Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 209: An attack in the house - I
It was dinner time, well a minute to go before it struck eight.
She was watching the second hand tick away until finally it reached 12 and the minute hand moved.
It was 8 but there was no sign of Salvatore. Usually he would be back home for dinner at least 30 or 15 minutes before it was the time for dinner but it could be one of those days where he was just working late.
And not to mention the fact that she had also appeared in his office to distract him from a few meetings.
Marco brought out the dinner and with the help of another maid served her before standing in the corner of the room, waiting for her commands.
Keeping her eyes on the clock, she waited until the food turned cold and Marco had to point it out.
"Would you like me to heat it up?" He asked, inching closer to her plate. "The pasta will not taste good."
She waved him away. Her mouth felt sour already. What more could cold pasta do?
Slowly, Evelyn rolled the pasta on her fork before bringing it to her mouth. She had no taste for cold pasta even though some people prefered it, but still it anyway just to keep her mind away from the empty seat.
Salvatore did not come home and it was almost comical to how the man had actually heeded to her warning not to come back all together.
She scoffed. Maybe she should have chosen a better word, because it was obvious that the men had homes all over the world and it was going to take a snap of a finger for him to shift somewhere else.
Then the picture that she had found in his drawer came to her mind.
In the picture she looked ugly, she looked like someone that was barely scraping by the ends because that was going on in her life.
Yet he snapped a picture and kept it with him. When she had been on the lowest of all times.
A clank brought her eyes to the plate and she noticed that it was empty. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Would you like some more, madam?" Marco, once again, silently appeared in front of her on the opposite side and his hand hovered over the container.
"No," she shook her head, pushed the plate away and stood up. "Thank you."
"Can I send the desert to your room?"
"No."
There was no dessert for her.

She did not go to the bedroom straight away. Instead Evelyn made her way to the terrace and enjoyed the old when blowing her hair slightly.
She huffed with eyes full of tears as she looked up. How many times has she been told by Maria that her mother was up there, in the stars somewhere? Watching her and shining brightly as if blanketing her protection around Evelyn?
"I wish I could do so too." She whispered into the night whilst looking up. "I wish I could protect Arabella like this."
Who knew what orphanages were like? What her daughter was going through on a daily basis.
Evelyn’s head whipped around when she heard something.
It was a small sound but her ears caught it. It was like someone was standing here but had moved quickly but had moved and had probably touched do something with their feet.
"Who is it?" It could not be the guards—
It hit her then, there were no guards..
And there were always guards. If anyone had to be relieved or had to eat, they had to call in a replacement.
But there were no guards on the terrace.
How the hell did she not notice this before? Before Evelyn could think about something else, the best option she had was get out of here and somewhere where the cameras or people were going to be.
She darted towards the entrance and climbed down the stairs in a hurry. The next place where she had to go was—
Evelyn came to a halt. Her steps slowly came to a complete stop and stared at what was kept in the middle of the hallway, right in front of her.
It was a knife.
Not just any knife but the dagger she had used to stab Giovanni repeatedly.
The dagger that she had used to kill her friend that might have threatened her security and of her daughter’s.
This was not good.
Why was it lying in the middle of the hallway and in Italy? It should have been in that small town in the UK where she had left it.
"No.." Evelyn shook her head to herself before going ahead and side-stepping the dagger but stopped when her eyes fixated themselves on the object.
This.. and the bloody handprint, no one was going to believe her and she had the proof. No one had believed her when she told them that she had seen a bloody handprint on her door but this, this knife was going to be the proof.
Evelyn gulped. This was necessary. This was necessary just as killing Giovanni was.
Reaching over to the knife, she bent down and picked up before running out of there. If someone had kept the knife there then they had to be around it, just in case she decided to repeat the same mistake and leave it where it was kept.
She ran downstairs knowing the Marco would still be in the kitchen and would be eating along the mains in the dining room attached for them.
She was on the stairs and this time, much more careful than she had been before. The dining room for the servants was not in the kitchen but behind that and she had to go through another hallway which had a direct door there.
Marco was the chain that was going to connect to Salvatore immediately. If he called anyone, be it the don or any one of the inner circle they would pick up.
This was her only option since she did not have her phone and she did not remember his number either.
Running into the kitchen Evelyn opened the door that had a small hallway, like an alley, and was ready to step in when she felt a blow to her head.
"Fu—" gripping her head was the last thing she could do, before her body dropped on the floor and she lost consciousness.
