CEO's Reborn Wife-Chapter 29 - 37: You’re Not at Home
"Ah? You are..." Jane Sampson, who was holding the phone, was startled and quickly looked down at the incoming call on her mobile phone. Sure enough, it was James Black. She blurted out, "I am home!"
She had just finished her training for the afternoon, which involved intense physical and form training that was exhausting. Upon hearing her phone ringing from the cabinet, she had answered it without even looking to see who it was. To her surprise, she had picked up a call from James Black.
"Heh," James Black let out a cold laugh. "Jane Sampson, it’s not you who’s at home, it’s me who’s at home."
James Black slapped off the dust on the sofa and sat down, his voice as cold as shards of ice, "Jane Sampson, how long has it been since you came home?"
No sooner had he finished speaking, James Black added, "Don’t waste your energy lying. I can go check the record with the security guard."
Jane Sampson felt as if she had been struck by lightning, standing dumbfounded at the doorway of the training room.
Jame Black now likes to come home without any notice, favoring surprise visits?
He’s into sudden attacks now?
"I’ll come back and explain." Jane Sampson hung up the phone with a click, hurriedly washed her face, changed her clothes, and then drove the car that she had parked in the company’s parking lot for over a month straight home.
All the way, Jane Sampson was thinking about how to explain to James Black why she hadn’t come home for over a month. The road that used to be jammed with traffic was unusually clear today. Before Jane Sampson could figure out how to face James Black, her car was already downstairs of her home building.
Sitting inside the car, Jane Sampson scratched her head and sighed repeatedly, her face almost spelled out "baby is suffering inside."
Her mobile phone vibrated in her pocket. She took it out and saw it was a message from James Black.
——Be at the home doorway within five minutes.
"Damn!" Jane Sampson dared not dawdle any longer and quickly got out of the car and pressed the elevator button to go up. That guy must be watching her from upstairs as she drove into the underground parking lot of the residential community, right?
James Black had given her five minutes, but it took Jane Sampson seven minutes to reach home. The front door was ajar, and the light from inside shone out.
Peering around at the doorway, Jane Sampson took a look inside and saw James Black sitting in the living room smoking. She shivered her shoulders and then slowly shuffled through the door with her hesitant steps.
"Where have you been?" came James Black’s voice from ahead, revealing an unmistakable aura of authority. Jane Sampson stopped in front of the tea table and stole a glance at him, unexpectedly meeting his deep and unsettling gaze, caught red-handed.
"I can explain," Jane Sampson swallowed, "the day you came back I told you I was going to find a job, right? The company is a bit far from home and driving there could make me late because of traffic jams. Coincidentally, the company has staff dormitory arrangements, so I applied and moved in."
Jane Sampson felt that her explanation was perfect, and indeed, there was no deception; she truly was living in the company-provided staff dormitory.
Watching Jane Sampson’s earnest and sincere explanation, James Black scrutinized her for a long time, uncertain if she was telling the truth. He had witnessed Jane Sampson’s talent for lying and pretense before.
"Where do you work?" James Black finally asked.
"I’m working under Cousin Nina Rice, preparing to follow Sister Tin later," Jane Sampson replied with a gentle and warm smile, certain that James Black wouldn’t remember Sister Tin, much less know what Rock Bell did for a living!
"Related to art?" James Black didn’t quite remember Rock Bell’s occupation, but he felt the name was familiar, likely having met it before.
"Yes," Jane Sampson nodded.
Acting is also an art! No one can dispute that.
James Black may not have much understanding of art, but that doesn’t mean he opposes it. Seeing that Jane Sampson had found a job she liked in such a short time, he didn’t ask further.
He could see the genuine happiness on Jane Sampson’s face when she talked about her job. She truly liked her current work.
"Why didn’t you answer Peter Gingery’s calls?" James Black asked, and immediately corrected himself, "Why didn’t you answer the calls?"
