CEO's Contract Obsession-Chapter 244: Potential Connections (1)
Anton was the one in the investigation room when the police called in to inform them that Kevin had turned himself in and the same room was in chaos when Rei, Ava, and Henry arrived at Welsh Holdings’ Building.
"This is impossible, even if we suspect that he has a role in all of this, I don’t believe that he is the one who ordered Alex to kidnap Amy and more so paid the engineer to sabotage the plane," Rei expressed his disbelief upon hearing the report from the investigation team.
"You are correct, the amount paid to the engineer is quite hefty, he can’t simply afford it. What did Ash say about the money trace?" Anton said.
"Ash showed me the report of their investigation this morning. It’s a dead end. It was deposited via a machine and not over the counter or online so we can’t trace it. The camera from that machine itself shows an old woman depositing the money but when they questioned her it appears that she was just paid by someone to deposit the money into that machine," Henry said.
"Sir, the police are here. Should I let them in?" They heard Toby call in the intercom. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
"Send them in, let’s hear what they have to say," Henry replied to his secretary.
Rei, Anton, and the two police officers promptly took their seats upon entering Henry’s office. After exchanging handshakes with Henry, he gestured for them to be seated.
"What do you have for us Detective Johnson?" Henry started off, leaning forward in his chair.
"We’ve already checked the dash cams of the cars surrounding the getaway vehicle before you even had the chance," Detective Johnson informed Henry. "Fortunately, those cars are still present, and we discovered that some are owned by employees, while two are owned by guests."
"In the footage, we observed Ms. Josephine Hart handing over a small pouch to Mr. Alex Monroe," Detective Johnson continued. "Upon examination, we confirmed that the pouch contained cash, a key to the location where they were planning to keep Mrs. Welsh after the kidnapping, and a burner phone. We arrested Ms. Hart last night, but she denies any knowledge of the contents of the pouch, claiming she didn’t know what was inside.
Ms. Hart provided an explanation, stating that she and Mr. Kevin Murray are involved in a romantic relationship. According to her, Mr. Murray had left the pouch in her apartment and instructed her to bring it to the parking lot that day, where she was supposed to hand it over to a man she believed to be associated with Mr. Murray, namely Alex Monroe.
She insisted that she did not know Alex Monroe personally and assumed he was working for Mr. Murray, which is why she didn’t question his identity or the contents of the pouch," Detective Johnson said.
Detective Johnson’s information caused the three men to furrow their brows, as it seemed contradictory to what Kevin and Josephine had discussed in the car. The conversation strongly suggested that Josephine was the one in direct contact with the man named Alex, rather than Kevin. This revelation added to the suspicion surrounding Josephine’s involvement in the matter.
Rei, Anton, and Henry exchanged meaningful glances as they listened to Detective Johnson’s revelations. Each piece of information shared by the detective was not surprising to them, as they were already aware of the details through their own investigations. However, there was one aspect that caught their attention—the interview with Alex and Josephine, which they had not yet conducted.
"So, Detective Johnson, what will happen next now that you have apprehended all three masterminds and the other three suspects?" Henry inquired, his voice tinged with curiosity and anticipation.
"We have five individuals in custody, Mr. Welsh. We had to release Ms. Hart," Detective Johnson explained. "Mr. Murray has confessed to orchestrating the entire operation. He admitted to hiring Alex and his accomplices, and also claimed that Ms. Hart’s statement is accurate and that she has nothing to do with the crime."
Henry maintained his composure, aware that the illegally obtained recording could not be submitted as evidence. He understood the legal implications surrounding its use in the case.
"Forward Ash and Vanessa’s findings to our lawyers Rei," Henry orders as soon as the police took off.
"What did they find?" Anton asked.
"Vanessa, like me, has recollections of Alex," Henry explained to Anton. "However, the details are hazy. She recalls a situation where we were together and Alex approached us, seemingly in need of help because someone was sick. Unfortunately, neither of us can remember the specifics of who was sick or when this incident took place."
"To explore any potential connections," Henry continued, "Vanessa suggested that I review my past relationships and see if Alex has any ties to them. Rei is already working on that. Additionally, I asked Rei to investigate any previous canceled investment deals that may involve individuals who fell ill or have any association with Alex and Kevin."
"Indeed, Henry, it does feel like we’re getting closer to uncovering the truth," Anton remarked optimistically.
However, Henry quickly burst his bubble and reminded him, "Not so fast, Anton. We shouldn’t overlook the fact that the money trail remains unresolved. It’s possible that these three individuals are merely pawns in a larger scheme, orchestrated by someone with more influence. I can’t shake the feeling that there’s a higher power backing them, with the intention of causing harm to both me and Amy."
"You’re right, Bro," Anton agreed. "Let’s leave Rei and Ava to handle the ongoing investigation, as we have other pressing matters to attend to."
Henry turned his attention to the topic at hand. "While we wait for the remaining test results, you should go ahead and make a decision on which drilling machine to use for extracting the crude oil. We need to inform Theo as soon as possible so that he can proceed with ordering it and begin clearing the site. At the same time, we can start working on the design of the necessary infrastructure for the project."
"Ok, do that. I will just go to Amy first before we meet Theo then. I’ll meet you in the car," Henry said before making his way to Amy’s office.
