Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 242: She Must Die
Ethan Sterling embraced Ruby Sullivan with heartache, gently rubbing her back, "No matter what decision you make, I will respect it. From now on, no one can hurt you anymore."
His words, light and soft, carried a warm temperature that drifted into her ears, instantly shattering her defensive line.
Ruby Sullivan raised her arms to hold him, burying her face into his chest, and broke into sobs.
Ethan Sterling kissed her hair repeatedly, wishing he could magically erase all her memories.
Exhausted from crying, Ruby Sullivan fell asleep in his arms, and when she opened her eyes again, the sky outside had darkened. There was a thermal container on the bedside table, suggesting Mama Bennett had been there.
Ethan Sterling was sitting by the hospital bed, reviewing a project proposal. Upon hearing movement, he immediately closed his notebook and put the computer aside, smiling at her. Seeing her attempt to get up, he quickly got up to help, reacting faster than a professional caregiver.
"Thirsty?" He opened a thermal cup and handed it to her, "It’s still warm, just right for drinking."
Ruby Sullivan took a sip to moisten her throat and glanced at his notebook, "You haven’t been to the company for several days, have you?"
"I’ll handle the company’s matters; you don’t need to worry." Ethan Sterling said as he began preparing porridge for her. When the lid of the thermal container was opened, a rich aroma wafted out, it was a nourishing chicken and multigrain porridge.
He took the water cup from Ruby Sullivan’s hand, scooped out the porridge, and handed it to her, "Let me feed you."
Ruby Sullivan found his attentiveness puzzling, "Why?"
"I want to feed you." Actually, he was just worried she was too weak from crying too much today and wanted her to conserve energy. Even though drinking porridge didn’t use much energy, this was all he could do for her at the moment.
"No need." Ruby Sullivan tried to take the bowl from his hand, but seeing his insistence on avoiding her, she frowned, "Give it to me. I’m not an invalid."
Afraid she would get anxious, Ethan Sterling didn’t dare persist, "Alright, alright, you eat it yourself." He let out a helpless sigh and began serving himself.
Ruby Sullivan silently ate the porridge, constantly staring at the bowl, seemingly unwilling to say anything.
He knew her mind must be a mess, so he didn’t disturb her, just quietly accompanied her while she ate, occasionally glancing at her to check if she needed a tissue, water, or anything like that.
After she finished eating, he asked if she wanted some fruit. When she shook her head, he stopped asking, just watched her, with an expression akin to a loyal dog.
Ruby Sullivan leaned on the hospital bed, looked at him, and smiled slightly, raising her hand to touch his head, "You look so gentle like this."
All this time, Ethan Sterling had stayed in the hospital. Although Ruby Sullivan had started showering and changing clothes after waking up, she hadn’t been to the company, so he hadn’t applied hair gel, and his hair had a fluffy look, giving him a youthful energy.
Ethan Sterling also smiled, letting her play with his hair, "From now on, I want to always be this gentle in front of you."
Ruby Sullivan giggled softly, retracting her hand, gently touching her fingers, as if trying to shape the feeling of touching his hair, "If I insist on pressing charges, will Rhonda Sullivan be sentenced to death?"
"I won’t let her insanity plea stand." Ethan Sterling said with certainty, affirming her question.
"I want her dead." Ruby Sullivan said softly, her voice lacking strength. After speaking, she let out a long breath, feeling truly exhausted.
Because of Rhonda Sullivan, and because of Brandon Sullivan.
After hearing Brandon Sullivan’s words, she suddenly realized she had become an orphan. Despite constantly worrying about his safety, the older daughter he heavily relied on always wanted to kill him. Even if he knew, even if he heard it straight from Rhonda Sullivan, he would forgive her, because he owed her.
But what about this younger daughter?
He had always cherished her since childhood, letting her do whatever she wanted, eat whatever she wanted, ignore company matters as long as she didn’t kill or commit arson. Ruby Sullivan was truly grateful that apart from loving food as a child, she had no other big desires, or else who knows how Rhonda Sullivan might have exploited her.
It’s unimaginable.
Leaning into Ethan Sterling’s embrace, she suddenly realized that this man she hated to the core had become her only support and the only one she could speak to.
"Don’t worry, I’ll handle it," Ethan Sterling said softly, holding her arm.
Ruby Sullivan tapped his hand back repeatedly, asking with some emotion, "Why do you keep helping me? Is it because of Honey, or a guilty conscience wanting to atone?"
Ethan Sterling felt as if his chest had been stabbed twice. Still, he was used to it, and considering her current weakness, he decided not to hold it against her.
He tilted his head to kiss her cheek, "Then tell me, why do I keep wanting to kiss you?"
Ruby Sullivan felt her face heat up, pursing her lips while looking down, "Taking advantage of the opportunity."
"That’s right." Ethan Sterling took a deep breath; he really was. "And what else?"
"What else could it be?"
"I want to hug you, kiss you, sleep next to you every day, live a good life with you, and raise Honey and Seth together." Ethan Sterling held her hand, "Even though we’re divorced, you’ve always been my wife in my heart. I take care of you, protect you, because... because I love you."
Though it was hard to say, after those three words "I love you" were spoken, his heart felt warm, as if moved by his own confession.
When Ruby Sullivan heard "Seth," the DNA test report flashed in her mind, causing her to frown slightly. Even though she still managed to smile, the weight of these words was somewhat diminished in her heart. But for now, she didn’t want to know anything.
The impact she suffered was enough. Regardless of who Seth’s biological mother was or his relationship with Ethan Sterling, it didn’t matter. She didn’t want to overlook everything he had done for her. If in the past she could still misunderstand his intentions for The Sullivan Group, now she couldn’t think of any reason Ethan Sterling would need to please her, except that he loved her.
Exactly. Ruby Sullivan reassured herself internally, desperately trying to believe in the fact of being loved... it was her only choice now.
The next day, the police came to the hospital to take a statement, basically asking about the events of that day and the history between Rhonda Sullivan and her. Ruby Sullivan was very calm throughout and expressed her determination to pursue the charges.
Afterwards, Ethan Sterling changed Ruby Sullivan’s hospital room and informed the relevant medical staff that no matter who came to visit, without his permission, they should say Ruby Sullivan had been discharged.
He had to leave the hospital to handle matters regarding Rhonda Sullivan, and he couldn’t stay in the hospital with her during the day. Absolutely, he couldn’t let Brandon Sullivan see her again.
