CEO's Contract Obsession-Chapter 279: For The Baby’s Future
Amy made her way to her old room, conveniently situated across from the master bedroom. Once inside, she locked the door behind her and collapsed onto the bed, hugging her favorite pillow tightly.
Overwhelmed by a surge of emotions, Amy found herself inexplicably on the verge of tears, and she allowed them to flow freely. Exhausted and feeling unwell, she experienced discomfort in her lower back and abdomen that are starting to hurt, intensifying her longing for the baby she desired so deeply.
Despite their hopeful expectations, Amy’s disappointment was profound upon learning of the unsuccessful attempt at conceiving. The timing seemed particularly cruel, as she and Henry had eagerly prepared themselves to start a family. Amy speculated that the stress she endured from the recent kidnapping incident and the challenges of launching new branches might have played a role in their setback.
The realization weighed heavily on Amy’s heart, causing her tears to flow even more fervently. She admitted to herself that she had neglected to take proper care of herself, a fact that now haunted her.
After experiencing the pain of a previous miscarriage, she had promised herself to be more diligent and cautious in the future, ensuring she wouldn’t endure such a loss again. Yet, now she couldn’t even conceive a child because she had failed to be attentive to what she should have done.
Realizing there was nothing she could change about the situation at present, Amy understood that her best course of action was to gather her strength and try again. She acknowledged that it was preferable to the heartbreak of another loss. Determined to exercise greater care and mindfulness, she resolved to be more vigilant during their next attempt.
However, despite accepting these facts, her profound fatigue prevented her from ceasing her tears. Recognizing the need to release these negative emotions, she allowed herself to cry wholeheartedly, affirming that this would be the final instance she shed tears over negative circumstances while striving to conceive.
As Amy continued to pour out her emotions, her heartfelt sobs echoed throughout the room. Unbeknownst to her, Henry pressed his ear against the door, attentively listening to every tearful cry until the sound gradually subsided. He remained standing there, patient and concerned, until silence enveloped the room, assuming that Amy had eventually drifted off into slumber.
With a sour mood, Henry descended the stairs and headed towards the workers’ lounge, with an intention in mind. However, upon arriving, he was greeted with disappointment as the individuals he was looking for were absent from the room.
"Where are they?" Henry inquired of Charles, whom he happened to encounter while strolling through the kitchen.
"W-Who are you looking for, sir?" Charles stammered, taken aback by Henry’s tone of voice. Perplexed, he struggled to discern whether Henry was angry, sad, or simply annoyed. But why and to whom? He asked himself.
"Ava and her team," Henry responded curtly, conveying his impatience and urgency.
"Ms. Lopez went home, but Mitch and Dave are with Rei and Ms. Walker in the back patio," Charles informed Henry, providing the whereabouts of the individuals he sought. Sensing Henry’s need, Charles further offered, "Should I call them for you, sir?"
"No need," Henry responded tersely, swiftly turning around and making his way toward the back patio, determined to find Mitch and Dave without further delay.
Upon his arrival, Henry’s ears caught the sound of laughter emanating from the back patio. Intrigued, he chose to quietly eavesdrop for a moment, wanting to gauge the atmosphere and the nature of their conversation before revealing his presence.
As Henry listened in, he caught Sandra’s voice expressing her hopes for the baby’s appearance. "If it’s a girl, I hope she looks like Henry because Amy already looks like her mom. I want something different this time," Sandra’s words reached his ears, and her comment made the corner of his lips curve up.
Rei’s voice chimed in, questioning Sandra’s preferences. "So, if it’s a boy, you want him to look like Amy?" Rei asked, prompting Sandra’s hum of agreement.
Dave’s voice joined the conversation with his own aspirations. "Regardless of the baby’s gender, I hope they assign me as the guard and driver once he or she starts going to school," Dave expressed, sharing his desire to fulfill a protective role in the child’s life.
Mitch’s voice interjected with surprise at Dave’s revelation. "I didn’t know you liked kids. That’s a surprise," Mitch remarked.
"I don’t particularly like kids, but one thing is for sure: I will definitely love Amy’s baby," Dave declared, his protective instincts evident. He further added, "I’ll kick away anyone who tries to bully her kids in school. They’ll have to face Uncle Dave if that happens," eliciting laughter from the group, and from Henry as well.
Mitch, joining in the lighthearted banter, shared his intentions for the baby’s future. "If it’s a girl, I’ll make sure no boys come near her until she turns thirty. I’ll buy her cute dresses and fix her hair every day. And if it’s a boy, I’ll ensure no girl takes advantage of him, or else I’ll pull those girls’ hair," Mitch playfully declared, eliciting even more laughter from the group.
Sandra, amused by their strict yet endearing roles, exclaimed, "Oh boy, Uncle Dave and Auntie Mitch are stricter than the actual aunties! Haha!"
As Henry listened to the excitement and joy shared among the group, his anger gradually melted away. He realized that his frustration was misdirected, as it was his own assumption that led to disappointment. Ava, Mitch, and Dave had merely reported their observations as instructed, without confirming anything to him.
Reflecting on their conversation, he felt a sense of gratitude and happiness. Even though they had faced a setback in their attempts to conceive, he took comfort in the knowledge that his future children would be surrounded by loving and caring people.
These trusted friends would be there to support his wife and their children, even in difficult times. Henry found relief in knowing that, should the need arise, his loved ones would have a strong support system to lean on, regardless of what the future held.
