Chapter 346: Chapter 346: There’s Still Hope

Gwen Yates made a move to chase after him, but Skylar Aldrin grabbed her arm, "Didn’t you hear what he said?"

Gwen shook off his hand and said fiercely, "Skylar Aldrin, it’s not your business to meddle in my affairs!" After speaking, she quickly left the banquet hall. Even if she didn’t chase after Caleb Ford, she didn’t want to continue to embarrass herself here.

Skylar lowered his head, clenched his fists tightly, and at over six feet tall, stood there like a wooden pole, looking foolish.

The guests present were all people who valued their reputation, and after watching the spectacle, they no longer paid attention. Considering Skylar’s status, no one dared to speak recklessly even though this young master of the Aldrin Family was not promising. But the Aldrin Family had only this one successor, and he was absolutely not to be offended.

Rhonda Sullivan stepped closer, "Young Master Aldrin, would you like me to arrange a car to take you back?"

Ruby Sullivan timely approached and said, "We were about to leave, would you like to join us?"

Skylar nodded slowly while looking at her and walked out first.

Rhonda showed a slight displeasure on her face, feeling that Ruby intentionally didn’t want her to establish a relationship with Skylar. However, she needed to make peace today, so she quickly put on a smile, warmly grabbing Ruby’s hand, "I know you’re worried about the child, be careful on the road, and... no matter what you think, dad genuinely misses you and the child, he talks about you every day at home."

Ruby, not expecting her to ramble on, showed no disguise of her disdain and disgust, "No one’s watching, you don’t need to act." After saying that, she pulled her hand away and turned to link arms with Ethan Sterling.

Rhonda suddenly stepped forward, anxiously saying, "You should let Ethan know everything you did for him in Caelus, don’t keep all the grievances to yourself."

Ruby froze, turned her head and glared at her, "It’s not your concern."

Ethan looked down at his wife, seeing her glaring furiously ahead, and patted her hand.

He could naturally tell that Rhonda was doing it on purpose, bringing up the matter before them so he could no longer pretend ignorance. From Rhonda’s behavior, even without investigating, he already knew something unacceptable had likely happened in Caelus.

Ethan momentarily imagined the worst outcome, a cold gleam appearing in his eyes.

As they walked out of the hotel, Ruby looked ahead and said in a calm voice, "Everything Rhonda said, I’ll tell you when I’m ready. Until then, please don’t ask anything."

She dared not look at him as she spoke, for fear her feigned strength would crumble in an instant.

Ethan smiled and tilted his head to kiss her, "Don’t worry, I hadn’t planned to ask anyway."

Ruby let out a long breath and continued walking, "That’s good."

Skylar recognized Ethan’s car and was already waiting outside.

Ethan glanced at the silly tall guy and couldn’t help but ask curiously, "Why do you care about him?" Regardless of Skylar’s distinguished status, he wanted no entanglement with him; being friends with a fool is worse than being friends with a rogue; a fool might ruin you while still smiling, claiming it’s for your own good.

Ruby laughed, turned her head to look at him, "If I say seeing him makes me think of myself, would you believe it?"

Once upon a time, wasn’t Ruby just such a silly person? Her eyes were only for Ethan, thinking he was the best man in the world, believing marrying him must have been the accumulated virtue of eight generations of ancestors.

Ethan understood the true meaning behind her words, "I’m sorry."

She shook her head, "I’ve long said I don’t blame you, it can only be said that you and I shouldn’t have been together at the wrong time."

Ethan held her hand tightly, agreeing that the timing was wrong before, it was he who was not mature enough to know what was good. Now, he must not make the same mistake again.

The two walked slowly over, and Skylar kept his head down, not noticing them at all.

"Get in the car," Ethan instructed.

He suddenly looked up, realizing they were right in front of him.

After getting in the car, Ethan asked Skylar where he wanted to go, "Home or school?"

"I can’t go home, don’t want to go to school either..." Skylar kept his head down, voice full of frustration.

"There’s no place for you at my house," Ethan said bluntly.

"I can sleep on the couch."

For some reason, he just didn’t want to see those people in the dormitory now, afraid they would ask questions he didn’t know how to answer.

Even he didn’t know why he felt this way.

"Sister-in-law, tell me, is it really true that women love bad men? Because I’m actually... not a very good person." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

"Gwen is interested in Caleb Ford’s money; he works in venture capital, and the Yates Family really needs financial support right now," Ethan answered his question.

Skylar was surprised, turning his head to look at Ethan, "Impossible, right? No matter how much the Yates Family needs money, they wouldn’t make their daughter do such a thing, that would be no different than..." Selling out. But thinking of the person involved being Gwen, he couldn’t bring himself to say those harsh words.

Ruby laughed, feeling that this child from a military family was really well protected, not even understanding something like this.

"Nothing strange at all. Families like the Yates Family, who wish to climb up by marrying off their daughters, are everywhere. It’s just that given the current situation of the Yates Family, perhaps they couldn’t wait for Gwen to get married, so they wanted her to get close to Caleb Ford," Ethan lazily explained.

Skylar thought for a moment, frowning, "But isn’t our Aldrin Family background stronger than that Caleb Ford’s? He just said he wouldn’t dare provoke the Aldrin Family."

"Everyone here today would love to associate with the Aldrin Family, but not with you. Are you not aware of your own abilities?"

Skylar fell silent, turning away and hanging his head even lower.

Ruby felt a bit sorry for how low-spirited he looked, and appropriately encouraged, "If you can turn over a new leaf now and rehabilitate, there is still hope."

"Yeah, thank you, sister-in-law," he replied in a muffled voice.

These words of gratitude added a little more warmth in Ethan and Ruby’s hearts. Although foolish and a bit rebellious, this kid had good nature and knew right from wrong. As long as he understood right from wrong and was obedient, there was still hope for him.

When they reached the gate of the community, Ethan had Old Black stop the car, intending to get out and walk home with Ruby, which also allowed Old Black to send Skylar directly back to school. But unexpectedly, Skylar followed them out of the car.

Ethan glared, "Why are you getting out?"

"To go home with you." Skylar pulled his hoodie as he spoke matter-of-factly, "Don’t all you rich people like to live in big villas? How come you and sister-in-law live so plainly?" He had wanted to ask this question since the last time he visited.

Having said that, he had already started walking inside by himself. After several meters, he realized Ethan and Ruby hadn’t followed him, so he turned around, walking backward while saying, "How about we meet downstairs later? I won’t interrupt your walk then."
