Chapter 1959: Chapter 1967: Greedy Monkey

Or rather, it’s like walking on a pile of cotton thousands of miles high, feeling anxious and uneasy.

She was very nervous.

For the first time in her life, Jane Sampson experienced how this emotion of nervousness could tightly grip one’s heart, as if refusing to let them breathe.

She was terrified, truly terrified, that the blood relation she sought for two lifetimes would ultimately not withstand over twenty years of companionship.

Thankfully.

Jane Sampson looked at every member of the Carter Family, her eyes slightly red.

Thankfully, she won the gamble.

Every member of the Carter Family cared about her, just as she cared about them.

No one in the Carter Family betrayed her years of searching.

Nor did they disappoint the time she endured quietly for them.

Most importantly, they did not betray her concern for them.

Jillian Carter had already pushed Joseph Shaw away and ran out of the Carter family, crying all the way, but only Joseph Shaw chased after her.

After Jillian Carter’s voice was no longer audible, Jane Sampson turned around, her back to everyone, and secretly raised her hand to wipe away the tears about to spill from her eyes.

Rock Bell reached out and hugged Jane Sampson, knowing she had been tense just now and understanding what she was afraid of.

Fortunately, what she feared did not happen.

The past, all of Jane Sampson’s misfortunes, seemed just a process.

A process of waiting for James Black, waiting for the Carter Family.

And James Black and the Carter Family marked the end of all her misfortunes, the period at the end of her sentence.

"I’m okay." Jane Sampson gently shook her head at Rock Bell’s worried gaze.

Granny Carter walked over to Jane Sampson, took her hand, and said somewhat choked up, "Good child, this is your home, and we are your family."

Jane Sampson’s action of turning away to wipe her tears signified something, something that Granny Carter, who had lived most of her life, couldn’t possibly misunderstand, so she felt sorry for Jane, this granddaughter.

She came, prepared for the worst, ready to give up on the Carter Family.

Granny Carter also knew that for Jane Sampson, this decision was very difficult, because Jane had once worked hard to stand tall and be the focus of the crowd to reclaim this family.

The efforts she made to return to this home, in her mind, became tragic and laughable behaviors when she made the decision. "Since you’re home, let’s have a meal together." James Carter stepped forward, gently placing his palm on Jane Sampson’s shoulder, "I remember the first time you came, I personally cooked for you, and you were so full. Later, I’ll go to the kitchen again and make a few dishes you like."

"James Black isn’t here now, if I eat too much, there’s no one to rub my belly," Jane Sampson muttered, but quickly looped her arm around James Carter’s and rapidly rattled off a list of dishes, "Is there red-braised fish? If not, corn ribs will do! It was the first time I learned that corn can be braised with ribs in soy sauce!"

"But this season, there might not be corn, switching to potatoes is fine too!" Once Jane Sampson started talking about food, she wouldn’t stop, "The dumplings here are also delicious, next time, I want dumplings! The kind with dried bamboo shoots in the stuffing."

With that, Jane Sampson turned to Rock Bell and said, "Sister Tin, if I hadn’t told you, you’d never guess that dumpling filling could be like this! Cabbage, Chinese chives, carrot, pork, plus dried bamboo shoot, one bite is so delicious it makes you want to scream."
