Chapter 99: Release Announcement

I thought about writing some kind of emotional post, but it didn’t seem necessary. You can all just read the update. However, some readers might not know the novel is going premium, so I decided to write a quick note after all.

Today’s update will be after 12 PM. It might be a few minutes late.

I’m not going to get all sentimental. You guys read for enjoyment, and I don’t think it’s necessary to weigh things down with a lot of emotional baggage. Besides, I’m hopelessly bad at that stuff anyway.

While I’m here, I’d like to address a perceived contradiction from the last two Chapters. A reader DMed me, saying that Shan Xiong suddenly attacking Chen Chuan just because a woman he supposedly loved smiled at Chen Chuan was a bit of a turn-off. They asked, "Are people really that idiotic? And by that logic, since she’s a receptionist, shouldn’t Shan Xiong beat someone up every single time she smiles at a person?"

Yes, people that idiotic really do exist. I only wrote this scene because I’ve actually met someone like that in real life. However, many readers have misunderstood something. I couldn’t really explain it earlier, but now that the plot has progressed, I can.

The truth is, Shan Xiong doesn’t even know Zhen Ping (the second-year girl who greeted Chen Chuan).

As you continue reading, you’ll find out that male and female students at Wuyi train separately. The male and female Class B students don’t have much contact in their daily lives, so he doesn’t even know Zhen Ping’s name. They’ve met maybe once, and he certainly doesn’t "like" her.

So why did Shan Xiong attack Chen Chuan?

It’s because he’s a Class B student. His training is incredibly repressive, but he can’t take his frustrations out on anyone else. So, he needed an outlet, someone to bully. I already foreshadowed during the enrollment scenes that Chen Chuan was the only applicant who had never trained before. All the others had previous experience.

Zhen Ping could tell at a glance, and so could Shan Xiong. That’s why he locked onto Chen Chuan. The whole "Zhen Ping smiled at him, not me" thing was just a random excuse he fabricated. He just wanted to beat someone up and vent his frustration. Chen Chuan looked like a clueless novice, and isn’t someone like that the perfect target for a bully?

Of course, the readers who are still here probably don’t care about this. Anyone who couldn’t accept it likely dropped the novel long ago. I might be explaining this for nothing, but I still felt I should. Some of you might still find it to be an off-putting plot point, and well, I can accept that. In the end, whether you enjoy a book is a matter of personal taste; it’s completely up to the individual. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
