"That was a wonderful match, young man."

Alden’s mind raced as the amused voice reached his ears.

Jeremy Voidforge.

The principal of the academy. A man whose strength was beyond comprehension.

His brown hair was parted in the middle, and his abyssal black eyes were so deep that they seemed to swallow light.

Even demons feared those eyes.

Jeremy wasn’t from a noble family.

He had no lineage, no prestigious name backing him. He had simply appeared one day as an orphan with nothing in his name.

And yet, through sheer talent and relentless effort, he had climbed the ranks.

The Emperor himself had granted him a surname: Voidforge.

A name was granted due to his mastery over the space element—one of the rarest and most underdeveloped affinities in existence of Eryndor.

But talent alone was not the only thing that defined him.

Jeremy had slaughtered more demons than could be counted. And yet, when he finally settled down, a demon general infiltrated the empire—and slaughtered his family.

That was his turning point.

He suddenly broke through to the Overlord Rank after that incident.

His hatred twisted him into something darker and obsessive.

Jeremy no longer fought for humanity.

He fought only to exterminate demons, no matter the cost.

Even if it meant sacrificing humanity itself.

Well, at least according to what was mentioned in the novel about his background.

And now, this man was interested in Alden.

Alden forced himself to maintain a steady and neutral expression as Jeremy studied him.

Why was he even here?

If he had simply heard about Alden defeating Lucien, he might have dismissed it.

Thinking that Lucien was probably weak.

But witnessing it firsthand?

That was different.

Jeremy was at Overlord rank. His eyes saw what others could not.

He had seen the whole fight.

He understood one thing.

Lucien wasn’t weak—not for his level.

Which meant... Alden was strong.

"You look like someone who has a lot on his mind."

Jeremy tilted his head as he spoke with an impassive expression.

Alden tried to keep his face as composed as possible, but inwardly, his mind was screaming with tension.

"I’m just surprised to be receiving attention from you, Principal Voidforge," Alden replied smoothly.

"Well, your fight was just so spectacular that even I couldn’t help but marvel at your skills." Jeremy smirked in amusement.

Alden’s fingers twitched slightly.

Did Jeremy suspect something?

No, that can’t be possible.

No one should have been able to recognise Ruinous Severance, not unless they were incredibly skilled in sword arts.

His sword art didn’t have any visual effects; it could pass as a normal quick-draw technique. As for his other skills, they also didn’t leave any visual effects.

So unless he used them in front of some powerhouse in reality, he was sure no one should be able to sense them.

"I simply fought to win, sir," he said, keeping his voice as steady as possible.

"The others may not have noticed, but I pay close attention to students with potential." Jeremy chuckled, but his gaze remained sharp.

Alden remained silent.

He knew exactly what was happening.

Jeremy wasn’t just making small talk—he was trying to measure him.

Calculating his worth.

Jeremy took a slow step forward.

"You see, true talent is rare."

His voice was almost casual.

"There are those who work hard to reach the top… and there are those born to stand above."

Alden met his gaze but said nothing.

Jeremy’s words weren’t a compliment.

They were a test.

"I believe talent is important," Alden finally said, "but effort is what matters the most."

"Spoken like someone who knows what it means to struggle." Jeremy raised a brow in surprise, not expecting such an answer.

Most of the students would get excited to be complimented by him, yet this kid was staying calm.

He wanted to test this kid more.

He changed his tone slightly.

"Tell me, Alden. What drives you?" Jeremy paused a little. "Is it power? Recognition? Or… something else entirely?"

Alden hesitated but only for a fraction of a second.

"I just want to grow strong enough to protect myself and those I care about."

Jeremy smiled. "Ah. How noble."

He took another step closer.

The air around him turned heavier.

"But tell me… what would you do if you failed?"

His voice turned serious.

"If everything you cared for was taken from you?"

Alden’s heart pounded, but he kept his face calm.

What kind of question was that?

Jeremy’s abyssal black eyes seemed to pierce through his soul, waiting for an answer.

Alden exhaled slowly.

He had never truly thought about such a scenario.

So, he simply borrowed a line from one of the novels he had read in his past life.

"I would grieve," he said. "And then I would stand up again."

For a moment, there was silence.

"Haha. A decent answer." Jeremy chuckled.

He continued.

"I would love to talk more, but I shouldn’t keep you too long. I imagine you have other matters to attend to."

"If you’ll excuse me, Principal Voidforge—" Alden nodded politely, eager to escape this conversation.

But Jeremy didn’t have any intention to let him off so easily.

"Actually." He interrupted Alden mid-sentence. "I’d like for you to stop by my office later today."

Alden froze. His fingers twitched slightly.

Fk. I knew it.

Jeremy had definitely taken an interest in me.

Your journey continues on novelbuddy

’It’s not at the level where he would try to possess my body immediately… but I’m on his radar now.’

’Radar of useful vessels for him to possess.’

"May I ask why, sir?" Alden asked politely.

"Nothing too serious. I would simply like to discuss your future at the academy." Jeremy smiled.

Alden knew better than to refuse.

Well, not that he had any choice to refuse. Jeremy was the principal after all.

So, he nodded. "Of course, sir. I’ll be there."

"Good. I’ll see you soon, then." Jeremy patted him on the shoulder, and with a snap of his fingers, he vanished as if he was never there in the first place.

Alden exhaled silently.

FK This is bad.

This is really bad.

I can’t lay low anymore.

I have to get stronger fast.

I don’t even have any system to protect me from being possessed.

He was protected from illusions and mind attacks by his Spirit Domain before in the Chaos trial, but he didn’t know if it would work against possession.

He couldn’t risk it.

Jeremy Voidforge was not someone he wanted to be noticed by. And yet, here he was—right in the middle of his radar.
