CEO's Reborn Wife-Chapter 37 - 45: Less than a Dog
From the moment she entered the home, Jane Sampson shrank behind James Black, hiding her head. She greeted the Old Master Black when she first saw him, and then remained silent, doing her best to minimize her presence. It was not until Brooke Black fell in behind Old Master Black and James Black and spoke to her that she replied with a couple of words.
As they entered the doorway, the lazy Akita lying there opened its eyes to glance at the group, ultimately focusing on Jane Sampson. After a brief look, it quickly stood up and rushed towards Jane, barking around her excitedly while wagging its tail furiously to show its excitement.
"Great General!" Jane Sampson immediately smiled with her eyes crinkled, bending down to rub the head of the Great General.
The Great General had been part of the Black Family for several years, raised by Old Master Black. Ever since the Great General arrived at the Black Family home, Jane had been tempted several times to sneak him back to her house, but she never had the courage to do so because of Old Master Black’s impressive clout.
The Great General circled around Jane a few times before running off straight to his dog house, disappearing from view. But once Jane sat down on the sofa with Brooke, the Great General came bounding out with his dog leash in his mouth, placed it into Jane’s hand, then cocked his head to look at her and barked twice towards the doorway.
"The Great General wants you to take it for a walk," Brooke Black said as she pressed down on the dog’s head. "The entire Black Family knows only you and Peter Gingery enjoy frolicking with it. Every time you two come back, it eagerly brings the leash to invite you for a walk."
Jane Sampson chuckled with a shy smile and involuntarily turned her eyes towards James, seeing that he was also looking at her, she blinked at him, asking if she could go out. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
However, James simply looked away, ignoring her completely. Jane’s lips twitched almost imperceptibly before she promptly put on the leash and whispered softly to Old Master Black, "Grandfather, may I take the Great General out to the courtyard for a bit?"
"Hmm," Old Master Black waved his hand, giving Jane permission to go, then glanced at James. The elderly man was not blind; he had seen the look exchanged between the couple just now.
Although she didn’t dare take the Great General out for a stroll outside, Jane was still very happy playing with him in the courtyard.
In her absence, Brooke started to chide James more directly.
"You’re always so reserved; just now, Jane asked you something, why didn’t you respond?" Brooke tapped James’ shoulder, somewhat exasperated. She had hoped that James’s aloof nature would change after he got married, but it seemed he was still the same.
Outside in the courtyard, Jane’s laughter and the Great General’s excited barks gradually became clear. Old Master Black looked out at the courtyard to see Jane playing with a ball she had found somewhere with the Great General. In just a short span, you could see sweat on Jane’s forehead, but her face was beaming with joy—a far more pleasing sight than her timidity when she had first walked through the door. Old Master Black turned back to face James’s impassive, stone-faced expression and suddenly felt that the good mood fostered by Jane’s smile had soured again.
He snorted heavily, "In the entire Black Family, including you as her husband, Jane loves the Great General the most! You, a living man, can’t compare to a dog. Tell me, do you still have the face to live in this world?"
