Chapter 234: Alden’s Arrival.

"Because someone has to punch you in that smug face."

Lucien blinked.

For a moment, he simply looked at the boy in front of him.

Bloodied, swaying and barely upright.

Looking at him he felt something unexpected:

He felt annoyed.

Why wasn’t he giving up?

Lucien had landed every blow with precision. Not to cripple—but to break will.

He even mocked the guy like a typical villain in some third rate novel.

Just enough to make him give up.

That was the goal.

Break his will, not his bones.

Yet Aziel was still standing.

Bloodied and barely conscious... but upright.

Why?

He frowned.

It’s fine, I just need one more attack.

Then Aziel would fall and this would be over.

He rolled his shoulder, gathering mana again but something was off.

Taking advantage of the small window while Lucien was lost in thought, Aziel shot forward with all his strength.

His feet burst with red mana.

Fire exploded behind him as he blasted forward.

It wasn’t some elaborate technique—just speed and desperation.

Lucien’s body moved.

But it was too late.

Tch.

He raised his hand too slowly.

CRACK!

A blazing punch in divine-colored flame, smashed across Lucien’s jaw.

His head snapped to the side.

The air itself rippled from the impact as the audience went deathly still.

Lucien’s body crashed into the arena barrier with a boom.

Dust and debris burst around him just from the shockwave of his Impact.

Aziel landed heavily.

His smile widened.

He looked up.

If that didn’t land, I swear I’m gonna die with regrets.

He wasn’t expecting an easy victory.

He just wanted to land a solid punch and a moment of dignity.

But even that moment didn’t last long.

The ground trembled faintly.

The air buzzed with lightning.

From within the cloud of dust, Lucien stepped out.

But he looked different.

His hair had turned into threads of raw lightning, floating unnaturally around his head.

His eyes were no longer violet. They had turned pure blue, crackling with arcs of lightning.

Aziel flinched instinctively.

What... the hell?

An oppressive weight pressed down on him.

His knees nearly gave.

Then—

’Get back.’

A voice echoed in his mind, sharp and urgent.

Aziel recognised the voice.

Ignis?

It was the voice of his contracted Spirit.

’Retreat. Now.’

’That’s not the same kid anymore....’

’Kael’Zin... has descended.

Aziel didn’t know what Ignis was talking about.

’Wait, what?! Descended? You mean possessed—’

He tried asking for more information but before he could complete his question, Ignis’s voice came again.

’Just a fragment. A sliver of will. But it’s enough to kill you.’

’His soul is being overshadowed temporarily—he won’t stop this next strike.’

Aziel wanted to run. Every instinct screamed at him. But his legs wouldn’t move.

Lucien—no, Kael’Zin—began walking forward, slow and silent.

The pressure increased with every step.

’Aziel. Listen to me. That next attack isn’t something you can block. It’s not lightning anymore. It’s divinity.’

’Although it would be restricted to the boy’s level... it will still be dangerous to you.’

Aziel opened his mouth.

"I—"

He wanted to forfeit.

But before he could speak—

Lucien raised his hand.

The crowd murmured in awe, still unaware of what they were seeing.

For them... the lightning and the mana didn’t look different.

The attack seemed powerful but not fatal.

From the announcer’s booth above the arena, a young man in formal uniform narrowed his eyes.

He was not an ordinary referee—he was Chris—a third-year student council member.

Expert-rank, trained in monitoring duels for signs of illegal power surges.

Still, his expression remained calm.

To him, Lucien’s aura felt intense—but not abnormal.

Not something fatal.

There was no signature change.

Just a boy using lightning.

A strong technique, maybe a new skill. But still lightning.

Still human.

Moreover with Aziel still standing, Chris had no grounds to interfere.

__

In the audience.

Cecilia, Amyra and Nyx sat together in the front row.

Their eyes were fixed on the duel.

They had been there since the beginning, watching as Aziel took hit after hit.

Cecilia’s fingers clenched tightly around her armrest.

She kept telling herself he would stop when it got dangerous—when it crossed the line.

That Aziel knew better.

But her heart wasn’t buying it.

And as the match dragged on, her expression grew darker with each blow.

Just then—

Amyra shifted in her seat.

Something was wrong.

The air felt different. Dense and distorted.

That’s not just lightning.

She leaned forward, her brows furrowing.

Spirit mana.

Most students wouldn’t notice. But she did.

She had felt it before. She had even fought against it before.

Her instincts didn’t lie.

Kael’Zin.

Her eyes narrowed.

If no one else was going to move, then—

She began to rise from her seat.

She wasn’t going to let a friend of her dear die.

She was going to interfere.

But the moment she stood—

She felt a presence.

Her eyes shifted to the stage.

Her lips curled upward.

"...You’re late," she whispered under her breath.

And sat back down.

You’re here, Alden.

__

Back on the stage,

Aziel clenched his jaw.

He had to move. He had to shout.

Anything—

But he couldn’t.

Just then—

A voice cut through the storm.

"It’s too late, Ignis." Lucien muttered as he swung his hand.

The lightning crackled like a dragon as it flew towards Aziel.

Time slowed and sound disappeared.

Aziel felt his life flashing before his eyes.

But he failed to notice his shadow stretching unnaturally.

Before the attack could connect—

A figure shot out from the shadows.

[Shadow Steps]

A boy with black hair and red eyes stepped between Aziel and the attack.

His gaze was calm and unreadable.

He raised his hand. "Fuck off."

[Abyssal Soul]

The lightning dragon collided with his hand and vanished as if it had never existed.

The entire arena fell silent.

Gasps erupted from the crowd a second later.

Lucien stood frozen, his breathing rough and his body twitching slightly.

And then his body returned to normal, the light in his eyes was gone.

His hair fell back into place.

The arcs of lightning around him faded.

Kael’Zin was gone.

Lucien had regained control.
