Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 339: Want to Be a Flower Girl
The next day was the day of the banquet. Rhonda Sullivan hadn’t made up her mind whether to attend or not, or what excuse she could use if she didn’t go. Yet she noticed that Ethan Sterling was quite concerned about it.
He specially took Rhonda Sullivan back to their old home to select a dress for the banquet, not only needing it to be gorgeous and elegant but also to have a coordinated look. Ethan Sterling took out three dresses from the fitting room, laid them in front of Rhonda Sullivan, and asked, "Which dress do you like?"
His intention was that once Rhonda chose her dress, he would select a suit to match it.
Rhonda Sullivan felt speechless. Had he really pulled her out of the office in a hurry just to choose outfits?
"It’s not even an important banquet, why so nervous?" Rhonda Sullivan murmured as she picked up and looked at the dresses one by one, appearing lackluster.
Ethan Sterling thought she was tired, so he gently pulled her onto his lap, holding her and coaxing, "I know Rhonda gives you bad memories, but this banquet isn’t significant to me, yet it’s important for you. I heard the famous perfume distributor Alex will be there. His presence means he sees business opportunities. Making his acquaintance can only be beneficial, not harmful."
Ethan Sterling’s earnest persuasion was quite unlike his usual self. He had been thinking hard about taking Nirvana to the next level without letting his wife notice he was helping, which was quite challenging.
Rhonda Sullivan wrapped her arms around his neck, feeling a bit embarrassed to make excuses and decline as he seriously tried to convince her. She swayed gently with his rhythm, hesitantly saying, "I’m not really good at these things, you know..."
"Um... may I interrupt?" Cindy Sterling stood at the door, clearing her throat.
Rhonda Sullivan quickly sprang up from Ethan Sterling’s lap and glanced at Cindy with a smile, "What’s up?"
"Sis-in-law, are you cooking tonight? Vivian says she’s nostalgic for your cooking but is too embarrassed to ask you herself, so she sent me to see if you’re planning to cook," Cindy explained.
"Sure," Rhonda Sullivan agreed, still somewhat flustered.
"It’s really not a good idea," Ethan Sterling interjected, stopping her, and said to his sister, "Your sister-in-law is too tired lately, and we won’t be eating here tonight. Honey and Seth are at home."
"Well... Vivian had heard you would be back and has already sent a driver to pick them up," Cindy responded.
Seizing the opportunity, Rhonda Sullivan walked over, took Cindy’s arm, and headed out, saying, "What do you want to eat tonight? I’ll make it for you."
Cindy glanced back at her brother’s fiery eyes, her mouth twitching slightly, "I have to help Sasha Shaw with a runway show next month, so I can’t eat anything too oily. Can you make a diet meal, sis-in-law?"
"Of course, I can. When I was losing weight, I researched many recipes and saved them on my computer. I’ll send them to you today, and you can have the housekeeper prepare them. Delicious and guilt-free," Rhonda assured.
Cindy was thrilled to hear this, "Sis-in-law, I love you so much!"
The two chatted and laughed as they went downstairs to the kitchen. Rhonda Sullivan prepared ingredients along with the housekeeper while Cindy chatted on the side. She recently had a good experience working in the company. Most of her work involved planning promotional strategies based on the characteristics of their cosmetic products and liaising with advertising companies.
Suddenly, Cindy leaned close to her and quietly asked, "Is Nathaniel really getting married?"
Rhonda Sullivan’s face showed a trace of awkwardness, "I’ve been busy lately; I don’t know what’s going on with him."
"Oh," Cindy replied, somewhat disappointed, hesitating as she lingered by Rhonda’s side. "Sis-in-law, what do you think about me going to R City to stir things up a bit?"
Rhonda Sullivan nearly cut her hand upon hearing this and quickly put down the knife, "Are you serious?"
Cindy burst into laughter, "Of course, I’m just joking. You can carry on with your work; I won’t cause a fuss." After saying that, she turned and left the kitchen.
Soon, Honey and Seth arrived, and Cindy played hide-and-seek with the children. Occasionally, bursts of laughter echoed into the kitchen, but Rhonda Sullivan felt that Cindy’s laughter was somewhat forced.
She hoped she was overthinking it and didn’t inquire further, as she herself was too preoccupied at the moment.
It was close to dinner time when Leon Sterling got home from work.
Unlike Cindy, Leon was most interested in understanding the production processes of cosmetics, so he had gone to the factory for an inspection, planning not to return to headquarters for a month. Seeing Mr. and Mrs. Sterling and the kids at home, all the exhaustion from his grueling day seemed to dissipate.
After Leon went to the factory, Ethan Sterling hadn’t asked how it was going. Seeing him looking thoroughly drained, he couldn’t help but suggest ending the inspection early.
Originally, he had wanted Don to assist him and get familiar with the company’s operations, so that eventually he could share the work. Little did he expect his brother would want to start from the grassroots level.
Honestly, Leon wasn’t his son, and who knows how long he would stay in the company. Ethan really didn’t want him wasting time at the factory. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Upon hearing this suggestion, Leon decisively shook his head, "I quite enjoy the work there, although it’s a bit tiring. I believe persisting for a month will reap substantial benefits."
Seeing him insist, Ethan Sterling nodded, "Alright then."
Vivian had never imagined that one day the Sterling brothers could manage the family business together harmoniously, much less that Ethan Sterling would one day regard them as real family. With these thoughts, she looked at Rhonda Sullivan more appreciatively, seizing the chance to serve her a bite, "Rhonda, don’t blame me for nagging. Now that you and Ethan are stable, find some time to go to the civil affairs bureau and get remarried."
Rhonda Sullivan was caught off guard by Vivian, who was typically far from serious, bringing this up and almost choked on her rice, coughing persistently with no end in sight.
Ethan Sterling quickly got up and poured her a glass of water.
Vivian also seemed panicked, "Eat slowly, how did you choke?"
Not intending to answer, Rhonda could only cover her mouth and maintain silence, pretending her throat still hurt.
Picking up on her discomfort, Ethan Sterling replied, "We’ll handle this matter ourselves."
Curious, Honey asked, "Vivian, what’s remarriage?"
"Remarriage is..." Vivian started, but didn’t know how to explain it to the little sweetheart, fearing she’d make matters worse.
Seth glanced at her and explained, "Didn’t Mom and Dad divorce? Now remarrying means getting married again."
Thinking of weddings she’d seen on TV, Honey’s eyes lit up, "Mom, Dad, when you remarry, can my brother and I be the flower children?"
Seeing his daughter’s expectant look, Ethan Sterling couldn’t help but smile, his gaze softening, "Of course."
Honey laughed with joy, but her laughter felt like a heavy stone on Rhonda Sullivan’s chest, making her feel out of breath.
If she were to part ways with Ethan Sterling, even if Seth understood, what about Honey? How could she explain it to her?
Or... should she just pretend nothing happened and continue peacefully with Ethan Sterling?
