Chasing The Vengeful Villainous Heiress-Chapter 104: I’m not going anywhere
After saying those words, Valerie soon fell asleep in the car. She was still sick so it was inevitable.
Max held her to himself, resting her head on his thighs and gently stroking her hair. He has this contended smile on his face. It had been a while since they were together like this.
He really missed her.
Jeremy, from the passenger’s seat, subtly stole a glance at his boss through the rearview mirror, and seeing such a smile on his face, he concluded that his boss had indeed fallen for Valerie.
He had never seen him smile like that at anyone else. Even the smile and expressions he put up for his sister whom he adored were completely different from this.
That warmth in his eyes belonged to Valerie and Valerie alone.
Valerie woke up with a sudden shock. She had a dream. Well, more like a nightmare. She was back at the psychiatric hospital and was bound to her bed. She couldn’t move, couldn’t scream either. There was no strength in her body and that feeling scared her.
Bound to the bed with nothing but darkness around her scared her. It was terrifying and she wanted to her away from it so badly that she cried.
Her tears turned to blood and it dyed the bed red.
It was so scary but once she was able to open her eyes in real life, she discovered she wasn’t in the asylum anymore and that it was a horrible dream.
The ceiling her eyes met was that of her room in Max’s house.
’Thank God.’ she sighed. ’But when did we get back?’ she wondered and turned her head to the side, only to find Max sleeping next to her.
She blinked, surprised. But that surprise fell into that of warmth. She smiled softly and reached out her hand to caress his face.
Seriously, how long has it been since they were like this together? She had been so buried in work that she neglected him, as well as her own feelings.
Well, not anymore.
She sat up and dropped her legs. She was just about to get down from the bed when she felt Max wrap his hands around her waist.
"Where are you going?" He asked with a sleepy tone.
She looked back to find his eyes were closed. She gave out a little laugh and muttered,
"Even in your sleep, you don’t want to let go. It makes me happy to know that." She placed her hand on his and slowly dropped it but he still kept his guard up and held her tight.
He looked so exhausted but was still on guard. Just how much had he worried about her?
She leaned towards his ear and whispered,
"I’m not going anywhere. I just want to use the bathroom." After whispering that in his ear, his restlessness eased up a little as well as his grip.
She got off the bed and went to the bathroom. She looked at her reflection in the mirror and sighed. She had lost a lot of weight. No wonder he was so restless. He had every right to be worried after seeing her like this.
Thankfully, her temperature had gone down so she wouldn’t be bothered by the fever.
Then, she remembered the nightmare. She shook her head and washed her face to wake her up completely. It was just a nightmare of her past and nothing more.
In her wardrobe, she discovered that the clothes that were in the office room were all there.
She glanced at Max sleeping on the bed. Haah, he was well prepared to tear her away from the company.
She decided to take a bath before Max woke up. She hated the smell on her body. Though her clothes were changed from the hospital’s uniform, she could still smell traces of the hospital on her and she wanted to get rid of them.
The only reason she had that nightmare after so long was because she found herself in the hospital and was surrounded by similar utensils they used on her.
"Ugh, I’m never going there again." She muttered and gritted her teeth as she washed her body thoroughly. "I’ll never visit the hospital again."
Max subconsciously stretched out his hand to Valerie’s side on the bed but did not feel her body. His eyes shot open in fear and saw that the bed was empty.
He almost panicked till he heard the sound of splashing water coming from the bathroom.
Realizing she might’ve just been taking a bath, his heart fell at ease.
A knock came on the door almost immediately and he got down from bed.
He opened it to find Mariam.
"Ah, you’re back." He said with no single excitement on his face.
"Why do I feel you wanted me to sleep at the company?" She asked with suspicious eyes. Max did not deny it and simply darted his eyes aside, masking his intentions, which filled her with disbelief. How could he? "You..."
"Is dinner ready yet?" Max asked, interrupting her and she calmed herself.
"Yes, brother. I came up to let you know. Mom wants you two to come down for dinner." She said and tried to look past him to catch a glimpse of Valerie but she wasn’t there. "Where’d she go?"
"Why are you looking for my wife?" Max asked in full defense.
Mariam looked at him in disbelief. Was he being serious?
"What? It’s not like I’m going to steal her away from you. Sheesh, you’re being a little too paranoid if you ask me."
The bathroom door opened and Valerie walked out with dripping wet hair and a short towel wrapped around her chest, exposing way too much flesh.
As soon as Max saw this, he shut the door on Mariam and said,
"Tell Mom we’ll be down."
"You..." Mariam was furious but she couldn’t stay furious for long as she remembered how good Valerie looked with just a towel. Her face turned red. "My sister-in-law is so well packaged." She placed her hands on her cheeks, blushing really hard. "I want to be like her when I grow up."
