Chef at the University Canteen-Chapter 521 - 284: A Flavor Fit for Heaven, Seldom Sensed on Earth (Part 4)
"Boss, everyone’s here, when do we start?"
The private room on the first floor had been tidied up in advance. At the moment, the dining tables inside were removed, and three desks were combined into a long table covered with a blue tablecloth. Jia Dequan sat in the middle of the table, with Jiang Yu and Lu Shuwu on either side.
Opposite them, there was a long sofa.
The interview space was still somewhat simple, but Jiang Yu and the others didn’t mind too much—after all, this was just a student cafeteria, not a five-star hotel.
Moreover, the interview was merely a formality, a process for mutual understanding. The real assessment comes later.
Having taken a shower and changed into clean clothes, Jiang Yu felt much more comfortable, and upon hearing Yan Tongtong’s words, he turned to look at Jia Dequan and Lu Shuwu, smiling as he asked:
"Is everyone ready? Shall we begin?"
"Let’s begin!"
Jia Dequan nodded. This kind of interview was no big deal for him; he had even interviewed head chefs, not to mention cooks for the kitchen.
Lu Shuwu was a bit excited; from university graduation till now, he’d always been the one being interviewed. Now, it felt like the oppressed were finally singing of liberation—utterly thrilling.
He originally wanted to keep a stern face and assume a serious demeanor, hoping to instill some sense of authority as an interviewer. Alas, his joy kept pulling the corners of his mouth upwards, ruining the intended atmosphere.
In resignation, he had no choice but to go with the flow.
Jiang Yu didn’t know such a small interview could make Lu Shuwu so happy. Seeing everyone ready, he nodded to Yan Tongtong and said:
"Alright, Xiaoyan, call them in one by one according to the resume order."
"Okay, senior brother."
Yan Tongtong responded, glanced at the resume in her hand, then turned and exited the room to notify the interviewees.
Before long, someone knocked on the door of the private room, and Jiang Yu solemnly said, "Come in."
When the door was pushed open, a plain-looking, somewhat honest young man walked in from outside. Seeing three people seated, he seemed to have encountered such a scene for the first time and couldn’t help but freeze.
After a while, he regained his composure and bowed slightly to the three, nervously saying:
"H-hello, bosses!"
"No need to be nervous; we’re just here to meet and chat casually."
Jia Dequan gave him a friendly smile, gestured to the sofa opposite, and said with a laugh, "Come on, have a seat first, have a seat!"
After the young man carefully seated himself on the sofa, Jia Dequan spoke again:
"Niu Daqiang, right? How about you start with a self-introduction?"
"Ah?"
Niu Daqiang froze again, pointed at the resume in Jia Dequan’s hand, and said with a puzzled look, "It’s all in the resume."
"..."
Jia Dequan found himself at a loss for words.
Lu Shuwu almost burst into laughter; luckily, he quickly raised a hand to cover his mouth. Laughing now would be far too awkward.
"We know it’s in the resume."
As the room’s atmosphere grew increasingly odd, Jiang Yu broke the silence, smiling as he said:
"The reason for the self-introduction is we want to know more about you, beyond what’s in the resume." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"Like why did you decide to become a chef? When did you start learning to cook? In what situation did you first receive praise for your cooking? How did you feel at the time, etc."
"Oh, that’s what you’re asking about."
Niu Daqiang showed a look of sudden realization, slightly furrowing his brows as he said, "But these stories are quite long."
"No problem, take your time; we have plenty of time."
Jiang Yu smiled, watching him while sipping tea from his cup.
Jia Dequan and Lu Shuwu looked at Jiang Yu in surprise:
Is this... your first interview?
Why does it seem like you’re very familiar with this!
