CEO's Contract Obsession-Chapter 194: An Unfinished Novel
After breakfast, Mary swiftly excused herself from the dining area, saying that she had left her bag in Anton’s room. While her claim had a hint of truth, her underlying motive was far more significant. She saw it as a perfect chance to corner Anton to confront him about Roana.
Mary sat on the sofa in Anton’s room and occupied herself with checking her emails while patiently waiting for Anton. She didn’t have to wait for long for Anton sensed her irritation during breakfast and followed her.
"So... What’s the deal with you and Roana? Care to enlighten me?" Mary sarcastically quipped, her words dripping with a touch of playful sarcasm as soon as he entered the room.
Anton pressed his lips together, suppressing a smile that threatened to surface, knowing that it would only add to Mary’s current state of irritation. He couldn’t help but be amused by how she is acting right now.
As he think about her question, a mischievous thought crossed his mind. "Are you perhaps... jealous?" He then pinched himself to stifle the laughter that is about to burst out.
Mary let out a scoff, squinting sarcastically at him in response, "Me? Jealous? Ha! You bet! Of course, I am!" She raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms defiantly, signaling that she was eagerly awaiting his reply.
Anton couldn’t help but smirk, feeling a mix of amusement and affection toward Mary. He moved closer, intending to embrace her in an attempt to diffuse the tension. However, Mary resisted his advance, stepping backward and declining his embrace. Definitely a clear sign of her lingering frustration that needed a serious conversation.
"Do not touch me. Do you realize how disrespectful it was for you to remain silent while your girlfriend sat beside you and you allowed another woman to serve you? Explain or I will walk out... alone. And if that happens, you and I are over!" Mary’s words resonated with unwavering firmness, causing a tinge of apprehension to ripple through Anton.
Her display of confidence struck a chord and her words settled upon him, Anton realized the gravity of his actions making him extremely aware of the potential consequences.
He had been aware of Roana’s intentions all along and had purposely feigned apathy to observe Mary’s reaction. But now, he noted that his attempt to test her had backfired, leading to her anger.
"Okay, okay. I am sorry, Mary," Anton uttered with a touch of remorse in his voice.
"I must admit, I enjoyed your jealousy. But let me assure you, I have no feelings for her whatsoever, not even a hint of attraction," he continued, reaching out to gently place his hands on her arms in an effort to reassure her.
"So, what’s the story between you two? She seems so at ease around you, including her parents. I want to know everything before I make a decision about whether to stay or not," Mary asserted, her tone demanding and resolute.
She made it clear that she required full disclosure before she could determine the future of their relationship. And she hated herself for doing it again.
A sense of frustration and disappointment settled over Mary, as she recognized the pattern of behavior that had unfolded in the past. Her tendency to retreat at the slightest sign of trouble had become all too familiar.
Anton blamed himself for Mary’s reaction, acknowledging that his actions had played a significant role in triggering her response. Consumed by a sense of remorse, he reached out, carefully taking her hand signaling her to sit beside him, "Please, let me share our story with you. But promise me that you will keep an open mind after I tell you everything."
"I do have an open mind, but I cannot overlook betrayal," Mary replied.
She acknowledged that while she was willing to listen, her past played a huge part in her life today making it difficult to fully trust and accept someone.
"Don’t worry, there’s no betrayal on my part," Anton said confidently, aiming to dispel any doubts and showing her that his intentions were genuine and trustworthy.
"Alright, I’m listening."
"Our moms grew up together, and so are we. She fell in love with me and we were engaged to be married at one point. It was an arranged marriage between two close families.
I didn’t mind at that time since I don’t really care about having a family. I never had feelings for her but I did bed her multiple times," Mary’s jaw dropped at Anton’s revelation but she did not interrupt him and let him continue.
"Our parents were ok with it since we are about to get married anyways. The deal was to let me finish school first before the wedding. But I met Henry and became a workaholic because I wanted to learn more from him and of course, I want to earn a lot of money.
Both families agreed to postpone the wedding as I build my career, thinking that it will benefit everyone in the future. I stopped bedding Roana for I only come to her to have s*x with her, no feelings attached.
We moved here when Henry took over the company and Roana demanded to come with us. I refused and tried to end the engagement. Imagine the chaos it brought to both families.
Then she pretended she was pregnant, but Rei and Henry helped me investigate it. It appears she was telling the truth, but fortunately, it was not mine. It was impossible to be mine from the start since I always use protection."
"What? She tried to cage you in a marriage and with a baby that’s not yours?" Mary can’t believe what she is hearing. Who would have thought that Anton’s life is like a teledrama that she is watching?
"Yes, she did that, so as you know the marriage didn’t happen and his parents did not blame me for breaking the arrangement since she got pregnant even before I backed out," Anton explained.
"So, where’s the baby now?" Mary can’t help but ask. She was so intrigued and curious that she wanted to know more.
"With the father. She got married to the man but later got divorced. And that’s why our families were still on good terms. Her parents acknowledge that it was their daughter’s fault and my family forgave her since they know that I don’t have any feelings for her."
"Wow... I don’t know what to say, Anton. Your life story is just like a novel," Mary uttered in amusement. Her annoyance and irritation were completely gone.
"An unfinished novel... Would you like to help me finish with you in it?" Anton exclaimed, a playful smile gracing his face as he stare into Mary’s eyes, his expression carrying a hint of mischief.
