Cave Refuge-Chapter 233 - 231: Wish Come True_1
After hearing what Brother Dong had said, Mace didn’t hesitate, swiftly unscrewing the bottle cap and taking a big gulp. After belching conveniently, he carefully tightened the cap back.
Without the least bit of embarrassment, he said to Dong Tianyu, "My kid is three years old now, but he’s never even tasted a soft drink before. I can’t bear to drink the rest of it, so I’m saving it to take home for him to try."
Dong Tianyu initially wanted to generously give him a few more bottles, but then realised, considering the expiry dates on the packaging of these drinks, they would actually be expired products. Nobody else knew that time was frozen in the Shadow Space.
So he didn’t bring up the subject of the drinks any further, instead, he said, "The milking cow that I bought from you the last time is doing well. Whenever it starts to yield milk, I’ll bring some over for you to try."
Despite knowing that Dong Tianyu was sweetening him up, Mace expressed his immense gratitude and said, "That’s something I’d appreciate very much."
Mace understood why Dong Tianyu had made that offer. Though he knew there was slim chance of this pledge being fulfilled, it was Dong Tianyu’s good intentions that counted after all.
Although he couldn’t violate regulations, he could still provide some conveniences for Dong Tianyu within the bounds of his authority.
Even if Dong Tianyu hadn’t made the offer, Mace would still assist him. However, after having heard what he said, Mace felt more willingly obliged to do so.
"Brother Dong, what did you come here to buy this time?"
"Do you have any top-grade canaries left? I want to buy a few more. Besides the livestock I bought last time, do you have any other valuables or rarities? Speaking of which, did that panda you mentioned the other time give birth?"
When Mace heard Dong Tianyu asking for so many things, although his face was still all smiles, inwardly he was tremendously excited. If he could complete this transaction flawlessly, the commission he’d get would be substantial.
Fortunately, Mace was prepared when he came over and was carrying a tablet that contained the goods catalogue.
"Brother Dong, you can just park your car over there. Now that the weather outdoors is back to normal, we’ve also moved out from the mountainside."
Following Mace’s cue, Dong Tianyu parked his black car next to the group of buildings, then took the tablet Mace handed over from his hand.
With his previous purchasing experience, Dong Tianyu was now pretty adept at using the device.
Seeing Dong Tianyu browsing through the supplies exchange page, Mace guessed that he was trying to determine the value of the items he’d brought with him.
So, he started to answer the questions Dong Tianyu had asked earlier, "The canaries you saw the last time you came have already been sold. Now, we only have two new top-grade canaries.
As you are a regular customer, I won’t keep anything from you. You’re probably already aware of the current situation. With the two remaining canaries we have left, their overall capabilities most definitely will not meet the previous standards.
But at this point, the promotion standards have gone down significantly. I can only assure you that they perform better than the high-grade canaries used to.
Previously, a canary had to meet all the standards across the board to be classified as a top-grade canary. But now, as long as a canary meets set standards in one area, and high-grade standards in other respects, it would be tagged a top-grade canary."
Upon hearing Mace’s candid admission, Dong Tianyu was somewhat surprised. After all, Peach Blossom Paradise sold canaries of all grades, but they had never revealed their internal evaluation standards.
So, customers could only make choices based on the grades of canaries that Peach Blossom Paradise made public. The majority didn’t know which aspects Peach Blossom Paradise considered when scoring and giving a specific evaluation of canaries.
Dong Tianyu’s tablet was still flipping through the fundamental supplies page, never once checking the detailed information about the canaries.
"In addition to top-grade canaries, did you also receive new stock of the other grades?"
Seeing that Dong Tianyu didn’t immediately check the canary information on the tablet, Mace felt more confident that this business deal was definitely going to proceed. Hearing Dong Tianyu’s inquiry, Mace hurriedly responded.
"There’s a small replenishment for every grade. As you know, it’s difficult to cultivate new canaries at this point in time. The batch of canaries we have now were all meticulously bred prior to the catastrophe.
In terms of appearance and certain abilities (like music, chess, calligraphy, painting, cooking, tea-making, etc.), they’ve all reached a certain level. It’s just that the previously appealing skills may have become somewhat irrelevant now.
I heard that they are training the recently recruited little girls in new skills, and martial arts are included as well.
To comment candidly, if the conditions on your side are good, I would recommend not picking top-grade canaries- high-grade ones would suffice.
I won’t keep anything from you. In reality, several high-grade canaries have mastered top-tier skills. According to the current evaluation criteria, they should also be classified as top-grade. The only problem is that the skills they’ve mastered include tea ceremonies, floral art or confectionery – all deemed irrelevant in present times.
These skills were quite popular back then. But you probably understand the situation well— it’s a pity they can’t use their skills fruitfully these days. Hence, when it’s time for their level to be evaluated, they can only garner a high-grade rating."
Once Mace finished talking, Dong Tianyu simply nodded, not providing a concrete response. The interface on the tablet was still switching nonstop on the basic supplies exchange page. For a moment, Mace wasn’t sure if Dong Tianyu had even heard what he’d been saying.
When Mace found himself at a loss, unsure of what to say next, without lifting his head, Dong Tianyu simply said softly, "Thank you for your heads up. I got it. Let’s revisit the canary matter later; let’s talk about the panda first."
Hearing Dong Tianyu say that, Mace immediately became somewhat excited and answered in a credited tone, "Our panda hadn’t given birth yet, but a few days ago, a friend of my boss stopped by from the neighbouring province and brought quite a few cubs, both male and female.
Initially, my boss didn’t want to accept them, but remembering you expressed interest in them the last time you visited, he decided to keep them on my strong recommendation. They are all cubs but already weaned.
Every single day, I would go and check on them, ensuring all of them are healthy."
Upon hearing Mace’s words, Dong Tianyu’s eyes lit up. He put the tablet in his hand down and asked Mace with great curiosity, "How many cubs are there?"
"Seven in total, but only two males and two females are left for sale. The rest were reserved a few days ago."
Hearing Mace’s words, Dong Tianyu regretted that he arrived a little late. But then again, having four of them wasn’t too bad either. He quickly said to Mace, "I’ll take all four of them."
Hearing Dong Tianyu say so, Mace advised him to immediately reserve the pandas on the tablet to prevent someone else from grabbing them first.
