CEO, Your Wife Has Left-Chapter 71: A Glimpse of Spring
With her eyes red, Reina West stared hatefully at Kenneth Yates. "You liar! How could you marry that plain woman with no family background? You’re a liar!" With a tear-stricken face, Reina West ran out. She had considered every possibility, but she’d never imagined that Kenneth Yates’s wife was actually Summer Lancaster. ’Just you wait, Summer Lancaster. I’ll repay the pain you’ve caused me tenfold.’
Kenneth Yates walked to the floor-to-ceiling window and lit a cigarette. ’A woman like Reina West shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near Summer Lancaster.’
Everyone spent the morning busy with guests and the venue. The trade fair was scheduled to start at seven in the evening, so they should have had plenty of time. But at this critical moment, their director, Reina West, was suddenly suspended. Work instantly descended into chaos, and they were short-staffed.
Taking advantage of the lunch break, Summer Lancaster decided to find Kenneth Yates to talk about Reina West. It really wasn’t necessary to fire her over this. If he did, Summer Lancaster herself would become the subject of gossip.
The secretary stood up and stopped her. "Director Lancaster, President Yates is having lunch. Perhaps you could come back in a little while."
"It’s fine. He won’t blame me." Summer Lancaster smiled faintly and entered the president’s office without knocking.
The secretary broke out in a cold sweat. ’If President Yates gets furious after she goes in, I’m going to lose my job. But I’ve heard rumors before that Director Lancaster and the president have a special relationship. It looks like it’s true. Could it really be *that* kind of relationship?’ The secretary shook her head. ’Probably not. I just saw that Summer Lancaster is wearing a ring on her ring finger. She must be married. Wait, does the president have a thing for married women...?’
"President Yates..." Summer Lancaster walked in. He wasn’t eating; he was working. The takeout that had been delivered was still sitting untouched on the dining table.
Seeing it was Summer Lancaster, Kenneth Yates put down his work and said with mock seriousness, "Director Lancaster, what can I do for you?"
Summer Lancaster didn’t say a word. She stormed right up to him and grabbed his tie. Kenneth Yates’s eyes widened in surprise. ’Have I been spoiling this woman too much lately? How dare she be so insubordinate.’
"You have the nerve to ask me what’s wrong? Firing Reina West is one thing, but why now of all times? All her work has been dumped on me, and I’ve been running around all morning with my head spinning. I’m about to pass out."
Kenneth Yates glanced down at her clothes. Her chest was practically spilling out of her top.
"Summer Lancaster, are you trying to seduce me?"
"Huh?" Surprised, Summer Lancaster looked down at her clothes. ’Oh no, I’m having a wardrobe malfunction...!’
She hastily backed away, pulling at her clothes. "Kenneth Yates, you pervert!"
"I wouldn’t dare call myself a pervert. Compared to you, I’m nothing." Kenneth Yates straightened his wrinkled tie and suit jacket.
"You..." Summer Lancaster was speechless. She huffed and sat down on the sofa. ’He’s getting better and better at turning things back on me.’
"I came to ask you about Reina West, not to bicker with you."
"She hurt my wife. The fact that I haven’t completely ruined her in Aeston is me being polite," Kenneth Yates declared, possessively staking his claim.
Summer Lancaster’s expression soured. ’Couldn’t you at least have waited until after today to fire her?’
"Heh, your wife must be so happy then!" Summer Lancaster said with a smile, but her expression looked worse than if she were crying.
"I think so too." Kenneth Yates braced his hands on either side of the sofa, trapping Summer Lancaster between them.
Summer Lancaster panicked when she saw the way he was staring at her. ’How does this man have so much stamina? After everything we did last night, he still seems full of energy today.’
Summer Lancaster spoke cautiously, "President, don’t you have work to do? If you’re not busy, I need to get back to it." She tried to slip out through the gap between his arms, but he tightened his embrace and pulled her into a hug.
