CEO's Reborn Wife-Chapter 388: Do you know what I like on the 396th?
"Okay," Jane Sampson agreed briskly, "I’ve got a morning to linger in the Bed and rest well, and with extra time, I can even pick up some Springtown’s traditional specialty souvenirs for my grandfather."
"Mm," James Black’s voice carried a smile, "Do you know what I like?"
"No idea," Jane responded with earnest, "But I don’t need to know, I wasn’t planning on buying you a gift."
There was a nearly imperceptible twitch at the corner of James’s mouth on the video, followed by a soft chuckle.
"It’s very late; time to rest," Jane waved at James through the lens with a giggle, "Remember my gift though!"
Honestly, throughout the week, Jane couldn’t stop thinking about it several times and often couldn’t resist wondering what exactly was the gift James mentioned he was getting for her.
After all, James had said with such certainty that she would like it.
"Depends on your performance," James raised his eyebrows and waited for Jane to end the video call before placing his mobile phone back.
But, the moment he lay in the Bed, his brain uncontrollably replayed the image of Jane’s grinning face on the mobile phone. The mere thought of her return the next day filled James’s heart with unaccountable excitement.
Indeed, finally knowing she was coming home honestly and had made a call to him before arriving seemed to suggest that his previous reminders had not been in vain.
For someone as crafty as Jane, this method of education was the most effective.
Since she didn’t have to think about work the next day, Jane slept very soundly that evening. She didn’t even set an alarm clock and woke up naturally, though it was just past 8 o’clock.
After washing up, Jane knocked on Elizabeth King’s room door—Elizabeth stayed right across from her. When she went over, Elizabeth was still asleep.
"I’ve booked our flight tickets for 2:30 in the afternoon, so we have the morning free. I plan to buy some local delicacies from around the hotel to take back. What about you? Do you want to join me?" Jane, worried Elizabeth might feel awkward declining, quickly added, "If you want to continue sleeping, that’s also fine. I can shop by myself." 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
"Specialty souvenirs?" Elizabeth rubbed her eyes, then said, "Mr. Carter’s assistant called me half an hour ago, saying Mr. Carter has prepared a specialty gift from Springtown for each of us to take home. They’re kept at the hotel reception to pick up when we check out."
"Mr. Carter is so thoughtful." Jane clasped her hands over her heart, genuinely surprised, having not expected that James Carter had prepared specialties for her and Elizabeth, especially since everyone had gone back so late last night, and it was still very early now.
Elizabeth expressed her agreement with an emphatic nod.
Frankly, Elizabeth was also surprised to be included; she was just Jane’s new assistant, and it would have seemed normal to her if Mr. Carter had prepared something only for Jane.
After spending these few days together, Elizabeth felt that Mr. Carter and Jane got along very well and had good rapport. Although Jane was currently focusing on acting, she had her own foundation and skills in music, and Mr. Carter was someone who could instill a lot of musical thought in her.
As for the choice Jane offered, Elizabeth quickly settled on sleeping in some more. Jane, on the other hand, grabbed her small backpack and, with mask, glasses, and hood in hand, set out for a solo stroll nearby.
