Chapter 213: Chapter 221: So What If It Is

James Black sighed helplessly in his heart but didn’t continue to reprimand her. Instead, he asked her, "Why didn’t you call emergency services last night when you felt so unwell? Before we hung up, what did I tell you?"

"I wanted to hold on a bit longer, endure it. I thought maybe it would get better after a while. Daniel Taylor said that taking medicine and getting some sleep would help a lot," Jane Sampson said. "If I had called emergency services, it would have woken up Daniel and the rest of the crew. Everyone had their own work to do today, especially the director. I didn’t want to disrupt their rest because of me."

"Didn’t he tell you that some people actually die from acute high altitude disease on trips?" James Black pressed with a lowered voice.

Jane’s eyes blinked, and she pursed her lips, saying nothing.

She knew, actually, but at that time her mind kept telling her to hold on. She believed she could make it, not expecting to pass out, but then James appeared.

Jane Sampson glanced up stealthily at James, whose complexion wasn’t too good. To be honest, before this, she hadn’t imagined he would suddenly appear before her, that he would rescue her from that small hotel room that seemed to be swallowing her whole.

Even when she was talking to him on the phone last night and those words "I miss you" slipped out, it was just because she was so vulnerable and couldn’t control the longing for the sense of security he provided.

And even then, Jane didn’t dare to hope that James would come, not even allowing herself to whimsically ask him to.

She was used to taking care of herself, used to hugging herself, and used to dealing with any sudden situation alone. She’d always thought she could only rely on herself.

"James, what time is it?" Jane yawned repeatedly while talking. Her eyes swept over James’s phone, and she reached out to press it.

She intended to check the time, but what she saw first was her own unflattering, hard-to-look-at silly-face photo.

"You..." Jane pulled the quilt over her head, "Why haven’t you changed that photo yet!"

"It’s fine as it is, why change it?" James casually tucked his phone into his pocket, seeing Jane loathe her own photo so much, he wouldn’t be surprised if at some point she decides to change his phone’s screensaver herself.

"It’s not ugly," James seriously clarified.

At least, James himself didn’t think that photo was unattractive. On the contrary, he found it quite endearing.

Her face making funny gestures, so different from the usual Jane, the photo captured an image of her resembling her childhood self—loving to jump about and play, a face full of smiles. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

"Your taste is questionable!" The photo is clearly unattractive, yet he seriously justifies it as not being ugly. And at home, that cute little rabbit Kris, and yet he always refers to it as ugly rabbit!

"Yes, so what?" James scoffed, not deigning to justify further.

In any case, he didn’t believe there was any serious flaw in his taste.

"It’s still early, just a little past eight in the morning," James deftly shifted the conversation, wisely avoiding further discussion with Jane on the topics of aesthetics and whether the photo was ugly.

"It’s this bright out and only a little past eight? Then I’m going to sleep some more. We’ll talk about everything else after I wake up," Jane could say that it was only after she got on the helicopter that she fainted. She had woken up too early just now; she had only really been asleep for a few short hours.
