CEO's Reborn Wife-Chapter 57 - 65: Husband
The persistent beeping eventually roused Peter Gingery from his slumber.
Peter shot up in the bed, holding his mobile phone in stunned silence.
What had he just said to his brother? Had he unintentionally thrown Jane Sampson under the bus again?
If Jane found out about his conversation with his brother this time, she’d probably block him for a year, right?
Peter hurriedly called Jane, worried she might not be able to receive his calls, but luckily she picked up after a while.
"Jane, what are you up to right now? You’re not with James, are you?" Peter whispered, trying to probe.
"I’m walking the dog," Jane replied matter-of-factly, although she had switched the setting from the residential community to the shopping mall.
"So, did you block James’s number?" Peter asked.
"Yeah, how did you know?" Jane exclaimed, "Don’t tell me he couldn’t reach me and called you instead? What did you tell him? Oh, I mean, what did he tell you?" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
When Jane changed the order of her questions, her tone of voice changed as well.
"Nothing... I didn’t say anything... My brother just asked me if I’ve been calling you constantly." Peter scratched his head in frustration, thinking if he went bald young, it would definitely be because of the trouble Jane and James, that couple, caused him.
Peter sighed deeply, "Jane, let me interview you for a second, how on earth did you get the courage to block my brother’s number?"
"He’s a creep," Jane complained.
Peter sighed, "You just realized that today? He’s not just creep today, he’s always been a creep, you know? Do you have any idea how he trained us at the Solar Planet Guardian Team last week? My God, he treated us like we weren’t even human, you know..."
Once the topic was open, Peter just couldn’t stop talking; he desperately needed someone to listen to his rants and complaints, and someone to join him in a united front against James.
And indeed, Jane was the perfect partner in crime. For every complaint he had, Jane had a sarcastic comment, and after a little more back and forth, they both hung up feeling incredibly relieved.
Standing at the doorway of the shopping mall, Jane took a deep breath, thinking to herself that she and Peter truly were each other’s angels; now, the air in Capital Province seemed not so terrible anymore.
Jane hopped out of the car with the Great General in tow and headed straight for the mall. Since it wasn’t a formal mall, pets were allowed inside, so the person and dog entered the cold drink store in high spirits.
On this summer afternoon, bringing one’s beloved pet to the cold drink store and enjoying the deliciousness of ice cream together was pure bliss.
But...
Jane’s good mood didn’t last long...
She had to drag the person she’d blocked out of the blacklist, crying, and scuttle back to make a groveling call.
James Black was heading home, his face dark with anger when he received a call from Jane. Seeing her call did not improve his mood in the least.
"Hello," James answered, his voice ominously gloomy.
"Husband, I’m at the little shopping mall close to our home with the Great General. Can you come over?"
In a single utterance of "husband," there lay unspeakable charm.
When Jane sweetly called him "husband" on the phone, James almost dropped his mobile onto the ground.
Throughout their marriage, Jane had never called him that way before, and likewise, he had never directly called her "wife" or "my dear."
