistent in love; why wasn’t Ethan one of them? The thought crossed her mind, and she smiled bitterly, thinking this line of thought was ungrateful. He wasn’t without persistence; it was she who kept pushing him away, wasn’t it?
Ruby sighed, feeling an unspeakable discomfort, but she was exhausted now, only wanting to get home and take off the high heels on her feet as soon as possible.
