Chapter 202: Chapter 202: Can’t Afford the Price

Outside the operating room, in the corridor, Old Mr. Finn slapped Dina Finn hard across the face in front of everyone, "You ungrateful child!"

Not far away, Aidan Sinclair squinted his eyes, while his uncle, who had been standing facing the operating room, didn’t move at all, as if he didn’t care if Old Mr. Finn killed his granddaughter.

Dina Finn had her head knocked to the side and, after a long while, dejectedly said, "If Naomi’s in trouble, I’ll give my life in compensation."

"Give your life?" Aidan Sinclair sneered. "Is your life even worth it?"

He knew Dina was his sister’s good friend and understood the thoughts running through his sister’s mind when she rushed out, but he couldn’t bring himself to be forgiving now; the fact that he hadn’t immediately launched a business war against the Finn Family was the only concession he had made.

Old Mr. Finn furrowed his brows slightly. Naturally, he didn’t like what he heard, but given the other party’s business stature, he had to swallow his pride regardless of his displeasure, saying nothing. They were at fault, and hopefully, the situation wouldn’t escalate further.

The lady with him, however, found it hard to hold back.

Although Dina Finn wasn’t related to her by blood, it was a matter of the Finn Family’s reputation. If she didn’t speak now, she felt like there was cotton stuck in her throat, unable to go up or down, feeling utterly nauseating.

"Naomi and Dina are good friends, and everyone saw that Naomi risked her life saving her friend. Saying such things, Naomi would be heartbroken if she heard."

This Mrs. Finn, over twenty years younger than Old Mr. Finn, was from Shengport, speaking with a Southern woman’s innate allure. At the moment, her soft inflection sounded rather unpleasant.

Aidan Sinclair glared, knowing his sister’s condition inside the operating room was uncertain, and despite her being an elder, he restrained himself from lashing out.

The previously silent uncle suddenly sighed deeply, "Mr. Finn, why don’t you head back first? Bringing your pet here to bark aimlessly is quite irritating." He hadn’t interacted with these people for many years, yet his age-weathered voice still held the authoritative presence of yesteryears.

"What do you mean?" Mrs. Finn’s eyebrows arched immediately, but she refrained from speaking further after being stopped by Old Mr. Finn’s gaze.

The Finn Family’s reputation was already tarnished, and with this incident offending the Bennett Family, future dealings with the government would likely encounter difficulties. Now, they absolutely couldn’t afford to offend the Sinclair Family.

Old Mr. Finn sighed, noticing Dina Finn had no intention of leaving, then departed with his son and wife.

Ruby Sullivan told Ethan Sterling she was going to the hospital’s small shop to buy an ice cream for Dina Finn, "Apply it on your face."

Dina Finn had washed off most of her bridal makeup in the restroom, her somewhat mottled face looking ghost-like under the dim lights, with one side noticeably swollen from the slap.

She took the ice cream, whispering a "thank you."

Ruby Sullivan sighed as well, patting her shoulder in comfort.

Naomi Sinclair’s body was already frail; that she made it to twenty-eight was a medical miracle. Now, after being severely injured, it was up to fate.

After five hours of surgery, Naomi was sent to the ICU. According to the doctors, the operation wasn’t very successful; the wound had injured her internal organs. Though they managed to save her life, she could become critically ill at any moment.

When the doctor left, the uncle suddenly swayed, fortunately caught just in time by Aidan Sinclair.

The uncle took a breath, gesturing with his hand, "I’m fine."

Aidan Sinclair, concerned, said, "You should head back; I’ll stay here and notify you immediately if anything happens."

After a long pause, the uncle nodded, realizing staying would risk him falling ill, unable to help in any real way.

Aidan Sinclair turned to Ethan Sterling, "Sterling, could you help get my dad back home?"

Ethan Sterling nodded, "Reach out if there’s anything."

"Let me help you." Ruby Sullivan held onto the uncle’s arm. His earlier appearance reminded her of her own father lying in the hospital bed, surely as distressed when he heard she had had an accident.

Once they had all left, Dina Finn slowly stepped forward to Aidan Sinclair, saying, "I’ll stay here tonight."

Aidan Sinclair just glanced at her, saying nothing, before quickly moving aside to call his assistant, arranging various things, including equipment for staying by the ICU overnight, dinner that evening, and the next morning’s meeting schedule.

He didn’t want to deal with Dina Finn; just looking at her made him angry, even when he rationally understood everything, he still couldn’t bring himself to forgive. He couldn’t accept his sister leaving this way, even though he knew her illness wouldn’t let her hold on much longer.

In the car, the uncle asked Ethan Sterling to drop him at the hotel across the hospital.

Ethan Sterling hesitated briefly, then suggested, "Why don’t you come eat with us first, and then I’ll take you back to the hotel."

The uncle shook his head, "You and your wife don’t need to worry; I’ll find something to eat myself, want to sleep early, just in case there’s bad news at night, I’ll be able to get up."

The relationship with this daughter was peculiar; back then, when she first came into his life, just seeing a baby incessantly crying bothered him endless. He couldn’t pinpoint when, but gradually transformed into a doting father.

Now, he’s both fearful and extremely worried.

He feels he hasn’t been a good role model, always worried she’d resent him.

The uncle sighed.

Ethan Sterling and Ruby Sullivan exchanged a look, knowing nothing more needed to be said in this situation, then took him to the hotel, and only left after making sure he had eaten by ordering takeout.

At his age, any oversight could lead to accidents. He’d already been hit by hypotension at the hospital, so they needed to ensure he ate something to be reassured.

On the way home, Ruby Sullivan called Sasha Shaw but couldn’t get through, leaving her no choice but to dial Leon Sterling, "How’s Sasha?"

"Since coming back from the hotel, she’s locked herself in her room, refusing to come out, eat, or drink," Leon Sterling looked at her tightly closed door, feeling helpless, aware she wasn’t even going to the restroom. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Ruby Sullivan, just as worried, briefly recounted the wedding incident, "Naomi might be in grave danger this time. Do you... want to visit her at the hospital?" Though she knew this request might seem morally coercive to Leon Sterling, she had heard doctors say that in a patient’s unconscious state, deep brain activity remains; conversations can enhance the patient’s will to survive.

Perhaps Leon Sterling’s voice could help Naomi through this ordeal.

Leon Sterling, after a pause, resolutely stated, "No." Attending the wedding was a promise he made to her, telling himself it was the last promise to her, thus he took Sasha Shaw, wanting her to give up.

He didn’t want to deal with those medical hypotheses, only knowing he mustn’t go. If Naomi could make it, she’d do so even without him. He didn’t want any further ties between them.

Understanding his stance, Ruby Sullivan didn’t press further. After hanging up, she asked Ethan Sterling to take her to Sasha Shaw’s house; she was deeply worried about her friend.
