CEO's Reborn Wife-Chapter 414 - 422: Most Likely a Trick
The dainty jade hand poised above the trash can paused in its motion, then, pinching the box, slowly retracted.
"Take it back, you old rascal!" Jane Sampson huffed as she hurled a whole box at James Black’s chest.
Her so-called old rascal caught the stuff with ease, and, striding forward on his long legs, approached her. Jane turned her head and bolted.
James stopped in his tracks and stood there, watching Jane’s retreating figure, his lips curving into a smirk.
If you’ve got the nerve to yank a tiger’s whiskers, then have the nerve not to run away, huh.
For the entire afternoon, Jane holed up in the bedroom and didn’t come out again. James didn’t know whether to stay in the living room or in the study reading a book, and he didn’t go in to disturb her memorizing her lines.
By around four, Jane felt sleepy and just laid down on the bed to catch up on some sleep.
This nap lasted until 6 o’clock, and she only woke up when James called her. Even dinner was made by him.
Since Jane had made extra at noon, the leftover dishes were all stored in the refrigerator. What James prepared was simply reheating those and stir-frying a new dish of green vegetables.
Jane eyed the unappetizing green vegetables on the tabletop and glanced involuntarily at the expressionless James, murmuring, "You could’ve woken me up, you know."
"Are you sure?" There was a great deal of skepticism in James’s tone.
A person who’s a far cry from her formerly gentle self, and without showing the slightest bit of it. Could she be sure that being woken up when she was so tired wouldn’t result in her kicking him?
After all, it wasn’t like Jane hadn’t done that sort of thing before. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Jane silently sat on a chair, propping her hands on the table and watching James serve the meal. He might seem cold as if a thousand miles away, but when he actually took care of someone, he indeed became quite attentive.
"Eat more." James placed a bowl of rice in front of Jane and gently advised her.
In addition to knowing that Jane was not a morning person, James himself wanted her to rest more too. If she hadn’t been really tired, it was unlikely she would have stopped memorizing her script halfway through the afternoon to rest.
"Half a bowl!" Jane stood up, pushing half a bowl of rice into James’s bowl with her chopsticks.
Back then, when she wanted to do such a thing, she had to hesitate a long time before dropping the idea, but nowadays, she did it without a second thought, without any psychological pressure or need for self-persuasion.
James eyed Jane and said nothing. However, during the meal, the frequency with which he picked vegetables for her was quite high.
It happened so often that Jane, beginning to doubt, asked, "Have you forgotten my hand injury healed a long time ago?"
Otherwise, why keep putting food into her bowl?
Without answering, James did stop adding food to Jane’s bowl afterward.
After the meal, he even conscientiously got up to clean up the bowls and chopsticks, leaving Jane absolutely flabbergasted.
The more solicitous James became, the more Jane’s heart dangled perilously.
Out of character means demons at play.
This guy must be up to something!
Jane spent the whole evening on tenterhooks, worried that James would suddenly tell her that they were going to get up early tomorrow morning to climb a mountain.
From the initial insistence on eating more, to the constant serving of vegetables, and then taking the initiative to clean up, Jane felt that her speculation was very likely to be correct.
James was probably intending to ensure she was well-fed so she’d have the energy to accompany him on a mountain hike the next day.
