Chapter 138: Chapter 146: Not a Sign of Support

If Rock Bell were asked about his mood right now, it would probably be best described as a song of nervousness, his heart fluttering erratically.

In these past few days, Jane Sampson’s popularity on Twitter had soared, so naturally, Rock Bell began waiting for a phone call and notification from the Sampton Family and the Black Family.

However, somewhat unexpectedly, it was James Black who came looking for him, having come down from the base personally to call on Rock Bell at his company.

"James Black." Upon seeing him, Rock Bell first sized up his expression, trying to gauge what kind of mood James was in.

Unfortunately, James had always been one to never wear his emotions on his face. Even though Rock Bell stared intently, he couldn’t discern what James was thinking.

"You are here for Jane, correct?" Rock Bell smiled tentatively, asking, "Shall we go up to my office to talk?"

"Yes," James responded with a nod, signifying his agreement.

Rock Bell immediately led him to the elevator; the fact James was willing to go up meant there was still room for discussion and negotiation.

Rock Bell’s office was spacious and well-lit, bathed in the glow of the 4 o’clock sunshine on the tabletop. Once inside, Rock Bell first pulled the sunshade down, "Have a seat."

James didn’t refuse and sat down directly on the leather sofa next to him. The tall and imposing figure took a seat, exuding an overwhelming aura, causing even Rock Bell to involuntarily tense up.

Without any small talk, once Rock Bell sat opposite him and prepared to brew tea for him, James immediately declined, "No need to fuss, let’s get straight to the point." His fingertips tapped on the table as he began to speak, "I assume I’m not mistaken in believing you are Jane’s agent?"

Previously, Jane Sampson had said she worked with Nina Rice’s cousin. That day on the express train, James hadn’t recalled what Rock Bell’s job was. It wasn’t until he saw the news today that he remembered meeting Rock Bell before, who had mentioned being an artist agent. Seeing Rock Bell nod, James continued, "I don’t interfere with Jane doing what she wants, I have already spoken to her about the future, but I thought it was necessary to come and talk to you personally."

Rock Bell paused in his tea-brewing actions, feeling somewhat suppressed, "You don’t oppose Jane being an actor? What about the Sampton Family? And Old Master Black?"

"Jane is my wife; my approval is all that is needed," James said calmly, "The Sampton Family doesn’t have the nerve to trip Jane up behind her back. If it’s about Old Sir, you can directly call me, and I’ll take care of it."

"Sure," Rock Bell suddenly smiled, pleased with the answer that was unexpected, and yet somehow not so unexpected.

Considering how Jane Sampson had caused such a fuss in the car that day, and James showed no signs of anger, Rock Bell had sensed then that James wasn’t as indifferent towards his wife Jane as he seemed on the surface.

James, despite being old-fashioned and exceedingly proper, did possess a quality many husbands struggled to match, and that was his profound respect for his wife.

"I wouldn’t want to see kissing scenes, bed scenes in her scripts; for those, either use position substitution or a stand-in. For any business or public welfare activities she participates in, I dislike seeing her in revealing dress. I have my boundaries, and Jane is well aware of them, so regarding her attire, you should listen to her," James stated.

After saying that, James simply watched Rock Bell quietly and, after a few seconds of silence, asked, "Can you handle it?"
