Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 193: Blow-Drying Hair
After Ruby Sullivan got out of the car, she stood outside for a few minutes in the cold wind to clear her mind before going in.
It was long past the children’s usual bedtime, but Ruby couldn’t rest easy about her son, so she forced herself to stay awake, even if it was just to take a look at him without saying anything.
As Ruby expected, even though Seth Sterling was forced to bed, he wasn’t in a deep sleep. As soon as she opened the door and went in, he opened his eyes.
"Mom!" Seth was overjoyed, sitting up, "Are you just getting off work?"
She nodded, looking at her son with a mix of helplessness and heartache, "Mom’s really been a bit busy recently." She ruffled his hair.
"I know." Seth could see his mother’s fatigue, "Did you go see Honey yet? She misses you a lot. She wanted Vivian to take us to your office today, but got a scolding from Dad over the phone and finally behaved."
Ruby was a bit surprised, "Your sister got scolded?"
Seeing his mom worried, Seth felt he might have misspoken, "Actually, Honey is very sensible, but some things need to be explained to her slowly."
Ruby thought for a moment. Compared to Seth, Honey indeed was a bit more willful. However, she still felt her daughter’s willfulness was within an acceptable range. "Okay, let’s not talk about your sister. I’ll see her in a bit." She held Seth’s hand, "What about you, do you have anything you want to say to Mom?"
She rubbed her son’s small hand, causing Seth to take a quick breath.
"What’s wrong?" Ruby was puzzled.
"Nothing." Seth withdrew his hand, shaking his head.
The room was only lit by the bedside lamp, with not enough light to see the bruises on Seth’s hand.
Before taking up boxing, the most exercise Seth did was walking from the first to the second floor of the house. He rarely did any intense running, being one of the very few quiet, handsome boys. After having a sister, he was even less hurried about things.
So he had a tough first day but wanted to learn real skills with the coach; he never complained.
"Dad says, ’A man bleeds and sweats but doesn’t shed tears.’" He smiled.
Ruby sighed, "Seth, you’re only four years old. There’s no need to force yourself to be a man. Just being a good little boy is enough. If you face difficulties, you can talk to Mom and Dad or ask us for help, okay?"
Seth nodded, "Mom, I’m really fine." He made a small fist, "I’m actually a bit happy. Dad says using violence to curb violence isn’t good, but in many cases, it can protect oneself and those you want to protect. To become strong, it’s not just about having a clever mind; you also need a strong body and a resilient will."
For a moment, Ruby didn’t know how to respond, slightly worried that Ethan Sterling was molding their son into a warrior. But she guessed boys tend to idolize their dad more, and after experiencing some unpleasantness, Seth probably found some truth in his father’s words.
As his mom, it’s not her place to casually dismiss Daddy’s teachings in front of their child. Ruby paused, deciding to discuss it with Ethan later that night.
She gently hugged her son’s neck, touching foreheads with him, "Mom is most worried when you’re unhappy. Since you say this, Mom is reassured. I love you, son."
Seth beamed, "I love you too, Mom."
"Alright, now quickly get to sleep. I hope you and Honey can adjust to the time difference soon, as we might stay in the country for a while." Ruby said, helping him lie down and tucking him in.
Ruby left her son’s room and went to her daughter’s room. Seeing Honey was already asleep, she tiptoed out quietly.
Not finding Ethan in the room, she picked out some clothes and went down to the bathroom for a shower. Just as she was drying off, Ethan knocked on the door.
She frowned, "What?"
"Can I come in?" Ethan was rather polite.
Ruby hurriedly put on her pajamas, not wanting this man to think she was trying to entice him by being undressed.
She watched cautiously as Ethan opened the door and came in, "Is there something you need?"
He squinted exaggeratedly in a smile, taking down the hairdryer from the wall, "Yes, I’m here to help dry your hair." He said, moving behind Ruby to take the towel off her head.
For a moment, Ruby was dumbfounded, looking at the considerate man in the mirror, "Offering your services for no reason is either crafty or a thief, what’s your agenda?"
Ethan’s eyes widened in surprise, "You could guess that? Impressive!"
"Mr. Sterling, that was a bit much." Ruby raised an eyebrow, thinking that the title ’Mr. Sterling’ suited him well.
"Ms. Sullivan, I’ve upset our daughter, it’s a bit of a tricky situation." Ethan said helplessly.
Thinking of what Seth said, Ruby smugly sat on the stool, "Dry my hair, and I’ll take care of it for you."
"Deal."
Ethan began drying her hair, gently massaging her scalp with his fingers, smiling at the reflection of her enjoying it with her eyes closed.
Ruby didn’t expect Ethan to be so good at it, feeling her whole body relax. She yawned several times, almost ready to sleep.
So when she returned to the room, she fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow. Only upon waking did she remember she hadn’t discussed their son’s education issue with him.
Seeing her staring blankly, Ethan turned off the alarm, lying on his side, waving a hand in front of her, "What are you thinking?"
Ruby, slow to react, replied, "I think you’re too harsh on our son, which isn’t good. Also, our daughter wanted to visit me at work; you should have let her come. Why be harsh with her?"
Scolding their daughter, Ruby clarified her thoughts and bounced up from the bed, looking down at him with a "you’re facing impeachment" expression. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Ethan, catching up with her reaction, felt wronged, "Who said yesterday she would take care of our daughter’s issues?"
Ruby snorted, getting out of bed, reluctant to acknowledge it, "I was too tired yesterday, falling for your sugar-coated cannonballs. Today I see it clearly, how could you scold our daughter? Go apologize to her yourself, I’m siding with my daughter."
Watching her chic stride to the wardrobe to find clothes, Ethan couldn’t help but laugh out loud, "Ruby Sullivan, so you can be unreasonable too?"
Ruby, fixing her long hair, marched out confidently to confront him, "How could someone as reasonable as me be unreasonable? Right now, reason is on our daughter’s side."
Ethan yawned, getting up from the bed, resignedly saying, "Alright, alright, you’re right, our daughter is right, I was wrong."
"That’s more like it." Ruby got dressed and left, feeling there’s time to see her daughter this morning. She hadn’t heard her daughter sweetly call "Mom" for a long time, and she missed her dearly.
She left the room as her daughter came out of the bathroom with Mama Bennett.
Now Honey washes her face and brushes her teeth on her own, but to prevent accidents, Mama Bennett always accompanies her.
