Chapter 281: Chapter 289: Investigation

After discussing the matter of the lipstick with Nina for a solid half an hour, Jane Sampson felt she had digested it enough to finally leisurely make her way to the bathroom to wash her hair and take a bath.

James Black finished tidying up the entire home, drenched in sweat. By the time he entered the bedroom, Jane was already in the bathroom.

James didn’t rush to take a shower in the living room’s bathroom. Instead, he sat in the room for a while, took out his mobile phone, sent a friend request to Jane’s WhatsApp, and then started looking for Jane’s mobile phone.

After searching around, he eventually found her mobile phone under the pillow. After retrieving her mobile phone, James quickly accepted his own friend request, then just as swiftly put Jane’s phone back in its original place.

While waiting for Jane to finish, James browsed through Moments on his phone. His previously empty Moments quickly came to life, and he discovered that Jane had posted a new status just ten minutes earlier.

James read the new status word by word, then his gaze landed on that post in Moments, and his eyebrows furrowed.

She wants this lipstick?

James stared at the words written there.

So beautiful, I really want it.

James couldn’t see where exactly this lipstick was beautiful, and moreover, he didn’t think that an item worth merely 350,000 would make Jane Sampson feel the word "poverty."

James was unaware of exactly how much assets Jane had, but even without her asking him, he believed Jane could afford it.

After all, with the support of the Black Family in recent years, the Sampton Family’s company had been performing well, and Jane had shares in the company and had been receiving dividends yearly. 350,000 wouldn’t seem like much to Jane.

Unless she had some large financial expenditure recently.

James thought about it, then took his phone to the study and made a call to have someone check Jane’s account balance; even though it was very late, the person on the other end of the call still respectfully worked overtime to provide James with an answer.

The outcome was that this month, Jane had several large sums of money transferred to an account belonging to Nina.

Her account had less than 50,000 in liquid cash, but there seemed to be no recent changes in her other financial investments or immovable property assets.

James didn’t know why there were such large amounts of money being transferred to Nina from Jane’s account, but since it was Jane’s own affair, he wouldn’t inquire further unless she spoke about it herself.

After all, it was Jane’s own issue and her own money, and she had the right to handle it as she saw fit.

And James also trusted Nina.

Nonetheless, this evidence seemed to confirm the sentiment of Jane’s WhatsApp post, "poverty."

James thought that, for the short term, his wife really was poor.

With that in mind, James made another late-night phone call to Alexander Forest.

Late at night, Alexander’s end sounded busy, as if he were in a pub with a lot of background noise.

"Hold on a second; I’ll find a quieter spot," Alexander said over the phone, and after he moved to an unoccupied private room next door, he greeted, "What do you need?"

Alexander’s question came with a certainty because James wasn’t the kind of person to call someone for a chat without reason, and his call to Alexander certainly wasn’t to invite him out for drinks.

So, it must be about something important.

"There’s a lipstick from JK worth about 350,000 with 199 diamonds on the case, you know about it, right?" James asked.
