Chapter 285: Chapter 293: I’m Not Deaf

The two were so close, her back almost pressing against his chest, even with the noise of the hairdryer working, she could still hear every word she shouted at James Black.

It was just that, seeing she was calling out in play, James Black pretended not to hear, therefore he didn’t respond.

But if it hadn’t been for James Black pretending not to hear, he thought, he probably wouldn’t have heard Jane Sampson’s next words.

Thinking he couldn’t hear her, she asked a question she hadn’t planned to get an answer for from him.

From that very first sentence outside the convenience store, "Can you not push me away so forcefully from now on?" to this question she quietly asked, they both gave James Black an inexplicable shiver in his heart.

This shudder, accompanied by piercing pain, was indescribable and irresistible.

It seemed like it would penetrate deep into his bones, never leaving.

James Black turned off the hairdryer, then turned the chair and Jane Sampson sitting on it around, facing her towards him.

"What are you doing~" Jane Sampson gasped, her left hand tightly clutching his arm as she gradually lifted her head, looking at James Black with a face full of alarm, "Are you a human merry-go-round or what?"

James Black’s broad palm pressed down on her head, the top of her hair that had been blow-dried was much drier and lay flatter than the ends.

"Jane Sampson," James Black suddenly spoke, asking, "Does the ’forever’ you spoke of mean a lifetime?"

His question felt like each word was magnified, crashing down on Jane Sampson’s forehead like a series of loud gongs. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

She was stunned, even utterly shocked.

"You...you heard what I said just now?" Jane Sampson stammered.

"I’m not deaf," James Black replied.

"Then why didn’t you respond to me at first?" Jane Sampson pouted in protest, "You’re cheating!"

"If I had responded, how could I have heard what you said later?" James Black laughed softly, "Do you hope I’ll be nice to you for a lifetime?"

Jane Sampson’s left hand was holding onto the edge of the chair, her head bowed, not daring to look at James Black’s face. She kicked around by James Black’s feet and wanted to retort that she indeed did not wish for that, but when she opened her mouth, no sound came out.

"Weren’t you always wanting to divorce?" James Black asked, "And now you don’t want to? You want me to be nice to you?"

"Not at all! Absolutely not!" Jane Sampson touched her nose with her left hand, her voice low, "If you’re willing to divorce, I can still divorce you."

James Black’s face darkened, and he scoffed, "In your dreams."

Jane Sampson pulled a face, mumbling to herself, the same line again, like an unchanged script!

However, Jane Sampson’s mood became inexplicably joyful.

She tried hard to suppress the smile at the corners of her mouth, but in the end, she couldn’t hide the mirth tugging at her lips, so much so that later when James Black called her, she ended up laughing softly under her breath.

"Very happy?" James Black looked puzzled at the suddenly giggling Jane Sampson, "What’s so funny?"

"None of your business what I’m laughing at." Jane Sampson patted the arm holding the hairdryer, "Hurry up and blow-dry my hair, I need to go to sleep after it’s done! I’m dying of sleepiness!"

"Are all women like you?" James Black asked.

"What’s wrong with me?" Jane Sampson shook her head, then pointed at the bed, "Where did you put my rabbit? Why isn’t it in the bedroom anymore?"

"Lost it," James Black replied, quick and clean.
