Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 148: Listening to You
Honey said that if she pushed the swing ten times, she could ask a question, and Naomi Sinclair generously offered to push eleven times.
But Honey’s mind doesn’t work all that well, and her ability to express herself isn’t great either. You couldn’t get earth-shattering news out of her, but at most, you could be sure that these days, Uncle Don had been getting quite close to Vivian.
Naomi Sinclair sat down on the swing as well, her long legs almost touching the ground, gently swaying as she took out her phone to call Aidan Sinclair, "Big brother, do you know why the old man refuses to be discharged from the hospital?"
"He says the hospital food is delicious, and there’s no fun at home." Aidan didn’t know why his sister suddenly cared about their dad, but after thinking for a moment, he said, "Don’t worry, I talked to his attending doctor. He’s in great health, no problems at all."
"Right, so good that he’s looking for a new mom for us." Naomi snorted.
"What?" Aidan was so shocked he dropped his pen, "Are you sure?"
"Yeah, pretty sure. Do you want me to mess it up for him, or should I just pretend I didn’t see anything? But this time it’s not some twenty-year-old wild thing. Although she looks young, I guess her age is about the same as his."
Aidan Sinclair was even more incredulous upon hearing this, "Dad’s changed his ways?"
"Who knows? Anyway, I’m listening to you."
"Where are you?"
"At Ethan Sterling’s house, Wenny invited us for dinner today."
Aidan Sinclair was puzzled, "Where did you see Dad then?"
"Right here, he’s got his eyes on Ethan Sterling’s mom this time."
"..." Aidan couldn’t say anything for a while. Was their Sinclair family cursed? Just days ago, they had to work overtime for a week in public relations because of his sister chasing Ethan Sterling, and now their father was interested in his mom.
Aidan sighed heavily, "You aren’t still interested in Ethan Sterling, are you?"
"No, I’m now good friends with his wife. Friends’ spouses are off-limits, I’m a person of principle."
Friends’ spouses... Aidan was speechless again. After thinking for a moment, he said, "Then go enjoy your meal for now; I’ll handle Dad."
"Alright." Naomi agreed cheerfully, "Then I’ll go with the flow." She hung up the phone, grinning slyly.
Aidan dropped his head in frustration, wasn’t she supposed to be listening to him?
He leaned back in his chair, feeling a headache coming on. The collaboration with The Lawson Group was almost ready, just shy of a public signing ceremony, but now there’s a snag with The Lawson Group’s cash flow, forcing the postponement of their deal.
Of course, he would conduct a covert investigation in such matters, and recognizing the familiar modus operandi, even without evidence, he knew who was messing around. The Sinclair Group had been laying the groundwork for working with The Lawson Group for quite some time, and they had maintained excellent confidentiality. If Ethan Sterling had gotten wind and approached Naomi for help, it was either brave or foolish.
He wasn’t sure if Ethan knew, but he was certain his silly sister had no clue she’d stirred up trouble in her brother’s business.
Aidan sighed again, hoping his dad’s outlandish actions this time weren’t also falling into someone else’s trap.
*
Ruby Sullivan was worried that the Sinclair father and daughter might cause some trouble at home, so after some thought, she decided that the two kids were less reliable than Don, who was helping in the kitchen.
"Don, can you do me a favor?" she leaned in beside him.
Don was preparing a fruit platter, "What is it?"
"Um..." Ruby hesitated, thinking he probably wouldn’t want to, saying a bit unsurely, "Can you look after Naomi Sinclair?"
Don paused and looked at her with a pitiful expression, "If I say I’m not good at chatting with girls, would you think I’m just making excuses?"
Ruby laughed, thinking his statement meant there was hope, "It’s okay, she can handle it, and she likes handsome guys. She looked at you several times when she greeted you earlier, I saw it."
Don frowned, "Why does your expression seem a bit odd?"
Ruby giggled foolishly, "Naomi Sinclair is notorious for collecting handsome men, supposedly with a passion that lasts about three minutes, falling for one after another. I feel like sending you over is like sending a bunny to a wolf’s den."
Don pursed his lips, not quite liking the bunny analogy, "Alright, I don’t feel like arguing with you, but you owe me one."
"Okay." Ruby thought he was joking and agreed, without giving it any further thought.
Don went out to the garden, greeted Vivian and Uncle Don, then walked toward Naomi Sinclair.
Naomi wasn’t expecting Ethan Sterling to have such a handsome brother. Even though he was a different type than Ethan, as long as a man had good looks, he’d match her tastes!
"Uncle Don!" Honey called to him with a smile.
Don smiled at Honey, "Seth, Honey’s all sweaty, take her inside to clean up, don’t let her catch a cold."
"Alright." Seth immediately took Honey away, giving the adults some space.
Naomi lightly swayed on the swing, showing a broad smile, "Hey, is it almost time to eat?"
"All the ingredients are ready, but it’ll probably take about another hour and a half. There are a lot of dishes today," Don sat on another swing, jokingly saying, "I’ve been assigned to entertain the guests."
Naomi chuckled softly, "Always ready to help?"
"Within moral grounds, without affecting principles, I’ll try to accommodate," Don answered seriously, although he wore a smile, he was somewhat apprehensive about her ’handsome men collector’ reputation. It wasn’t that he feared what might happen to him, he just worried he might inadvertently offend her.
It’s rumored this person is important to The Sterling Group. He didn’t care for The Sterling Group, but at this stage, Ruby Sullivan did, as The Sullivan Group had to rely on The Sterling Group to survive. Her influence in The Sullivan Group was granted by The Sterling Group, so The Sterling Group certainly couldn’t afford to have problems now.
"Then can you push the swing for me? Seth kept pushing Honey earlier, and I felt a little envious," she said with a shy laugh.
Seth had offered to push her too, but for a four-year-old kid to push her on a swing seemed a bit absurd to her.
Don smiled and got off his swing right away, giving her swing gentle pushes.
Naomi tilted her head, looking at him, and felt like staring at this face took her back to her school days. The air even seemed fresher than before, "Well..." She suddenly felt shy, "Can we exchange phone numbers?"
"Uh..." Don hesitated for a moment and apologized, "That’s not within the range of services provided here."
With a crack, the beautiful vision before Naomi shattered to pieces. She wrinkled her nose, made a sound of discontent, and jumped off the swing, "Forget it, I’m going to find Wenny."
Don watched her leaving, feeling a headache coming on, as if he had doomed the task Ruby gave him, performing worse than Seth. With that thought, he quickly chased after her.
Vivian and Uncle Don were watching the two young people walk by in succession. Vivian, quite interested, remarked with a smile, "My foolish son seems to have upset your girl."
"Mm." Uncle Don nodded, not really processing what she said. Ever since he saw Naomi, he had been thinking of reasons to leave, but now, leaving made him even more uneasy, worried that Naomi’s mouth might just say whatever it felt like.
As Uncle Don thought about it, he sighed again.
Vivian glanced at him and couldn’t help but frown.
