Chapter 1473: Chapter 1481: Bitter from a Young Age

"Mom? Do you think I need to beg Jane Sampson?" Julie Sampton sounded as though she’d just heard the most absurd joke in the world.

"She’s the foster daughter of the Sampton Family. She ate from our house, lived in our house, and now it’s time for her to repay the Sampton Family. She has no reason and no right to refuse."

"But..." Mother Sampton was just about to say something on Jane’s behalf, but Julie interrupted her directly.

"Mom, I wasn’t by your side when I was little. Back then, I never asked you for anything. So, this time, I’m begging you." As Julie spoke, her eyes turned red. She lowered her head and stroked her belly. "Mom, the child in my belly is also your granddaughter. Could you bear to watch my child be born without a father and be ridiculed as a bastard?"

Tears rolled down Julie’s face, drop by drop, piercing Mother Sampton’s heart. Everything she had wanted to say in defense of Jane was forgotten in an instant.

"Mom, I wasn’t there with you and Dad when I was young. Every day of my childhood was filled with hardship. But I don’t want my child to be born and live through the same bitterness I endured. Mom, please... feel pity, even if it’s just for your unborn granddaughter. Help me talk to Dad and Grandpa and Grandma, and talk to Jane too."

Julie held Mother Sampson tightly. "Mom, if I can’t marry David Chip while pregnant with his child, my life will be ruined. If it comes to that, I’d rather die. I’d rather die with my child."

"Luna, don’t keep saying things about dying. Are you trying to break my heart?" Mother Sampson hugged her daughter tightly, her heart aching as she thought about how it was her fault for not watching over her biological daughter properly when she was younger.

If her daughter had grown up under her care from the start, perhaps she and her husband could have guided her well enough that she wouldn’t have made such foolish choices.

Meanwhile, James Black and Jane Sampson, who were watching a movie, had no idea that they were already part of Julie’s schemes. After the movie ended, rather than finding something else to do, James drove Jane straight back to their home.

It had already been two months since James last came back here. Although the housekeeper cleaned the house regularly, everything was still spotless.

Before, it wasn’t unusual for James to go three to five months without returning home. But nowadays, even just two months away made him miss every corner of their home intensely.

Jane yawned repeatedly. As soon as she entered the house, she lazily slumped onto the sofa. With the heating on inside, she was so comfortable that she couldn’t even muster the energy to take off her coat.

James put away their things, glanced at her, and then walked over to pull her off the sofa and help her take off her coat.

"I’ll go run some water for you. Take a bath and get some rest." James said.

"Mmm..." Jane’s mouth opened and closed, letting out a noise that sounded somewhere between agreement and reluctance.

But before James could finish running the bath, Jane had already fallen asleep on the sofa.

They left the cinema close to midnight, and by the time James drove them home, it was nearly one o’clock.

So by the time James finished running the bath and came back out, Jane was already deeply asleep, so much so that she didn’t even stir when he picked her up from the sofa.

At this moment, her trust and reliance on James were fully on display.

Knowing he was home allowed her to sleep soundly, without a single worry about any dangers lurking nearby.
