Cave Refuge-Chapter 330 - 299: Yielding Wealth but Not the Way_2
Watching Dong Tianyu’s figure gradually walking away, Madeline’s expression calmed down. Although what Dong Tianyu said was quite straightforward and didn’t take her dignity into account at all.
But Madeline was no fool and knew why Dong Tianyu would say such things.
After seeing Dong Tianyu leave, Madeline felt some conflict within her, but in the end, she made up her mind about something.
On the way back, Dong Tianyu passed the now lush Nameless Mountain. However, since the cave he once lived in had collapsed, there was nothing on the mountain that Dong Tianyu felt nostalgic about.
When Dong Tianyu saw the numerous overturned vehicles between the tall and sturdy trees ahead, he knew he had reached the area near the Moon Bay Survivor Camp.
Dong Tianyu remembered that when they left, they had handed over the management of this place to the Patrol Office, and now it should be under the administration of the Patrol Office.
Some time had passed since the emergence of the giant trees, and normally, the survivors at the Moon Bay Camp should have almost finished tidying up the place and would have come out to put the overturned vehicles upright.
Furthermore, Dong Tianyu knew that many survivors lived within the camp, but quite a few of them still kept their baggage and supplies stored in their vehicles, so they could flee at any moment in case of danger.
Looking around at the eerily quiet surroundings, Dong Tianyu frowned. This environment didn’t seem like it was around a survivor camp but rather like walking in an uninhabited area.
He then spread out his Divine Sense to check on the situation inside the Moon Bay Camp.
But to his surprise, when Dong Tianyu unleashed his Divine Sense, he did not see a single survivor in the camp. What was once a bustling Survivor Camp had now become desolate and lifeless.
"Could it be..."
A disturbing thought suddenly flashed through Dong Tianyu’s mind. Using his Divine Sense, he carefully inspected every corner of the camp and saw that on the tables inside many tents, there were bowls and plates with food that had rotted away.
However, there were signs of frantic searching inside the tents, indicating that the survivors who lived in these tents had encountered something while eating and, in their panic, searched the tent for valuables and fled without finishing their meal.
Aside from this tent, Dong Tianyu found similar traces in other tents. It seemed they had suddenly encountered something, and then left the camp in a rush and panic.
Whether the survivors had managed to escape from the camp successfully was unknown, but judging from the desperate traces they left behind and the abandonment of their precious vehicles, it seemed that they must have encountered something extremely dangerous.
If the food inside the tents had rotted naturally, then judging from the degree of decay, some time must have passed. And since the giant trees had not appeared at that time, they didn’t run towards the vehicles but, instead, in another direction. The reason behind that decision was self-evident.
The danger must have spread from where the vehicles were parked toward the camp. Otherwise, the survivors inside wouldn’t have fled in the cars, since for ordinary people, two legs can hardly outrun four wheels.
Originally, Dong Tianyu guessed that the culprit that attacked the camp might be the bugs from the Bug Nest, but upon seeing the bowls filled with food that had rotted long ago in the tents,
Dong Tianyu realized that the fall of the camp was most likely not related to the bugs from the Bug Nest. After all, based on his knowledge of those bugs, if they had attacked the camp, they would have devoured the food in the bowls completely, maybe even the bowls themselves, leaving nothing intact until now.
Besides the bugs, what else could have appeared in Pengcheng and attacked the camp?
Dong Tianyu could rule out the possibility of other survivors attacking the camp. If that were the case, the doors of the vehicles in the convoy would have been forced open long ago, and those robbers surely wouldn’t have forsaken such valuables.
Since the traces left behind indicated that only the camp had been attacked, while the vehicles remained unscathed, Zachary could ascertain that the attackers were not other survivors but monsters.
After contemplating for a long time without coming up with an answer, Zachary absolutely refused to wait foolishly on the spot. Instead, he used his Divine Sense to search for valuables the camp’s survivors might have left behind when they fled.
The Art of Controlling Objects is not as convenient as telekinesis. Telekinesis allows for immediate control of any person or object within the range of one’s mental power, as long as their strength doesn’t surpass his own.
To control objects at will using the Art of Controlling Objects, one must cultivate the art to a very advanced level, because it is necessary to leave a mark on the corresponding object in advance to manipulate it.
Only by fully mastering the Art of Controlling Objects could one leave marks on targets using Divine Sense without having to be near them.
The not-so-cultivated Zachary finally understood why Yang’s family elder would get somewhat angry when he heard his nephew say "almost" and, without sparing his nephew’s dignity in public, directly lectured him.
It could be that the survivors took their possessions with them when they left. In any case, within the vast camp, the amount of goods Zachary managed to collect was even less than that found in the vehicles under the trees.
Zachary glanced at the overturned vehicles without much concern. After sorting and sending the goods inside into his Storage Space, he dispatched these vehicles directly to the Cave for disassembly.
Upon seeing the transport aircraft coming from Pengcheng, the ground-use-only second-hand cars no longer caught Zachary’s eye. After keeping one car in good condition that could still be used, he directly disassembled the surplus vehicles.
To avoid embarrassment if recognized by others, Zachary made a few minor changes to the car’s exterior. He didn’t use Survival Points but gave the entire car a new coat of paint.
Although the car was ready, he couldn’t give it to his parents today. After all, with gigantic trees blocking the way everywhere, if Zachary said he drove the car back himself, not only would others find it hard to believe, even Zachary himself would be skeptical.
As Zachary was approaching the camp near Saxon County, he was stopped by a member of the patrolling special forces team. However, when the patrol team member recognized that it was Zachary, he smiled and greeted him.
Since the patrol team member was on duty, Zachary didn’t engage in much small talk. After a brief conversation, the member continued patrolling while Zachary hurried back to the camp.
The camp was very quiet and peaceful at the moment, after all, Saxon County was different from Pengcheng. There were no stealthy Bugs Clan attacking survivors. Giant Scorpions were large, so they would be spotted by the survivors long before they got close to the camp.
The Martial Artists of the Inner Breath Realm, previously brought back by Robinson William, had now fully recovered, so the camp’s security had been significantly bolstered.
Moreover, because of the previous Giant Scorpion attack, many special forces members overcame the cultivation bottlenecks they had been stuck at during their life-or-death battles, presenting them with the opportunity to advance to the Inner Breath Realm.
Thanks to the relentless efforts of these special forces members and the continuous supply of dried Giant Scorpion meat, the camp now had several new Martial Artists of the Inner Breath Realm.
The camp’s security had leveled up several notches compared to when Zachary left.
It was already the afternoon, and the camp had begun to light fires for cooking. In comparison to the empty atmosphere of the Moon Bay Survivor Camp, this camp was filled with the bustling warmth of life.
Saxon County Camp also had many towering trees, and the ground previously covered with scorpion shells had disappeared.
Unlike Madeline’s discussion about whether to cut down the trees to flatten the camp, Zachary saw the tree hollows that the survivors had created on the trunks of the massive trees.
