Celestial Human Diagram-Chapter 135 - 122: Chaos
The Wuyi Students were stunned to see Director Liu and the councilman get shot. Their first reaction was to find the gunman’s position or seek cover.
With their attention focused on the attack, they were completely blindsided when the Maka Students suddenly charged outward. They couldn’t fathom their actions. Although they had their suspicions, without a clear understanding of the situation, most chose to simply get out of the way.
The moment the shot rang out, Chen Chuan spun around to locate the gunman. At that same instant, however, a figure blurred, and Qiu Chengzu, who was standing nearby, ferociously charged at him.
Chen Chuan simply raised a hand to block. Before Qiu Chengzu even knew what was happening, he was sent stumbling backward, a voice remarking in his ear, "This isn’t the time for sparring."
The venue’s security team sprang into action. Their first instinct wasn’t to intercept the Maka People, but to move forward and protect the councilman and the other officials from the Administrative Affairs Hall.
Without explicit orders, the Maka People were still considered honored guests. Even with their suspicions, the guards wouldn’t overstep their authority, which allowed the group to break through with ease.
However, everything happened so quickly and at such a distance that the crowd of onlookers in the back still hadn’t grasped the situation. They remained packed together, inadvertently forming a human barricade.
Just then, another volley of gunshots erupted from the rear. Several people were hit and collapsed. The crowd finally reacted, erupting in shrieks of terror and scattering in a panic. Combined with the smoke spreading everywhere, the scene descended into utter chaos.
Chen Chuan’s gaze sharpened. He looked toward the source of the shots and saw a man in sunglasses firing a gun. Behind him stood several other stone-faced individuals. Farther on, several motorcycles were parked. Duma was clearly heading right for them.
He brushed aside another charging Maka Student and strode toward them.
Nearby, Zhuang Zhi saw Chen Chuan give chase, and a glint appeared in his eyes. With a sharp, forceful maneuver, he unceremoniously knocked two approaching Maka Students to the ground and followed suit.
Chen Chuan started at a brisk walk, but his pace steadily quickened. Within a breath or two, he had caught up to the rear of the fleeing Maka group. When some of them turned to stop him, a casual flick of his hand sent them stumbling aside, as if he were merely swatting away a few flies.
Nali and Shani had been flanking Duma, clearing a path for him. Nali, at least, showed some restraint, but Shani ruthlessly shoved aside anyone in his way, completely indifferent to whether they could withstand the impact.
Seeing that the students at the rear were completely unable to stop Chen Chuan, they immediately turned back to intercept him.
The hot-tempered Shani charged ahead first. Using his momentum to build up power, he let out a snort and launched a kick straight at Chen Chuan’s face.
Chen Chuan met the kick with a casual punch. The impact shattered Shani’s leg, and the immense force sent him flying backward to land in a heap on the side of the road.
Nali’s heart went cold at the sight. ’I’m no match for this guy!’ Disregarding his own safety, he threw his entire body forward in a tackle, desperately trying to stop him.
Chen Chuan’s expression remained placid; he had no intention of engaging him. With a sideways step, he abruptly accelerated, brushing past Nali in an instant and shooting forward like an arrow released from a bow.
Nali’s momentum carried him a dozen more steps before he could stop. Just then, he saw two more Wuyi Students race past him. Panicked, he quickly turned to give chase.
Even as Duma ran, he kept an eye on the situation behind him. He couldn’t help but frown, seeing that Nali and Shani had failed to slow Chen Chuan in the slightest. He was also puzzled. ’He knew there was a skill gap between the Maka Students and the Wuyi Students, but it shouldn’t be this massive, should it?’
He didn’t dare turn his back on such a foe, so he skidded to a halt, spun around, and prepared to face him.
However, the attack he anticipated never came. Chen Chuan didn’t even spare him a glance as he sped past, his eyes fixed on the gunman who had opened fire earlier.
Duma froze for a second. He had no intention of helping the gunmen and was about to move on when a figure blurred behind him. Zhuang Zhi had caught up. Tapping his foot lightly on the ground, he launched himself into a flying knee strike aimed right for Duma.
Duma shook his head. He took half a step forward to sidestep the direct impact, then met Zhuang Zhi’s knee with his shoulder and arm. Zhuang Zhi instantly felt as though he’d slammed into a thick, unyielding cable.
Before Zhuang Zhi could follow up, the muscles on Duma’s shoulder, back, and arm tensed abruptly, like a bowstring drawn taut and then released in an instant. An irresistible force surged through him, flinging him backward. He rolled several times upon landing before he managed to stabilize himself.
Though largely unharmed, he shot Duma a look filled with lingering fear, realizing the gap between them was far too great. The thought of retreating began to form in his mind when he suddenly sensed danger. He rolled forward, dodging a powerful gust of wind from behind. It was Nali, who was now attacking him for having gone after Duma.
Zhuang Zhi was already back on his feet. Seeing his attacker was Nali, he sneered. ’So I can’t beat Duma. You think I can’t handle *you*?’
By now, Chen Chuan was nearly upon the gunman. The man hastily raised his pistol to aim, but Chen Chuan’s movements were too fast. His footwork was a blur, shifting left and right, and the gunman’s wavering muzzle couldn’t find an opportunity to fire. Before he knew it, Chen Chuan was on him.
Gritting his teeth, the gunman hastily pulled the trigger. But Chen Chuan ducked forward, simultaneously striking upward at the man’s elbow. CRACK! The gunman’s arms were broken and thrown upward, sending the pistol flying into the air. At the same time, Chen Chuan drove his shoulder forward. THUD! The gunman was sent flying backward into a middle-aged man who was just then walking up from behind.
The middle-aged man had a steady gait and a sharp gaze. He reached out and, with a quick touch and press, absorbed the force from the gunman’s body, lowering him to the ground with one hand. Then, cracking his neck, he strode coldly toward Chen Chuan.
But Chen Chuan simply reached out and caught the pistol as it fell. He instantly raised the muzzle. The middle-aged man’s cool demeanor shattered as he frantically ducked to the side.
Chen Chuan, however, shifted his aim and fired several shots at a nearby building, sending brick fragments flying. The person crouched on the roof aiming a rifle at him immediately ducked for cover.
Seeing Chen Chuan’s aim shift, the middle-aged man seized the opportunity and charged. As he drew near, he launched a kick aimed at Chen Chuan’s head. But Chen Chuan ignored it. His fingers opened, dropping the pistol, and he pivoted to throw a punch straight down the man’s center line.
Seeing that Chen Chuan was seemingly willing to trade blows, the man’s brow furrowed. He slammed his raised foot down—THUD!—and simultaneously twisted at the waist, letting out a sharp kiai as he threw his own punch to meet Chen Chuan’s.
BANG! Their fists met with the sound of two steel hammers colliding. In that same instant, the pavement beneath their feet spiderwebbed with cracks.
They remained frozen in their punching stance for a moment. Then, a deep flush spread across the middle-aged man’s face, followed by a sickening series of snaps from all over his body. He slumped to the ground like a boneless heap. Chen Chuan’s punch had shattered most of the bones in his body.
Just then, Chen Chuan’s eyes caught a flicker of movement. He tilted his head just as something zipped past his cheek. THWACK! A nearby tree trunk splintered, a fresh bullet hole appearing in the bark.
He moved quickly, bullets raining down from above, kicking up gravel from the road and shredding the leaves of nearby trees.
On a rooftop overlooking the street, the sniper fired a few more shots before suddenly sensing a powerful gust of wind from behind. He tried to turn his rifle, but a hand clamped down on the top of his head. With a deft twist—SNAP!—his head was wrenched to the side.
Luo Kaiyuan shoved the man’s head, pushing the corpse aside. He smoothly took the rifle from the dead man’s hands, expertly raised it, and aimed at the street below.
But then a thought seemed to strike him. After a moment’s hesitation, he brought his knee up, snapping the rifle in two and tossing it aside. Then, with a hand on the ledge, he vaulted sideways and leaped directly from the four-story building. He grabbed onto an outcropping to break his fall slightly, rolling as he landed to dissipate the momentum. He then got to his feet and charged forward.
Meanwhile, while evading the sniper, Chen Chuan snatched up the pistol he had dropped. He fired several shots toward the men by the motorcycles, forcing them to scatter for cover.
Duma had been running toward the vehicles, but seeing the riders scatter, he was forced to stop. He didn’t know how to ride a motorcycle. The moment he paused, however, a figure charged him from behind, letting out a sharp cry as they threw a punch.
Duma recognized the clear cry as the voice of a young woman, likely one of the female students. He couldn’t help but shake his head as he dodged the punch, grabbed her slender wrist, and slammed her toward the ground. BANG! The pavement shattered from the impact.
He had assumed that blow would be enough to take the female student out of the fight, but she seemed completely unscathed. Without a moment’s pause, she wrapped her legs around him. Surprised, he flung his arm out, tossing her a great distance.
The female student landed on the side of the road, rolled several times, then planted a hand on the ground and flipped back to her feet. Aside from some scuffs and dust on her clothes, she looked completely unharmed.
Chen Chuan glanced over, recognizing her as Guan Xinyin. He saw things very clearly. Whether against Zhuang Zhi or Guan Xinyin, Duma hadn’t used lethal force. Otherwise, both of them would now be dead or crippled. ’He’s probably being cautious because of the relations between our two countries.’
’If he had only taken the Oak Leaf, I might not have given chase without knowing the full story. But these Maka People are colluding with an unknown faction, and they’ve killed and injured innocent bystanders in the process. That requires an explanation. They can’t be allowed to just get away.’
He looked at Duma and said, "Teacher Duma, you’re not getting away."
Duma, however, shook his head. He tossed the box containing the Oak Leaf to a nearby student, signaling for him to go on ahead. Then he ripped off his shirt, revealing a powerful, bronze-colored physique with sleek, well-defined muscles. "I remember you took my Karma Vein Study class," he said in a low voice. "Well then, let me teach you the next lesson right here."
