Chapter 184: Chapter 184: Secretly Angry

"The coffee is pretty good." Ruby Sullivan sat on the sofa, her legs slightly angled to the side, adopting a pretentious, ladylike posture. As she spoke, she slightly lifted her eyelids, with her eyebrows and lips hinting at a sense of pride.

In the past, she never imagined the day would come when the high and mighty Ethan Sterling would make her coffee. If that wasn’t something to be proud of, she would certainly be wagging her tail if the coffee grounds were hand-ground.

Ruby took another sip of her coffee, and thought the sunshine was nice this morning, the weather was nice, and her mood was just as pleasant.

Ethan Sterling looked at the smug expression written all over her face, and his gaze finally landed on her pink lips stained with coffee, and he smiled, "Thanks for the compliment."

Seeing that he wasn’t angry, Ruby felt a bit bored, raising an eyebrow, "I heard that my mentor has been meeting Aidan Sinclair frequently lately, and there have been many rumors in the industry. Is your trip to Meridia for this?"

Technically, she shouldn’t be asking about these matters now, but all the news pointed to Dr. L and Aidan Sinclair, while the previously high-profile former president of The Sullivan Group, Rhonda Sullivan, had seemingly vanished.

Knowing Ethan Sterling’s personality, since he already knew the child in Rhonda Sullivan’s belly wasn’t his, it’s not even about marrying her—if he didn’t make her life unbearable, that would be a mercy. So, Ruby wasn’t worried at all that woman would live better than her. However, with no news whatsoever, she couldn’t help but feel a bit curious.

Women, after all, are like this. Even knowing ignorance is bliss, some things just can’t be left in the dark.

Ethan Sterling was also quite interested in this topic, though he ignored her question and instead asked, "Where did you hear that? Don’t tell me L told you this directly?"

He never forgot about L trying to take his wife away. But that man was perhaps too arrogant—raising such a treasure baby and thinking it would be so easy to take him back?

Ruby knew this man habitually wanted to fish for information from her. She’s been in this circle for years, and there are ways to get reliable news. But knowing what he really wanted from her question, she didn’t say any nonsense.

She placed her empty cup down calmly and said, "I’m not sure whether my mentor knows about our divorce, but I didn’t tell him. Of course, that includes my coming to Meridia. Secondly, after Naomi Sinclair’s birthday party, I haven’t seen or spoken to my mentor. Lastly, The Lawson Group has indeed shown interest in having me back, but since my departure from The Sterling Group hasn’t been made public, I won’t consider new opportunities, at least not before Daydream’s successful launch. Until then, no harmful news about The Sterling Group will come from me."

Ethan Sterling frowned, really a bit upset, "Who’s discussing The Sterling Group with you?" In this woman’s eyes, he wondered, was she only concerned about The Sterling Group?

Ruby was taken aback, not understanding the reason.

"I’m not worried about anyone poaching you. You working at The Sterling Group is just an added bonus, not a necessity. So without you, my company will continue as is. If a giant like The Sterling Group collapses because one perfumer leaves, it would have fallen long ago." Ethan said, fuming, glaring at her, wondering if he should say what was on his mind. Suddenly, he stood up from the sofa.

His demeanor was quite intimidating, making Ruby instinctively a bit nervous, "What are you doing?"

Ethan rolled his eyes at her, "What do you think I’m doing?" With that, he bent down to pick up her coffee cup, angrily heading to the sink to wash it.

He was already seething inside, this foolish woman, what he most wanted to know was if L had tried to seduce her again!

Whether L was opposing The Sterling Group specifically for Rhonda Sullivan was unknown to him, but that man definitely had inappropriate intentions towards Ruby. They were both men, he wouldn’t mistake this!

This foolish woman, foolish woman!

The Ruby on the sofa had no clue about the inner drama of Young Master Sterling. She just tilted her head, feeling she didn’t quite understand this man. In her mind, how could Ethan Sterling be washing dishes? Moreover, he took her cup to wash.

She averted her gaze, feeling a sudden pain in her heart.

He did these things only to repay her for the hurt he caused her. But how could such matters ever be adequately compensated?

Once Mama Bennett returned, they headed off to the hospital.

However, Ethan Sterling still seemed to be in a huff, as if wearing a mask void of any smile, his left cheek stern and his right cheek solemn.

Ruby took several glances at him but ultimately couldn’t ignore it, "Mr. Sterling, may I ask why you are angry?"

"I’m not angry." Ethan instantly replied while driving, though even his stiff tone carried emotion.

Ruby squinted at his profile, too lazy to inquire further, and mimicked his annoyed tone, "I don’t want my dad to see your sour face. If you don’t want to come, you could have refused."

"You foolish woman, if I didn’t want to come, I wouldn’t have said I’d come with you." Ethan’s voice was raised by eight octaves.

Ruby blinked her eyes, "So who are you keeping that face for?"

"Of course, it’s for you. Who else could it be? Am I showing it to Mama Bennett?" Ethan exhaled a long breath in exasperation.

"Why?"

"Why?" Ethan pouted and slanted his lips to one side, unable to say it out loud. What if L hadn’t said anything? What if Ruby hadn’t noticed anything? As it turned out, even though this woman had upgraded to version 2.0, she didn’t seem to have gotten much smarter.

He refused to be so foolish as to confess on someone else’s behalf.

Ethan took a deep breath, trying to quell his anger, turned his head with some effort, raised the corners of his mouth, and squinted his eyes, "How’s this face?"

Ruby was dumbfounded, as if she saw a clown without makeup, yet inherently comedic. She couldn’t help but burst into laughter, covering her mouth to compose herself, nodding, "It’s fine, it’s fine..."

Ethan glanced sideways at her struggling to hold her laughter, magnanimously saying, "Laugh if you want, don’t hold it in."

"I never thought the infamously serious Mr. Sterling had a talent for comedy," Ruby teased.

Ethan raised an eyebrow, "There’s a lot you don’t know, and besides, what CEO isn’t serious? I am known for my good looks."

"Haha, you’re right, you’re right." Ruby couldn’t help but burst into laughter at his self-absorbed boast, utterly forgetting their previous bickering.

Ethan watched her lost in laughter and couldn’t help but chuckle himself. Turns out, this person loves to laugh so much—clearly, there’s so much he doesn’t know about her too.

The awkward atmosphere between the two was completely dispelled. Once the car was parked at the hospital, Ruby suddenly recalled something important, "Well, I haven’t told my dad about the divorce."

The doctor had suggested sharing more positive things to boost the patient’s will to live, so Ruby withheld all the bad news because she didn’t want to think about them herself.

Ethan saw the earnest look in her eyes and seemed somewhat embarrassed, offering a slight smile, giving her hair a rub, "Got it, let’s go." With that, he unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the car.

Ruby blinked emptily, and when she came back to her senses, she was the only one left in the car. Her face became warm, cheeks puffed up, round and full.
