Chapter 129: Chapter 129: Like a Source of Support

Ruby Sullivan almost reflexively threw off the covers and got out of bed. From the sound, she could tell something was wrong. She didn’t even have her slippers on properly and almost tripped over herself after a few steps. Fortunately, Ethan Sterling, who had followed, grabbed her in time.

Ethan Sterling was barefoot, holding her arm tightly with one hand, and reassured her, "Don’t worry yet, it might just be a nightmare." His shoes were on the other side by the door. Seeing Ruby get out of bed, he paused for just a moment before following her down.

Ruby Sullivan’s heart was in her throat. The sudden anxiety made it impossible for her not to worry, but after listening to Ethan’s words, she hoped she was just being unnecessarily anxious.

Then she pulled the door open and saw Honey standing at the door, holding a napkin against her nose with one hand and awkwardly hanging her other hand by her side, her head slightly lowered and at a loss.

"Mom, I have a nosebleed." She tried hard to speak clearly and not to cry, but she was very scared inside because she didn’t know what was wrong with her, and she felt uncomfortable all over.

Just a moment ago, Ruby Sullivan was so anxious she could barely walk. At this moment, seeing her daughter, she became incredibly calm.

Perhaps because she had encountered a similar situation before, or maybe because she had rehearsed countless times in her mind how to respond to such an emergency, Ruby became not the least bit flustered and methodically arranged everything.

She had Ethan Sterling immediately contact Dr. Lawson while she performed a simple procedure to stop Honey’s bleeding. Then she took out two sets of casual clothing from the closet because going to the hospital dressed formally would set aside comfort, not to mention how long it would take to button up Ethan’s shirt—too much time wasted.

This time the surgery was very smooth, and it took less than two hours for Honey’s bleeding to stop.

Dr. Lawson also provided Honey’s final deadline. From the current situation, at most, in a year, Honey’s condition would be hard to control with medication. If it got to the point of internal bleeding, even finding a suitable marrow would be useless.

After stopping the bleeding, Honey was still in constant life-threatening danger, so she had to stay in the ICU temporarily for observation.

After the doctor left, Ruby Sullivan and Ethan Sterling stood silently in the corridor for quite some time, not knowing what to say or what could be said.

Because it was Ethan Sterling’s personal property, after consulting his needs, the hospital arranged a VIP room right away, located on the top floor of the inpatient department, fully equipped, even more so than the average hotel.

Finally, Ethan Sterling broke the silence. He walked a few steps forward and gently hugged her, "Come on, let’s go rest a bit so that we have the energy when she wakes up."

Ruby Sullivan was silent for a few seconds, slowly leaning against him and quietly asked, "Can I call Don now?"

Ethan Sterling let out a long sigh.

He wanted to say no, but he couldn’t bring himself to say it, "I’ll call."

After they entered the VIP ward with a nurse, Ethan Sterling immediately called Leon Sterling. He was still in Novaniel, looking for a small pub that had been recommended by a friend to settle his dinner.

"Honey’s condition has worsened. Can you come back to do a bone marrow match?" Ethan Sterling’s voice was low, sounding calm, but the unintentional sigh at the end revealed he was pleading.

Asking others for a favor was truly the last thing Ethan Sterling wanted to do, and he was very unfamiliar with this kind of attitude.

Leon Sterling, who had been smiling and looking around, suddenly had his expression frozen, "Has the hospital issued a final ultimatum?" As he understood his brother, if it weren’t absolutely necessary, he wouldn’t make this call.

"There’s at most one year left."

"I’m sorry..." Leon didn’t know what to say.

Ethan Sterling frowned slightly, then said, "It’s okay, I understand you, I..."

"Brother." Leon interrupted him, "Before I left, I took Honey’s bone marrow information from the hospital. The day after I got back to Gallia, I contacted my psychologist and went to do a check with him. The match failed." He paused, "I’m sorry."

At the time, he had been feeling miffed, thinking if he could use the bone marrow as leverage, maybe Ruby Sullivan would at least try being with him?

Heaven must have noticed his selfishness and didn’t let his wicked thought succeed.

"I’ll arrange to return home to see her soon," he continued.

"Okay, let me know when you buy your ticket; I’ll pick you up," said Ethan Sterling before hanging up.

Ruby Sullivan didn’t know what Leon Sterling said. Originally, she was desperate from what Ethan Sterling had said earlier, but then she heard hope at the end, "Did Don agree?"

Ethan Sterling tilted his head to look at her shining eyes, finding it hard to tell the truth. He hugged her again, not letting her look at him, "Don said he already did the match, and it failed."

Ruby Sullivan froze, feeling at that moment that the blood in her body had solidified, losing her greatest hope.

Ethan Sterling kissed her forehead to comfort her, "Don’t worry, as long as you get pregnant within two months, Honey has hope. Tomorrow morning, we can do the tests; as the doctor said, it will be in time."

"But the newborn might not match with Honey..." Ruby clutched at his clothes, feeling a heavy stone pressing on her chest, making it hard to breathe.

"Then it depends on whether heaven is willing to keep Honey," Ethan Sterling held her, pulling her to lie down, "Come, let’s sleep for a while first."

"Okay." For the first time, Ruby Sullivan felt secure in his arms, as if she finally had someone to rely on. Without overthinking, she quickly fell asleep.

Surprisingly, Ruby slept particularly well this time and didn’t wake up until Ethan Sterling got up. Her sleep was so sound that she rarely experienced such good rest even at home.

The two did a check-up at the hospital. Their bodies had no issues, but Ruby Sullivan’s menstrual cycle had never been regular. The doctor advised her to relax and not to pressure herself too much, suggesting they try natural conception first. If unsuccessful after a month, they could consider medical methods.

Ruby Sullivan almost lost her life during her first childbirth and was worried she might have difficulty conceiving again. Despite having a regular intimacy schedule with Ethan Sterling during this period, her belly showed no sign of change, which made her even more uneasy.

Hearing the doctor’s words, she felt slightly relieved.

Ethan Sterling said he had something to do and needed to leave. Ruby Sullivan nodded, wanting to consult the doctor again to see if there was anything particular to note. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Her first pregnancy was completely unexpected, and even though she was already a mother, she still felt completely clueless.

Ethan Sterling knew she was feeling insecure, so he patted her head to comfort her, "It’s alright."

She nodded, "I know." In truth, she knew nothing.

Ethan Sterling smiled, not knowing what else to say, "I have some important matters to handle today."

Ruby Sullivan lightly murmured, "Okay, you go ahead."

"Alright." Ethan responded in kind before walking away quickly.

Ruby Sullivan watched his back for a few more seconds and was about to turn to find the doctor when she saw him come back.

She thought he had forgotten something, looking at him curiously, but he walked straight up to her and suddenly kissed her on the forehead, "I’ll try to come back early."

This time he spoke and truly left.

Ruby Sullivan was momentarily bewildered, covering her forehead with her palm, a little dazed.

When he planted that kiss, she felt like she returned to her teenage self, heart pounding as she looked at him.

For quite a while, the hand covering her forehead turned into a series of slaps, quickly reddening her forehead, "Ruby Sullivan, wake up. Now’s not the time to be senselessly moved." Staring in the direction he disappeared, she muttered to herself.
