Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 182: The Ex-Husband Arrives
Ruby Sullivan raised her eyes and saw Ethan Sterling standing up from the sofa, stunned for a moment, "Why are you here?" They had just spoken on the phone last night... Was he at the airport during the call?
Seth Sterling, who was changing his shoes behind, saw Ethan and was also a bit happy, "Dad!"
Ethan looked at him and nodded, even though they hadn’t seen each other for a long time, he was still as indifferent as before. He looked at Ruby Sullivan and explained, "I have some work to handle."
Honey seemed particularly happy due to her dad’s sudden appearance, forgetting to ask where her brother and mom had spent the whole day, dragged her brother’s hand and walked into the room, "Dad brought us lots of gifts and the latest Lego, you will definitely like them."
"Mm." Seth turned his head to glance at his dad but still followed Honey.
"Seth’s interview went smoothly today, and he can go to school tomorrow." Ruby Sullivan said this piece of good news while taking off her coat and hanging it up, but seeing he didn’t show much emotion, she reminded him, "He was very happy today, I think you should congratulate him."
Ethan slightly frowned, "Does an elementary school interview take a whole day?"
Ruby Sullivan was a bit disheartened by his serious face, tilted her head and looked in the direction of Honey’s room, and whispered, "It ended in the morning. It’s just that I rarely go out alone with my son, so we went to celebrate a bit. We had a feast at a Michelin restaurant, then watched a movie, and went to a particularly interesting car-themed restaurant in the evening; their handmade ice cream is especially delicious."
Ruby Sullivan spoke every word softly, fearing Honey inside might hear and cause a fuss.
To be honest, bringing two four-year-olds out alone, even with Seth being sensible, is a huge challenge, especially since Honey can’t tolerate any surprises.
She finished speaking and sat down, "You came at the right time, I have something I want to talk to you about, but..." She thought for a moment and brought it up again, "I still think you should go and congratulate Seth first."
Ethan could see Ruby Sullivan was in a great mood, so good that the smile on her face seemed to glow, even in a way he had never seen before, but her good state made him feel somewhat depressed, he couldn’t say why, overall, just unhappy.
"Mm." He mumbled a response and got up to find the two kids.
Mama Bennett brought out fruit from the kitchen and said softly, "When you called home tonight, sir was already here. He must have feared you couldn’t enjoy yourselves if you knew, so he didn’t let me tell you he was here and kept sweet-talking Honey. If not for him, the little girl’s mouth would probably pout to the sky."
Ruby Sullivan sat down and poured a cup of water, remaining silent for a while.
They were already divorced, and no matter what, Ethan Sterling’s sudden appearance without notice shouldn’t be a happy thing for her, but she couldn’t deny the fact that the kids really missed him.
And her, does she miss him?
She came to Meridia, aside from the reason of her father, wasn’t it to get away from him?
*
Inside the house, Honey happily introduced the gifts dad brought to her brother, then suddenly looked slyly at him, asking, "Brother, did you and mom go eat something delicious without me?"
When they left in the morning, Honey asked about the time, so why hadn’t they returned home when she came back from kindergarten?
"No..." Seth’s mind jumped to the exquisite dishes at the Michelin restaurant, reluctantly saying, "Mom just happened to want to buy something, so it delayed the time."
Honey didn’t doubt her brother’s words at all, "I see, then let’s have a big meal together this weekend, since dad is here, let’s go out as a family." She grinned, exposing a row of little white teeth.
"Mm." Seth agreed, yet felt a bit guilty for deceiving his sister.
Ethan Sterling chimed in appropriately, "Dad wants to stay here tonight, but I’m afraid mom won’t agree. Honey, could you help dad out?"
He squatted down, looking at Honey, hoping to get his daughter’s support.
Even though Honey didn’t understand why mom wouldn’t let dad stay, she was eager to help dad solve the problem, "How can I help?"
Ethan leaned toward her ear and instructed her with a series of remarks, "In short, you need to make mom feel you really want dad to stay. You must make sure mom agrees, alright?"
Honey smiled, "I promise to complete the task." She raised her little chubby hand, saluted not so perfectly, then happily ran out.
In the room, only dad and son remained, which was actually the real intention behind Ethan Sterling sending the daughter out.
"Congratulations on passing the interview." Ethan Sterling wasn’t very skilled at this kind of conversation; after speaking, he stretched out his hand like a work report.
Seth looked at dad’s gesture and was quite pleased, happily shaking it, "Thank you."
Ethan watched the same indifferent look on his son’s face, glanced at his own hand, suddenly felt a little uneasy, and after thinking for a while said, "Maybe a handshake isn’t quite the right move? How about this?" He tried extending his fist.
Seth looked at his hand, hesitated for a moment, then clasped his own small fist and bumped it, suddenly mimicking Baymax, he wiggled his fingers upward, "Ba-la-la-la~" After doing it, he grinned foolishly, his cheeks heating up quickly, "I saw this in a movie."
Ethan also laughed, "Mm, nice, this feels more like father and son."
During these days, he had thought a lot, when young, he was left by his mom, grown-up, left by Ruby Sullivan, even the son he raised from a young age chose to go with a new mom he didn’t spend long time with, why did people around him always want to leave him, and only people like Rhonda Sullivan with obvious motives wanted to be near him?
Perhaps, the problem lies with him.
Father and son sat side by side on Seth’s small bed, Ethan Sterling raised his hand to place it on his son’s shoulder, "Seth, do you feel that dad doesn’t love you enough and that’s why you want to leave?"
Seth shook his head, "I’m afraid of being a burden to you. Vivian said you’re not going to marry Mrs. Sullivan, then what about the baby she’s carrying? What will happen to the child?"
Ethan suddenly realized he seemed to be too harsh on this child. Such harshness made him, like himself, mature too early, worrying about many things that shouldn’t concern him.
"The child Mrs. Sullivan is carrying is not mine, I only learned about it later, but... it’s too late. I wanted to use her child to save Honey, now..." Ethan hugged his son and sighed.
Upon hearing the matter about Honey, Seth also sighed, "Sister’s mood has been very good recently." He said this stubbornly, as if to comfort dad, and also to deceptively convince himself.
"That’s good." Ethan forced a smile.
Seth pursed his lips, whispered, "If dad isn’t going to marry Mrs. Sullivan, will he reconcile with mom?"
Ethan thought for a while, feeling he shouldn’t hide this from his son, "I have that thought."
"Then, good luck." Seth also didn’t know what to say, actually not understanding, if Mrs. Sullivan’s child wasn’t dad’s, then why did mom and dad separate.
"Dad will work on it." Ethan smiled, glanced at Seth’s self-reflective look, deliberately messed up his hair, "Little brat."
"Hey." Seth jumped off the bed with disgust, his facial features wrinkled into buns, looking at dad’s gleeful expression, couldn’t help but laugh along.
Ruby Sullivan led Honey to stand in the hallway, hearing the laughter between father and son, her expression slightly eased, but regarding using her daughter as a spokesperson, she still planned to discuss this properly with her ex-husband.
