Chapter 100: Do you have a problem with it?

Stacy watched her as she laughed. Well, they could be considered as small fry given that kind of description to Stewart and Ross but Ross isn’t exactly how it used to be.

It’s probably fallen from that 92 score thanks to all that had been going on.

So many cooperations were broken thanks to its shady involvement. Even if the person behind it was already gone and off the seat, it was likely that they would come back to cooperate with Ross.

Valerie had mostly used money from Ross’ pocket to settle issues that seemed too difficult to negotiate since she couldn’t be bothered with their fake loyalty and cut ties with them.

She was there when it all happened and it was very impressive but she was still so blinded by jealousy... Haah.

Anyway, even after that, Ross’ pocket was still loaded. So they probably didn’t fall too far from 92 and would be somewhere next to 77. That was how great the company was and that was why everyone saw it as a threat they must get rid of.

There was no need to overlook the threats though.

Even if they were considered small fries, if they came together to bring down Ross in order to tear it apart and take the profits for themselves, they had quite the chance at winning.

Valerie was doing quite the grand work. But with her being sick,... What would happen to the company? Would it fall once more?

She lowered her head. She was worried. This was all because of her stupid jealousy. If only she had worked earnestly, Valerie wouldn’t have felt drained.

"My sister-in-law won’t be coming to work in the coming days." Mariam said.

She had a hunch that even after getting discharged from the hospital, her brother wouldn’t let Valerie come to the company right away.

Well, this was her time to shine.

"But the company cannot be left unhandled either, so," she smirked. ’I guess this is my time to shine.’ she secretly sniggered. "I’ll be taking over for now."

"What?" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"Do you have a problem with it?" She asked but Stacy frantically shook her head.

"No, not at all." She said. "But, I don’t think it’s appropriate."

"Then, would you like the company to stay without a person in charge?" She asked and suddenly squinted her eyes. "Or, is it that you just want to be that person?"

"How dare I have such thoughts? I was just worried since you are a Stewart and have no obligation to help Ross." Stacy said and Mariam gave it a thought.

It would look weird if she took it on without consent. Well, she should get it from her brother at least, since he was Valerie’s husband.

She took out her phone and stared at it for a while.

’They should be in the hospital by now, right?’ she wondered and dialed her brother’s number. He picked up right away as if expecting her call.

"Great timing." He said. "I’ll need you to take care of things in Ross for the time being. I didn’t want you to step into such a harsh world yet but I can’t let all Valerie’s effort go to waste so you’ll have to keep it standing in the meantime. Use your capabilities and try to take care of as many problems as you can. I believe you can do it."

With those words said, he cut the call.

Mariam was speechless. She did but expect that.

"Haha, it’s like we share the same thoughts." She mumbled and turned to look at Stacy. "There you have it. I have officially been given the mantel to operate this company in your boss’ absence."

"A-alright." Stacy said, sweat dripping down the corners of her face. ’Is this okay, though? She might have this intimidating presence and speak like a grown-up but she’s still 19 years old. Can she really handle the weight of the company?’

"I know what you’re thinking." Mariam said and Stacy gulped.

She smirked and said,

"Let me show you the capabilities of this 19-year-old girl."

Max kept his phone and turned to look at the doctor and nurses who were treating Valerie.

He originally planned to call his grandfather and tell him about the situation, hoping he’d be able to send a trustworthy fellow to keep the company standing but then Mariam called.

"It’s probably for the best." He muttered. "I’ll trust her this time."

He stared at Valerie who was still wheezing heavily and his face contorted.

Why did she have to fall sick? Her extremely pale complexion, dry throat, skinny appearance, extreme weight loss, and extremely high temperature... These were things she wouldn’t suffer from if she just stayed comfortably with him and let him provide for her.

When he carried her, he noticed right away that she had lost so much weight. Why? It had only been a few weeks.

Why could she not rely on him? He was extremely reliable, wasn’t he? He was the representative of Stewart, the type of man she saw fit to stand next to her.

So, why was she still struggling?

He clenched his fists.

He shouldn’t have let her go on and on, working till her bones were tired. He shouldn’t have let her out of his sight in the first place. She wasn’t even eating properly and it vexed him greatly.

Now, he just wanted to tie her to himself and keep her away from these troubles, so that all she ever sees is his face, his affection for her, and his devotion.

Yes, that was a great idea but... Will she be happy?

If he went ahead with this, would she smile at him with sincerity?

He would gain nothing from forcing his will onto her.

In the end, he was powerless.

But at least with this, he could keep her away from the company for a while and get to spend some time with her.

’It seems like I’ll have to do ’that’ after all.’ he thought to himself.

In order to avoid such a thing from happening in the future... since he couldn’t keep her in his house, making her do nothing... he would have to take action for the company, whether Valerie was against it or not.

This... Should never have to repeat itself. Valerie must not get sick or drained because of this company a second time.
