Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 221: Returning to China
Ruby Sullivan was really a bit angry, not only for taking Ethan Sterling’s side but also for herself.
She came to Meridia not only to take care of her father conveniently but mainly to seek some peace. However, it seemed she never really had peace, and even her two children were involved.
After figuring this out, just before dinner, she seriously said, "After this semester ends, how about we go back home to live?"
"Yeah!" Honey clapped her hands in agreement immediately. "That way, I can see dad every day, right?" She thought for a while, "I’d probably miss Nina." But when she remembered that there were also friends she got along with in her kindergarten back home, it didn’t seem like much compared to being apart from her dad.
Seth Sterling didn’t know why his mother made such a decision, but he had said yesterday that he would respect his mother’s choice, so it wasn’t good for him to vote against it now.
But Ruby Sullivan wanted to know his thoughts, seeing him silent with his head down, she asked, "What about you, Seth?"
"Um... whatever is fine." Seth said, pursing his lips, feeling he didn’t have much say in the matter.
Seeing him that way, Ruby felt a bit sorry, "Seth, you can attend elementary school there too when we go back. I know you’ll miss Jack, but... I’m not at ease with your dad being alone back home, nor am I at ease with your little aunt, so after much thought, I think going back would be best."
Most importantly, she wondered if people secretly following her and taking photos would pose any threat to the children.
"Yeah, I understand." Seth was still somewhat downhearted.
On Christmas Eve, Ethan Sterling specifically made time to come to Meridia to celebrate with the kids. To say goodbye to friends, Ruby especially invited Nina and Jack to their home so the kids could say their farewells and enjoy some excitement before the festival.
Nina and Honey clung to each other, crying messily, making even Seth and Jack, the little handsome guys, feel melancholy too, though they tried hard not to cry.
This time Brandon came over with Ethan, ready to take their father back with them since the decision was made.
On the eve of New Year’s Day, the family of four, along with the comatose Brandon Sullivan, returned to their homeland once again.
Ruby Sullivan stood once more in front of the Sterling Family’s villa, filled with mixed emotions once again.
This time, though she was no longer the mistress of the house, it brought her more peace than any previous return.
Vivian cheerfully welcomed the children into the house, while Cindy Sterling glanced at her, avoiding her without even a greeting, seemingly unwilling to see her.
Ruby thought maybe she simply didn’t want to see outsiders and didn’t take it to heart.
After the New Year, Ruby Sullivan immediately went to work at The Sullivan Group, taking over the management from Howard after a month of familiarizing herself with the business, although the high-level management had opinions about having a female CEO overseeing the space, knowing she was backed by The Sterling Group, they didn’t dare trouble her.
The Sullivan Group had always acted as a distributor. During its peak period, there were many opportunities to expand, but since the company was under Rhonda Sullivan back then, those opportunities were missed, gradually losing its core competitiveness, becoming an affiliate of The Sterling Group.
Ruby Sullivan, after taking over, didn’t plan for any changes immediately. At this stage, her priority was to help The Sterling Group solidify the Euronia market, intending to increase profits before thinking of other things.
The case of Ethan Sterling and Rhonda Sullivan was still ongoing. Ruby wanted to see Rhonda as a sister, but The Finn Family refused her. She consulted with a lawyer and could only apply through normal judicial procedures after the New Year.
Unexpectedly, the end of the year arrived in the blink of an eye.
On New Year’s Eve, Vivian invited The Sinclair Family father and son to the home, tidying up two guest rooms specifically for them to watch the Spring Festival Gala together that evening.
Having been abroad for many years, Vivian hadn’t watched the Spring Festival Gala in a long time. For her first Spring Festival upon returning home, she was more excited than the two kids.
Cindy Sterling’s condition showed no signs of improvement, her rapidly shapeshifting body making her increasingly reluctant to come out of her room. Only allowing the maids to tidy her room, and refusing anyone else to enter, occasionally rebuffing Ethan when he tried to chat with her over a beer in the evening.
It was as if she was living outside the world, completely sealing herself off.
They were helpless; in such a situation, it was even less likely she would see a psychiatrist.
After the New Year, Ruby Sullivan and Ethan Sterling interviewed over a dozen young perfumers who had sent in resumes, eventually deciding to promote Claire as a supervisor, while hiring two additional newcomers.
Claire was dumbfounded when she received the notification, never imagining that she, having entered The Sterling Group only a year ago, would manage to secure a supervisor role, especially since Young should have been next in line according to seniority.
"But there’s no seniority system among perfumers. I value your talent. Uh, of course, if you keep being a loudmouth gossip, it’ll only hold back your career," Ruby Sullivan quipped, though she meant it sincerely.
"Boss, I definitely won’t disappoint you."
Ruby Sullivan blinked, "I’m just here to help, I’m not your boss anymore."
The laboratory, besides having good news, naturally had some bad news too.
She glanced at Young, who kept his head down, not daring to look at her, saying nothing. She knew Young had probably received the termination email since the issues with previous samples were due to his tampering.
This year, The Lawson Group exceptionally launched a new product close to Christmas, competing with Daydream for the market, also because she had tipped off L.
As Young was packing up to leave, she met Ruby Sullivan on the first floor, quickly looking down, pretending not to see her.
Ruby stopped her, "Is there nothing you’d like to say to me?"
Young frowned, "I’m sorry, I... was just blinded by greed." Actually, it wasn’t just for money, she... also fell for that man, clearly knowing she was quite ordinary, and that he was merely using her, capitalizing on her weakness, yet she still unwittingly helped him do these things.
When L asked her to add ingredients to Daydream at the factory, she refused. Joining them for a celebration meal, getting angry was entirely because she couldn’t stand herself.
She thought of these actions as revenge for Ruby Sullivan, but Ethan Sterling and Ruby Sullivan were clearly so in love, leaving her without even a pretext.
"L promised me a job at The Lawson Group, so you don’t need to worry." She said sheepishly, still looking down.
Ruby Sullivan watched her leave, really wanting to meet L face to face. According to Jessica’s investigation, L was also the one who hired a private investigator in Meridia to investigate her.
This man’s possessiveness was truly terrifying. If he intended to retrieve everything given to her, she could relinquish the perfumer job, but all of this needed to conclude!
