He had even seen people who didn’t bother memorizing their lines, waiting until they were on set for their assistant to remind them with the script from a distance. Some even just spoke whatever came to mind, leaving their co-stars truly sweating with embarrassment.
Shirley Young knew Jane Sampson wasn’t the pretentious and arrogant type, so when talking with Jane, she was much more straightforward. For instance, she didn’t hesitate to point out subtle inadequacies in Jane’s facial expressions while teaching her.
And Jane listened to every word very carefully, then mulled them over. Eventually, Shirley went so far as to demonstrate for Jane, letting her experience up close where her expressions were lacking.
At that moment, Jane was like a newborn child, clueless about everything. If someone was willing to teach, she was more than willing to learn with a twelvefold effort.
If Jane’s mobile phone hadn’t suddenly rung, she thought, she and Shirley could have probably kept talking until boarding the plane.
"I’m sorry, Senior Young, it’s a call from my grandpa. I need to take it." Jane took out her phone, intending to dismiss the call, but when she saw it was from Grandpa Sampton, she couldn’t bear to ignore it and apologized to Shirley before answering.
"Grandpa." As soon as she answered the call, the tone of Jane’s voice softened involuntarily.
"Jane, are you busy?" Grandpa Sampton knew Jane was different now from before, so he was also worried that calling her at this time might interfere with her work.
"Not at all, I’m currently at the airport waiting to board." Jane responded, "Oh, by the way, before James returned to the guard team this morning, did he deliver the specialty souvenirs I brought back from Springtown to you and grandma?"
It was no wonder Jane asked this; she had woken up late that morning and by the time she got up, James had already left. She was worried he might have forgotten the stuff in his car trunk.
"He brought them, and he even stayed for a while at home, joining us for breakfast before going back," Grandpa Sampton said with a joy that he just couldn’t hide.
Early in the morning, when they heard a car in the doorway, Grandpa and Granny Sampton initially thought it was their granddaughter. But upon stepping outside, they were surprised to see James walking in with his hands full of stuff.
"I heard from James that he’ll be around on the weekends more often than before?" Grandpa Sampton asked with a chuckling smile, "Is that right?" 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"Yeah, he’s such a bother! Whenever I’m home, he comes back every single weekend! Always fussing over this and that!" Jane grumbled, using a whining tone she was accustomed to when speaking with her dearly beloved grandparents.
"You find him bothersome? But looking at your Moments, didn’t he also give you a lipstick as a gift? You seemed quite happy about it," Grandpa Sampton noted, laughing merrily.
"Yeah, I like the gift, but he is, you know, annoying," Jane replied hastily, yet her eyes full of laughter hardly conveyed any irritation.
She was just being stubborn.
"That won’t do. At least for the sake of the gift, you can’t find the person who gave it to you annoying," Grandpa Sampton teased Jane, and then said, "He mentioned you made him some handmade beef meatballs? I saw how happy he was when he told me that. By the way, when are you coming home next? When you do, you and James should both come visit us grandparents. Granny will slaughter a chicken to make you some nourishing soup, prepare something you love to eat."
