Jane Sampson, while speaking, passed her and Elizabeth King’s ID cards over, glanced over there, and figured there must be some important person over there.
After the guards reviewed the IDs and confirmed that Jane Sampson was an actor in the film crew, she and Elizabeth King were allowed to pass. Only after walking in did Jane learn from others that the Village Chief had just arrived.
Jane loved a good crowd, but wasn’t quite as excited by this sort of bustle. Elizabeth King had already squeezed into the group, while Jane, feeling hungry, went straight to the side and grabbed a meal to find a place to sit and eat.
No sooner had she sat down than Shirley Young and his assistant came over; they too went directly for a meal and joined Jane at her table.
"Aren’t you curious about the commotion over there, don’t you want to take a look?" Shirley Young passed a bottle of mineral water to Jane and asked casually.
"I’m a bit curious, but not so much that I’d endure hunger just to join the commotion," Jane replied with forthright candor.
Of course, the main thing was, Jane didn’t think her small frame could squeeze through.
"There’s a leader from up top who happened to visit an old teammate in the village and knew our film crew was here, so he swung by," Shirley explained to Jane. "The leader is in the crowd, so when you came in just now, were you scared by the guards on duty over there?"
"How could I be?" Jane couldn’t help but express a bit of pride, "Senior Young, my husband is a guard too. When he puts on a stern face, he’s even more intimidating than those few men combined. I’ve been with him for over 20 years; how could those few men scare me?"
Jane’s response made Shirley pause, but, unable to hold back, he burst out laughing.
Jane Sampson’s husband probably had no idea how she "praised" him in front of others, right?
The three sat at one table, chatting casually, with one of them keenly focused on her meal. When Father Carter and Director Wilson were about to leave after their conversation, Father Carter glanced over and spotted the trio at the corner table. Once he got a clear view of the three, he smiled.
"Shirley Young," Father Carter walked over and called out his son-in-law, before turning to Jane, "Jane, what a coincidence to bump into you again like this."
"Uncle Carter," Jane immediately put down her bowl and chopsticks and stood up, still looking astounded. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
She had no idea that the leader who was surrounded by the crowd, the one everyone referred to with respect, turned out to be James Carter’s father!
"We’re not far from Springtown, so feel free to visit the Carter family when you have time. Even if James isn’t there, you’re always welcome. Aunt Carter has been missing you these past years," Father Carter said, patting Jane’s shoulder, glancing at her half-empty bowl, adding, "You still have a hearty appetite, that’s good. It’s a blessing for a girl to be able to eat well. Don’t follow those diets; they’re no good."
"..." Is this how some men give compliments?
Jane covered her face.
After exchanging a few words with Jane, Father Carter looked over to Shirley, their gazes met for two seconds, they both smiled at each other, without saying much more.
Meanwhile, the Village Chief, who had managed to squeeze out, saw the minister talking with a young girl, took a look from the side, and hurried over, happily chiming in, "This girl must be Minister Carter’s heiress, right? She really does resemble her father, and she’s very beautiful!"
