Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 98: The wretched people - I
The familiar houses that Evelyn had seen growing up almost everyday appeared and she knew that they were near her father’s house.
An unsettling feeling settled inside her chest as she realised that they were still in the house of the man that they would not think twice before stabbing in the back.
All her Uncles stayed at her father’s house while she was paying the bills. Evelyn remembered very clearly that she had given the house help the word to go away. She had also paid them three months in advance and she told them that she would no longer be paying them because their services were no longer required for her which meant that they were exploiting the workers or the workers were being paid, hopefully, by her uncle and answers.
She knew for sure that her aunts were not going to cook and clean.
Before long they stopped in front of the door to her Home. The Home that she has spent most of her life in and would have continued to do so had her father not died.
"Wait here," Salvatore told her as he got out of the car and moved to her side. Opening her door, he held out his hand which Evelyn took without a thought.
"Thank you," she flashed a quick smile before turning to look at her house anxiously.
This was her house.
This was her house which had been occupied by the people that were standing in the doorway with beaming smiles on their faces. These smiles were not directed to her. None of them glanced at her. All her family members were staring at the golden. . . rooster?
Evelyn glanced at Salvatore. She moved her eyes up and down in a quick motion. He was definitely not a hen.
He was a golden rooster.
"Don Alessandro," her eldest uncle descended the five stairs of the entrance. "Welcome."
Salvatore raised his hand and her greedy uncle; Julio kissed the signet on his middle finger.
Evelyn glanced at one more time like she had previously done a thousand times. It was now an oxidized silver ring and by the looks of it, it told her that it definitely and generations back.
After her uncle pulled away, Evelyn was left standing there cold because she had not received any kind of greeting. Neither had her uncle greeted her nor had her aunt.
"Luigi,"
Evelyn’s head snapped to Salvatore who looked straight at her youngest cousin’s brother.
"Are you aware of Evelyn’s relationship with me?"
Luigi gulped and stepped forward. He nodded, "Yes, Don Alessandro."
"Then tell your family," Salvatore’s eyes moved to Julio, "I don’t think they all know."
Luigi spoke from where he stood. He did not move at all. "Evelyn is his girlfriend."
Not girlfriend, Evelyn wanted to correct him but whatever.
Her aunt stepped forward and Evelyn almost fainted. She knew what came next.
"Ms Bianchi," her aunt whispered as if it pained her to say, "welcome to our home. I hope everything is to your liking."
Gianna’s eyes remained on her hand. Evelyn casted a glance to Salvatore who nodded his head in support of understanding what was going on in her head.
Evelyn waste her hand and her aunt to get in hers. She placed a kissed on the knuckles but before Gianna start back up straight Evelyn took her hand away making the fact that she was not happy.
Growing uncomfortable with it all Evelyn once again look at Salvatore but this time he was not looking at her. Salvatore was looking at her uncle who nodded and stepped aside as a following Salvatore to enter his home first.
Salvatore most Evelyn moved with him. She was apprehensive of entering the house that she had left behind because she had no intention of returning to its. The house had too many attached memories and Evelyn was aware if she once entered it, she wouldn’t be able to leave.
Just as ahe entered the threshold of the house, her step faltered and she came to a stop.
Mafia households did not have much inside their homes that could give away the family members. At a level personal touches of the mother and there was a family portrait of the three of them right in front of the entrance. Then it was the multiple photos in small frames that were littered on the wall specially for family photos and moments but what Evelyn saw was nothing.
"What have you done?" Evelyn stared at the empty walls, bare of any kind of resemblance to how she had left them. "Where are the pictures?"
Gianna’s mouth opened and closed like a fish before she casted her husband a glance. "Well, since we decided to live here we decided that—" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Evelyn had already had enough. "But you do—"
"Evelyn," Salvatore’s voice silenced everyone. "I think we should proceed with dinner."
He did not think that they should proceed with dinner, Salvatore ordered them to proceed with the inner and Evelyn nodded.
One thing that Evelyn laughed at was, her uncle did not have any kind of title and the family title was passed over to Angelo, so her uncle had to sit away from the head chair because that position was given to Salvatore.
And just like salvatores counterpart would sit, Evelyn took the space that his wife was supposed to take.
Once everyone was seated, it took no time for this servere to come and serve the first cours. Of course, the women were given something different from the men.
Not that it was different food but the portion sizes were much smaller.
Evelyn give a bitter chuckle at that. She was aware that this could happen which is why she was thankful for the fact that she had already eaten.
"Don Alessandro," her uncle, Julio spoke up, "I hope everything is to your liking."
In other words what her uncle meant was, ’I hope you are going to start this conversation because I really do not have the authority to.’
Evelyn’s eyes turned to Salvatore as she waited for his reply
