Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 115: Greasy Husband
A week’s time? Ruby Sullivan had a question mark in her head, "Mr. Sterling, can I first ask what plans you have?" Her work schedule was always packed to the brim, especially now that she had to deal with whatever challenges the Lawson Group might throw her way. Even though she didn’t work overtime, her workload was quite saturated.
A week’s time was really a bit long for Ruby Sullivan. If she took a week off and then came back to work... she’d rather not take a break.
"I can’t say just yet, but I hope you can keep next week free." His expression was very serious, as if it was an important event that absolutely could not be disclosed in advance.
Ruby Sullivan sighed, "If I must squeeze out a week’s time, I might need to work overtime every day this week." For her type of work, working overtime wasn’t really a big deal anyway. Now that Honey was taken care of, she could work overtime without worry.
Ethan Sterling hesitated for a moment then nodded, "Then let’s work overtime, I’ll keep you company."
Ruby Sullivan blinked, "Why do you need to keep me company?"
Ethan Sterling looked at her bewildered expression, somewhat displeased, "First of all, I’m your husband. If you’re working overtime until very late, I won’t be at ease. Secondly, I’m your boss, and I’d feel guilty letting my employees work overtime without care. Are you satisfied with this answer?"
Ruby Sullivan burst out laughing, "Mr. Sterling, do you know how many people work overtime every day in the Sterling Group building? If you say the second point, I bet a lot of employees would hope you could keep them company for overtime."
Ethan Sterling raised an eyebrow, "Too bad, none of them are my wife." He smiled slightly at her, the curve of his lips just right, and the faint light at the corner of his eyes, truly electrifying.
Ruby Sullivan felt a little dazed, seeing him already rising to sit back in his office chair. She couldn’t help but internally mock, aren’t there only a few men who would flirt with their wives after marriage?
She pursed her lips, deliberating for a long time, but eventually decisively got up, walked to Ethan Sterling’s desk, and said very seriously: "Mr. Sterling, are you trying to calculate against me again?" Everyone was straightforward; she admitted her IQ wasn’t as high as his, so she had to speak frankly. Anyway, even if he explained many schemes, she wouldn’t have the ability to dodge them.
Ethan Sterling was stunned, not knowing why, "Ms. Ruby Sullivan, what do you think you have that I need to calculate against? Wealth or... beauty?" He counted on his fingers, the bewildered expression on his face clearly stating that her wealth or beauty was insufficient for him to calculate against.
Ruby Sullivan felt offended to be underestimated, but on thinking it over, indeed her wealth and beauty didn’t really have anything worth scheming over.
"Then stop fluttering your eyelashes at me!" she angrily notified.
"Not good-looking?" Ethan Sterling asked quite seriously after hearing her words.
Ruby Sullivan frowned, "Very oily!" She turned and left, not wanting to waste time on these trivial matters.
Ethan Sterling watched her back, touched his face. He was very attentive about skincare, not oily at all, okay?
After touching his face, he slumped in his chair somewhat dejected, sighed, Ruby Sullivan, oh Ruby Sullivan, just what kind of bad image do I have in your mind, how can letting you take a vacation make you feel like I’m scheming against you?
He helplessly drummed his fingers on the chair back, slouched in the chair, spinning round and round.

Long past quitting time, Young saw all the colleagues had left, but the light in Ruby Sullivan’s office was still on, so she went over to knock on the door, "Boss, not leaving yet?"
"Hmm, I might take leave next week, so I’m arranging all the work first. I should be working overtime this whole week, you head back first."
Young was a bit surprised; she thought after Ruby Sullivan married Ethan Sterling, she wouldn’t have to work so hard anymore, especially considering Mr. Sterling’s behavior last night. She suddenly felt very envious of Ruby Sullivan.
She hesitated for a moment, but didn’t leave, instead cautiously asked, "Boss, can I take up some of your time? I have some personal matters to discuss."
Ruby Sullivan thought for a moment, nodded, "I’m hungry myself, I’ll treat you to dinner." She closed her laptop, grabbed her bag, and headed out with Young.
The two went to a nearby western restaurant famous for its delicious seafood pasta.
Young talked about her troubles, "Boss, I’m already 28 years old this year, my hometown is in X City, and I have a younger brother at home. Recently, my parents keep wanting me to go back home for blind dates and keep sending announcements like civil service exams and teaching positions. I..."
Ruby Sullivan had never faced the issue of being urged to marry, but she didn’t mind discussing her views with her subordinates, "What do you think?"
"I... honestly, I’m a bit hesitant." Young twirled her pasta on the plate but obviously had no appetite, "Although I’m now a senior perfumer, I might never reach your level in my lifetime. And because my social circle is very small, I barely have the chance to meet any men. Until now, the only romantic relationship I’ve ever had was in college, and we naturally broke up after graduation."
She sighed deeply, truly feeling quite melancholy.
She grew up in the countryside, and those kids she went to primary school with, their children were almost old enough to attend school. Her younger brother, who was two years younger than her, got married two years ago, and now his kid already calls her aunt.
Every time she returned home during the holidays, she felt like a freak in other people’s eyes—a grown woman who didn’t appear to have a lofty job and couldn’t even find a boyfriend. If she didn’t find one soon, she’d become a spinster.
Ruby Sullivan worried for her as well, but in such matters, no one else could make the decision for her.
What she could do was share her own story.
"Do you think I’m happy being married to Ethan Sterling?"
Young nodded repeatedly, "Actually, I used to question your relationship with Mr. Sterling, but seeing him pick you up last night, I realized you’re exactly what’s trending online—a woman who married for love."
Ruby Sullivan smiled wryly, not expecting her marriage to look so glamorous in others’ eyes. But thinking back, she definitely had fallen blindly in love with Ethan Sterling, ultimately marrying for love.
"Regardless of whether it’s marrying for love, I believe women should have independent financial means. Only then can they maintain a voice in the marriage. Hmm, and if thinking more pessimistically, just in case you ever decide to divorce him, you can at least stand your ground. But I don’t know if you should give up your current job to go back home for a stable life. My principle is, a life that makes you happy is a good life."
Ruby Sullivan raised her juice, clinking glasses with Young. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Young laughed along, "So even though you’re Mrs. Sterling now, you still have to work overtime for your job?"
"Of course." She sighed, "If I weren’t Mrs. Sterling, perhaps I could be tougher at work. Now, facing the boss’s demands, I always feel so miserable." She shook her head, half-jokingly, half-seriously saying, "If it were before, I would’ve definitely told him there’s absolutely no way I could spare a week’s time. If he insisted, I’d have to resign."
Young laughed, "Boss, that’s because you’re capable, okay? Not everyone dares to contend with their boss like that."
