Chapter 172: Chapter 172: Enrollment Turmoil

When Ruby Sullivan saw Mama Bennett, she practically cried tears of joy. No matter how well she knew the other servants, none could match the care Mama Bennett provided for them.

She quickly called Honey and Seth out, pulling Mama Bennett to sit down on the sofa.

"Before I left, Sir talked to me about this. My husband died early, and we didn’t have children. I used to treat you and the young lady as my own kids. Now, I can’t bear to leave Honey and Seth," Mama Bennett said as she took a sip of water, looking happy to see both Ruby and the children.

Because the passport took some time, she could only come later. If Ruby hadn’t called, Howard would have forced a servant on her.

The only inconvenience for Mama Bennett here was not understanding English, but luckily the children’s English was good. Before she went abroad, Howard bought her the most advanced simultaneous translation device, so basic communication shouldn’t be a problem.

Although it was just having Mama Bennett, Ruby felt like life had become several times warmer. After putting the kids to bed at night, she could watch some TV shows with Mama Bennett.

She didn’t know what having a real mom would be like, but she imagined it would feel pretty much like her current life.

A few days later, Ruby took the children to register for kindergarten.

Although a lot of materials were required, once they submitted them, they were immediately approved. The final step was the principal interviewing the children. Honey and Seth were taken separately, and parents weren’t allowed to be present.

Before going in, Honey was a bit timid but came out smiling soon after. On the other hand, Seth spent a long time in the principal’s office.

After thirty minutes, Ruby and Honey were getting restless in the waiting room, just about to check on things, when they saw Seth pushing the door open and coming out.

Seeing Ruby’s anxious face, he was slightly startled and smiled, "Mom, the principal wants you to come in for a moment."

"Okay." Ruby held her son’s hand, her expression calm despite the nervousness inside.

Due to Honey’s health, Ruby had been worried that the kindergarten might reject her, but after the principal reviewed Honey’s profile, he directly informed her that Ethan Sterling had already communicated with them in advance. As long as Ruby signed a waiver, it would ensure that the school wouldn’t be responsible for any issues Honey might face due to her health.

Could Seth’s admission be a problem?

Upon entering the office, the principal greeted her with a smile and started praising Seth’s intelligence, before showing her a flyer.

It was an admissions poster for a nearby elementary school. The principal mentioned that he was friends with the principal there, so when he saw such an intelligent child like Seth, he couldn’t help but recommend it to the parents. Although Seth was actually only a little over four years old, if he could pass their entrance exam and interview, there was a great chance for special admission.

Ruby also felt that considering Seth’s current situation, attending kindergarten seemed a bit of a waste of time.

According to his previous teacher, while the kids played, Seth would often sit by himself reading books, which was why Honey was his only naturally close friend. If he could be with older kids, he might even make like-minded friends.

After the principal finished, he blinked at the downcast Seth, saying, "Although Seth has already declined my suggestion, I hope you can persuade him. If there are no issues, the school’s term starts next Monday. We welcome your presence."

The principal stood up and shook hands with Ruby, his plump belly making him look all the more endearing and cute.

Ruby thanked the principal with a smile and upon leaving the office, she saw Seth with his head down as if he was deep in thought, so she didn’t rush to discuss it with him.

On the way home, the siblings in the back discussed scenes from a cartoon, mainly with Honey asking endless questions and Seth patiently answering.

Once home, Ruby gave Honey some cherries, saying she needed to talk to her brother, but Honey wasn’t willing to just watch cartoons by herself. Instead, she sat with Seth on the sofa, curious about what their mom would discuss with her brother.

Such curiosity at a young age made Ruby a bit helpless.

However, there was no need to hide it from her, and so Ruby agreed.

Seth seemed to know what his mom wanted to talk about, keeping his head down and avoiding her gaze.

Ruby placed the Concord Elementary school flyer on the table, "Seth, can you tell Mom if you don’t want to go to elementary school so soon, or if you just don’t want to go to this particular school?" In fact, even if Seth agreed, she would still investigate the elementary school before making a decision.

When they were living with The Sterling Family, she didn’t have the mind to consider Seth’s matters, but now that her son chose to be with her, she couldn’t continue avoiding these responsibilities.

Honey picked up the flyer, exclaiming, "Wow, this school is so beautiful, Mom, can I go to this school?"

"You’re not old enough yet, you’ll have to wait a couple of years," Ruby explained, ruffling her hair.

Honey looked at her silent brother with some confusion, "Then why can’t we just wait two more years and go together? Why does Mom need to know now what Seth thinks?"

"Because your brother is much smarter than kids his age, and he’s learned more. He needs such a school to learn more things."

"Wow, brother, you’re amazing. But if you go to elementary school, you’ll have to be apart from Honey." Honey gazed at her brother admiringly, playfully wrapping her arm around his, but seeing that he didn’t seem happy at all, she withdrew her smile, "Brother, what’s wrong? If you don’t want to go, just tell Mom."

Seth’s fair little forehead wrinkled into two small bumps. Even though he was worried, he looked irresistibly cute.

He got off the sofa, still avoiding looking at Ruby, and quietly said, "Mom, can I have some time to think about it?"

Ruby nodded but held his hand, "Before you leave, can you listen to Honey’s thoughts first?"

Seth was taken aback, then nodded slightly.

Honey, with wide eyes and a look of confusion, pointed to herself and asked, "You mean me?"

"Yes, you, my little silly," Ruby smiled at her exaggerated expression, lifting her onto her lap, softly asking, "If your brother goes to elementary school and you go to kindergarten alone, would you be unhappy?"

Honey scrunched her eyebrows, thinking seriously before saying, "Of course, I want to go to school with my brother, but I know he enjoys studying more than I do and should go to elementary school." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

Seth clenched his fists, mumbling, "Going to elementary school next year would be the same!" After that, he angrily went to his room and locked the door.

Honey worriedly looked in the direction he left and asked, "What’s wrong with brother?"

Ruby sighed, "I guess your brother doesn’t feel comfortable with you going to kindergarten alone."

Honey thought about it, even more puzzled, "Wasn’t I going to kindergarten by myself before I had a brother?"

Ruby smiled, "Then why don’t you go tell your brother that?" She placed her daughter down from her lap, thinking she should start researching these elementary schools ahead of time.
