Chapter 244: The dinner date - IV

With another bite of the delicious dish, Evelyn forgot about the daunting thought of Angelo.

Hey even though her food was more than delicious, she could not help but look at his plate where he was cutting the meat. It was not the food that she was staring at but at the hands that were working on it. Those strong, rough fingers easily cut to the meat with the knife and his four picked it up before he wrapped his lips around it.

Those lips...

When was the last time she let him touch her with those lips? Probably this morning but it was clearly not enough.

She needed more. Evelyn needed more of him.

"Evelyn, please stop staring," Salvatore reprimanded her even though he did not once look up from his plate.

"Why?" She questioned with curiosity. "You are pretty. I am admiring your," she waved her hand in front his face, "prettiness."

He scoffed. "Thanks."

She hummed, satisfied with the reply that she had received. She got back to eating her food and after two bites Evelyn realised something.

"Friday is the death anniversary of my father." She said out loud for him to hear. Today was Wednesday, and she had merely a day to prepare herself for visiting her father’s grave for the first time.

"And?"

She gulped, "I don’t think I’m ready to meet him."

Salvador kept his knife and fork down once again and gave her his full attention. He sold it as arms and let them rest on the table as he said, "I was not going to ask you this, but now that I’m listening to what you feel, would you like me to go with you?"

"Have you ever visited the grave of someone?"

Salvatore thought about it for a moment. He had certainly put someone in the grave but when it came to visiting them, it was only his grandmother that he had gone with the intention of remembrance.

"I have visited my grandmother." he replied but then thought of elaborating further, " but I cannot say that it is the same because I do not remember her and on the other hand you spend much more time with your father."

His grandmother, Isabella, was someone he did not remember at all. He was approximately five years old when she was murdered and if it had not been for the photographs and a few videos his mother had kept safely, he would not have anything when it came to her.

Salvatore could see it in his fathers eyes how thankful he had been for Alexis to save the memories.

"I don’t think I had much of a relationship with him either." Evelyn answered. "Mummy died when I was young and after that I never saw my father in the same way as I did before. He brought in a stepmother yes but she never stepped into the role of the mother and... neither did my father."

Today’s day, she did love him dearly. More really then she would have loved anyone but the reality did not change that they had grown apart after her mother had passed away.

"If you don’t want to go then it’s fine."

Her eyes snapped up to his to see if he was serious or not, but by the looks of it Salvatore was very much serious.

"I mean it," he said, "it is not obligatory for you to go to his grave every year."

"but I have to do it once," she argued, "I’ve never been to his grave."

"Then go ahead." He sipped his wine. " If you continue to put too much thought into it, you will never be able to decide." He pointed at her finished plate, "dessert?"

She grinned.

"Evelyn," Salvador looked around the building with one of his hands around her waist and the other on the edge of a gun, "are you sure we are in the right place?"

"Yup," she replied by popping the ’p’ before going forward to the server. "What flavour do you want?" She leaned a little to Salvatore and pointed to the menu that was kept in front of them.

He leaned more, " do we need to have a gelato from here? Why can we not go to a better place that might have proper sanitisation?"

"It’s fine." She waved him off. "When I was a broke college student, this was all I could afford and trust me this is good." She did a chef’s kiss for emphasis.

She ended up ordering Pistachio and Salvatore took tiramisu.

The server started to prepare it in front of them and they hang back to wait for a few moments.

"why would you ever choose to be broke when you had your father? You don’t know that your father always had his shadow upon you, yes?"

Evelyn looked over to him and found him genuinely looking down at her but curiosity in those eyes. Perhaps, he was interested in knowing the answer.

"I.." she sratached her ear, "honestly I was stupid, young and just in love which made it all... Go down the wrong heel. If I have to choose things differently then I certainly would."

But if she chose things differently then he would not have met her. After all, Salvatore had seen her in a building like this, he had seen her; Evelyn, as a waitress.

"Maybe," he said anyway.

Salvatore stepped forward when the server was ready with their orders. As much as he could have Evelyn avoid contact, he would ensure to do so. Handing her flavour, they walked out of the establishment as soon as possible even though Evelyn seemed to be a real little reluctant.

"Stop," she forced the heels of her feet down and turned to look at him in irritation, "why don’t you stop and enjoy for once?"

"my once-in-a-lifetime enjoyment can cost me my life and yours." He pointed out the matter of fact.

She clicked her tongue and took a bite of the dessert before placing it in front of his mouth and staring at him expectantly. "Go ahead."

He glanced down at the spoon, and sighed in irritation before he tasted it.

With an annoying look in her eyes, ever and stared at him who had a change in his expressions before glancing down at his visit in his hand. "Let’s eat in the car." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"Tasty, yes?" She said when they started to walk towards it.

Instead of answering her once again, Salvador leaned towards her ear and whispered, "not more than you."
