Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 196: Mr. Sterling’s Service
During the first week of "Daydream" entering the market, Ruby Sullivan routinely went to the factory every day to provide technical guidance. Because they had collaborated before, things went more smoothly this time than when launching a new product. However, due to previous instances of failed sample adjustments, Ruby did not take things lightly.
The issues that arose in the previous stage were recoverable, but as they moved forward, any unexpected problems could no longer be afforded.
Because Emma’s face had not yet recovered, a new spokesperson had to be chosen for the perfume. Although it was something that had to be done, both Ethan Sterling and Ruby Sullivan felt a bit burdened, as if undertaking this necessary task meant abandoning Emma.
Emma’s mood had been increasingly low lately, to the point where she wouldn’t even let her family call her Emma at home.
That name carried all of her accolades and praise. She was a model, an artist, and her face was her working asset.
Watching her cooped up at home, unwilling to go out, Ruby Sullivan was also very worried. Now even the two babies were shouted at by her and didn’t dare to go near.
So, after repeated discussions, Ethan Sterling and Ruby Sullivan ultimately decided that both perfumes in the Dream series would use only Emma as the spokesperson. Movies could choose not to wait, but Ethan, being the elder brother, was willing to take this risk for his sister.
After making this decision, Ruby Sullivan rewrote the concept and features of "Daydream," along with its target audience, personally held a meeting with PR, and communicated with the advertising company, eventually deciding to recruit amateur models online for the "Daydream" campaign.
"Daydream" is about telling every girl that anyone can have impractical imaginations. Dreaming doesn’t cost anything, and what if the dream comes true?
Ruby Sullivan initially thought she could take it easy after "Daydream" entered the market, but the week’s busyness made her feel like she was being split into several parts, with her brain being divided into multiple sections. Every night, as she lay down, all sorts of things would conflict in her mind, making it impossible for her to fall asleep.
Ethan Sterling noticed and was worried too. He used every fragmented moment to learn various head massages conducive to sleep. After that, Howard never dared to style his hair for work, because whenever the boss thought of it, he would grab his head for a massage.
Dina Finn announced that she was going to hold a grand pre-wedding party. Although the wedding wasn’t particularly festive for Dina, she didn’t want to miss this lively occasion.
Ruby Sullivan also received an invitation, but she was too busy with work and had to decline. Honestly, if she had gone, she was worried she would dampen everyone’s enthusiasm.
In the past, she was somewhat boring, never knowing what the latest designer bags or limited edition shoes looked like. She only cared about whether the soup in soup dumplings was authentic and if there were pests in the basil in the yard.
The day after the party, Ruby Sullivan received many R-rated photos from the party scene, and Naomi Sinclair even called to ask if she regretted not attending.
"We invited a lot of professional guys, you know," Naomi Sinclair boasted over the phone, as if Ruby Sullivan had missed a billion-dollar opportunity by not attending.
Ruby Sullivan was still in the workshop when she took the call, so she politely smiled and wasn’t really interested in continuing the conversation.
Naomi Sinclair ran out of things to say, "I sent Leon Sterling an invitation to Dina’s wedding, and he said he would attend."
"Well... congratulations," Ruby Sullivan was a bit surprised by Leon Sterling’s decision, but she felt there was more to it, so she couldn’t think of anything else to say.
Naomi Sinclair chuckled foolishly, "Do you think there’s a chance for me and him?"
"Maybe,"
"By the way, he said he’s already back in the country. Do you have time in the next couple of days? I could come over to visit," Naomi Sinclair said, raising her eyebrows, as if Ruby Sullivan could see her eyes suggestively through the call.
Ruby Sullivan was even more surprised, "He’s... not home."
Naomi Sinclair paused for a moment, then became even more excited, "You mean he’s staying at a hotel now? It would be too easy for me to find him, right? Imagine... he comes back to his room and sees a bathing beauty who stumbled into the wrong room just after taking a shower. Wouldn’t he be pleasantly surprised?" She was already envisioning all sorts of scandalous scenarios.
Listening to her increasingly absurd description, Ruby Sullivan suspected Naomi had had too much fun at Dina’s pre-wedding party and lost her mind. "I think you should calm down. I have to work. See you at the wedding." She said, then hung up the phone.
However, the fact that Leon Sterling hadn’t returned home did bother her somewhat, so she didn’t mention it to Ethan Sterling.
The next day was Dina’s wedding. Ruby Sullivan made a point to go home early, hoping for a good night’s sleep to avoid needing thick foundation to cover dark circles the next day.
She took a shower early, put the two little ones to bed, and then went to bed herself.
For Ruby Sullivan, the only way to overcome sleep issues was to read some obscure professional books. Keeping up with the latest materials was part of her job, so although it was a bit dull, it wasn’t too hard to accept.
However, she hadn’t been in bed long before Ethan Sterling joined her in the room.
Since she had been so busy recently, she mostly just slept when she got home. She hadn’t had much conscious interaction with Ethan Sterling. Seeing him come back to the room so early now made Ruby Sullivan a bit uncomfortable, but also hesitant to chase him away.
"I... plan to go to sleep early today."
"I know." Ethan Sterling looked at her with a smile of smugness on his face.
Ruby Sullivan frowned slightly, feeling that his expression portended something bad. "What’s up with you?" She instinctively held the book in front of her, already on guard.
Seeing her cautious demeanor, Ethan Sterling seemed helpless. He let his raised hand fall again, "You don’t have to be so tense; I’m no monster."
"I’m an atheist, so to me, no monster is scarier than you," Ruby Sullivan retorted mercilessly, still watching him warily.
Ethan Sterling sighed and gestured for her to lie down, "Come lie down, and you’ll see."
"Ethan Sterling, you remember we’ve divorced, right?"
"It’s etched in my heart."
Ruby Sullivan looked at his face, on the verge of tears yet unable to cry, and after a moment’s stalemate, she put down her book, scooted over, and lay down as he had instructed, "What exactly do you want to do?"
She looked up at his chin, having the feeling of being in a beautician’s chair.
Ethan Sterling sat on a stool pulled up to the bed, squinted his eyes with a smile, stretched his fingers a bit, "I’m giving you a massage," he said, pressing down on her head.
Ruby Sullivan was too shocked to speak. Ethan Sterling giving her a massage? She must be daydreaming!
But the pressure on her head was very real, and... somewhat pleasant.
"Miss, is the pressure alright?" Ethan Sterling glanced down at her, a bit nervous himself. After all the time he spent preparing and ruffling Howard’s hair countless times, if he were to face rejection now...
"It’s quite good." Ruby Sullivan, not comfortable with his enlarged nostrils, closed her eyes, and a small smile appeared on her lips.
